What’s inside… By the time you read this leaflet, someone in the UK will be having a seizure. Around 456,000 people in the UK have epilepsy, affecting everyone from babies and children to people later on in life. Together with your support we can help people with epilepsy continue to live as normal a life as possible. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could live in a society where attitudes towards epilepsy are based on fact not fiction? You can help to make this happen. The services for people with epilepsy have improved from 60 years ago, but there are still lots to do. You can help change the future by making it a better one.

Different ways to donate Not everyone has the time to organise there own event or the energy to run a marathon. But there are things you can do in your everyday life to help make a difference.

Lose weight and donate!! Cut out those calories, by skipping a cappuccino. Did you know that on average there are 175 calories in your morning cappuccino, and I won’t even mention what that adds up to when you order a blueberry muffin as well. Next time you’re tempted to grab a cuppa think about what you could do with the money instead. The average cost for a cappuccino is £2.29*, if you had one coffee a day for a month
it would cost you a whopping £46, and a total of 3500 calories. Payroll giving is an easy and tax free way of donating on a regular basis to support people with epilepsy. You can choose the amount you want to donate which is taken from your salary (before any tax is deducted). Increase your donation Maybe you have recently donated to Epilepsy Action but didn’t gift aid your donation. You can instantly increase this at no extra cost.  Gift Aid allows charities to reclaim the basic rate of tax on donations received from UK taxpayers. Gift Aid is a great way of maximising the value of donations at no extra cost to you and with minimal administration for us. It is an extremely effective way to fundraise. As long as you are a taxpayer, all you have to do is give a simple Gift Aid declaration. A single
Gift Aid declaration can cover any number of donations from that you, applying to future donations and to donations received over the past four years. You can work out the amount of tax you can reclaim by dividing the amount donated by four. This means that for every £1 donated, you can claim an extra 25 pence.
