Welcome to Gillispie’s Enrichment Program, 10 weeks of after-school learning and fun. Here’s the fine print:

● No refunds will be issued after the second class!

● All fees will be invoiced during the next billing cycle;

● Classes are first-come, first-served. Registration will continue until each class is full;

Gillispie Enrichment Offerings Spring 2023

Art & Yoga Fun with Mrs. Sarah & Ms. Katy LIttles, Middles & PK, Tuesdays, 3:30-4:30, GYM, $300

In this playful class, Mrs. Sarah will guide children through a creative yoga experience, combining yoga poses with stories, art, and music. They will also explore breathing and relaxation techniques. In this non-competitive and fun environment, young students will work on developing strength, flexibility, balance, concentration, and self-confidence.

Board Games, Puzzles & Activities with Ms. Tamayo Grade 2-3, Mondays, 3:30-4:30, Library, $300 (limited to 10 students)

This enrichment will be intentional in its approach to playing games, understanding directions, building self-esteem and confidence, and teamwork skills. There will be a variety of interesting board games, puzzles, and activities like scavenger hunts all depending on their interests. There will also be rewards/incentives for those who win and participate as their best selves. Join us for some fun and focused learning!

Builders Club with Ms. Leard Grades PK-1, Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30, K Cottage, $300

In this club, we will build! Students will have a building challenge each week using a variety of different materials. We will work with legos, magnatiles, cardboard, blocks, and more. Who can build the tallest tower? Who can build the most intricate Lego house? Who can build the sturdiest bridge using recyclable materials? Can you make a structure with toothpicks and marshmallows? We will build individually and together as a team. Our goal is to get creative and have fun! We will take pictures of what we make so that students can share their creations!

Chess with Mountain Lake Chess

Grades K-5 (divided class), Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30, $250

International Master Larry Evans and staff have been teaching chess for over 30 years in more than 60 schools throughout San Diego County. Their program has produced national champions at every scholastic level. Chess is a great workout for mathematical muscles. Students learn to think ahead, solve problems, evaluate multiple alternatives, and anticipate consequences. Chess improves spatial reasoning, visual memory, attention span, logical reasoning power, and self-confidence. The program, dubbed "The Evans Method" by the United States Chess Federation, includes instruction, formal and casual play, and team events on a giant, Harry Potter-like, chess set. Students receive prizes at the end of each class to reward participation and every student receives a trophy at the end of each session. Beginners are welcome.

Clay Workshop Spring Edition with Ms. Walters

Grades K-5, Tuesdays, 3:30-4:30, Art Bungalow, $325 (10 student limit)

Grades 1-5, Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30, Art Bungalow, $325 (10 student limit)

All new projects! This spring we will create many ceramic pieces for the garden. In this clay class, each child works on ceramic projects at their own level of expertise with individual instruction. We’ll be making useful objects as well as imaginative sculptures and constructions. The students will also learn about ceramic works of art from other cultures and periods of history Come and join in the fun of playing and creating with dirt and water (aka clay)! All supplies included.

Clay Club with Ms. Boisnard

Middles & PK, Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30, Juniper Classroom, $300

In Clay Club, young children will have the opportunity to explore and work with one of our favorite natural materials - clay! We will learn about the various tools ceramic artists use and different techniques to make amazing pieces the children will get to keep. We will create hand-building pieces such as pinch pots, bird nests, coil pots, and more. Finally, children will learn about both the firing and glazing process and how potters use the kiln to create all sorts of beautiful objects we see in our everyday life.

Fairy Tales Around the World with Ms. Sunny PK & K, Mondays, 3:30-4:30, Rosewood, $240 (limited to 9 students)

What do you get when you combine fairy tales with arts and crafts? Happy and fun creators! Ms. Sunny will be sharing some of the best arts and crafts from around the world for students to keep them learning and exploring with a fairy tale-styled education! We will learn and explore fairy tale stories and create fun arts and crafts projects from South America, North America, Europe, Africa, Australia, and Asia. On the last day, Monday, May 15 at 4:00 pm, we will have the Mad Hat Tea Party and you are invited! If your kids have any food allergies, please let us know. We also will provide snacks that come from all over the world every session. No class on Monday, March 6 & 13.

Flavors Around the World-Spring Menu Edition ~ A Culinary Workshop with Mrs. Knight PK & K, Mondays, 3:30-4.30, Willow Classroom, $300 (limited to 8 students)

In this class, children will have the opportunity to prepare dishes from around the world and to learn about the different, unique countries that each dish represents. We will taste the cuisines of South American, European, and Asian countries. Please join us as we learn many different cooking techniques, taste exciting new foods, and explore the many wonderful cultures that are represented within our community!

Fun on the Field! with Ms. Hurley

Grades K-5, Fridays, 3:30-4:30, Field, $250

This FUN class will teach students about popular Gillispie field games and give them the confidence they need to join in on the action at recess. Activities may include dodgeball, capture the flag, crazy tag games, relay races, hockey, kickball, obstacle courses, wiffle ball, soccer, and more! Emphasis will be placed on sportsmanship and playground etiquette. The best way to learn how to play a game is to PLAY IT! Lace up your running shoes and get in on the action!

Garden Club and Spring Crafts with Ms. Leard

Grades PK-2, Tuesdays 3:30-4:30, K Cottage, $300

In this club, students will paint, plant, and go on nature walks. We will learn about flowers and plants and how to best take care of them, tend to planter boxes around campus, decorate garden rocks, learn about composting, study insects, and create fairy gardens. We will plant on campus as well as bring home plants of our own. We will also make a special spring craft each week. We cannot wait to explore our campus and learn about all nature has to offer

Legos and Loose Parts with Mrs. Knight

PK & 2, Tuesdays, 3:30-4:30, Willow Classroom $300 (limited to 8 students)

In this class, children will have the opportunity to draw their ideas in their BIG IDEA books and then use various loose parts to build and design a 3D model of their creations.

Matilda Musical Performance class with Ms. Fillers

Grades 1-5, Mondays, 3:30-4:30, Theater, $250

It’s a book, it’s a musical, it’s a movie of the musical! Welcome to the world of Matilda and experience the courage and hope of this extraordinary child who finds clever ways to prevail against cruelty. Develop empathy and acting skills to bring memorable characters to life, build confidence, and work as a team to create a fun show on the last day of class. The First Day of the class will be Monday, March 13. Performance date - Monday, May 15, 4:00-4:30

Music and Movement with Mrs, Pavlik and Mrs, Gonzalez Littles, Middles & PK, Mondays, 3:30-4:30, GYM, $300 (limited to 12 students)

The children will experience music from around the world and incorporate ways to play musical instruments and act out lyrics through movements. We will be incorporating many different ways to move and explore movements with materials such as scarves, parachutes, and tumbling mats that will allow the children to use their imagination to play with music and movement.

Nature Art & Gardening with Dr. Mindy Littles & Middles, Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30, $300 (limited 8 students)

Join this exploration of nature through art and gardening! Inspired by the colors and textures from nature around us, we will use natural materials to create unique art explorations. Leaf printmaking, painting like rain, and collage sculptures will be among the curious experiences we will have together. We will also be planting and tending to gardens around campus as part of our experiential inspiration. Students will take home a few exploratory works of art throughout our time together.

Ninja Camp with Ms. Sunny PK & K, Tuesdays, 3:30-4:30, Rosewood Classroom, $240 (limited to 8 students)

Your ninja’s day at Ninja Camp will be filled with fun activities, skill-building, cooking, and Ninja snacks. During the 8 weeks, we will learn how to cook like a Ninja, dress up like a ninja (We make a Ninja T-shirt with his/her name in Japanese), write and speak like a Ninja (writing and speaking Japanese), paint like a Ninja, and act like a Ninja (learn beginner’s KARATE). On the last day, we will have a Ninja party and we would like you to join the party! We will not have class on March 7 & 14 (I will be off). No prior ninja experience is required. If your kids have any food allergies, please let us know.

Paper Crafting & Slime Time with Ms. Tamayo

Grades 2-5, Tuesdays, 3:30-4:30, Library, $300 (limited to 10 students)

This enrichment will involve a range of crafts that require multiple steps to create a project using mostly paper. We will engage in the process of origami, as well as make larger paper crafts that can be displayed. Some sessions will also include making a special slime that can be taken home. This class is suited for children who love to work with their hands in a creative way. It will highlight the importance and fun of a process, as well as the enjoyment and appreciation of a product they have worked hard to create. A light healthy snack will be provided during each session.

Sewing Arts Exploration with Dr. Mindy Grades 2-5, Mondays, 3:30-4:30, Science & Design Room, $300

Join this creative and fun class in sewing arts while learning a valuable, lifelong skill! Students will use a needle and thread to make stitches and begin basic embroidery. We will also use mini sewing machines to create more extensive projects of each artist's choosing. A variety of fabrics and materials are provided for inspired designs.

Soccer Fun on the Field with Mr. Royer

Middles, Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30, Field, $250 (limited to 8 students)

Join us for a fun high-energy soccer class. We'll learn and improve fundamental soccer skills such as using the different parts of our feet and dribbling. We'll get great exercise on the field while practicing new techniques and learning the basic rules of the game. This is a great enrichment for children who enjoy playing sports and like being active outdoors. Sportsmanship and fun are the priorities!

Spanish Club with Ms. Collins

Grades K-1, Wednesdays 3:30-4:30 K Cottage, $300

Have fun practicing Spanish with games and songs! This club will teach kids basic vocabulary and phrases through various activities including art projects, cooking, songs, and dances. Each week we will learn about a culture, tradition, or food from a Spanish-speaking country.

Sports & Games! with Ms. Hurley

Grades K-5, Tuesdays, 3:30-4:30, Field, Sport Court & Gym, $250

This action-packed class will teach students about popular sports and games that kids love to play at Gillispie. We'll play games like line tag and kickball on the sport court, hockey and basketball in the gym, dodgeball and capture the flag on the field, and much more! Emphasis will be placed on sportsmanship and playground etiquette. The best way to learn how to play a game is to PLAY IT! Lace-up your running shoes and get in on the action!

Stay and Play with Ms. Collins and Ms. Dutcher Grades K-1, Mondays 3:30-4:30, K Cottage, $300

Stay after school and play all the fun games that you never get a chance to during the school day! We will play classic games and learn new group games that promote cooperation, turn-taking, and understanding that playing games isn't always about winning or losing; it's about having fun! The kids in this club will also dabble in arts & crafts, using various mediums to create unique projects.

STEM Class with Ms. Boisnard & Ms. Leib

Middles, PK & K, Mondays, 3:30-4:30, Juniper $300 (limited to 18 students)

Using a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) approach, students will develop lifelong skills including problem-solving, collaborating on projects, and thinking critically. Through activities such as working with Snap-Circuits, coding with Bee-Bots, and exploring "STEM Bins" that prompt children to use different building materials, children will have the opportunity to integrate multiple disciplines. This enrichment is well-suited for boys and girls who like to tinker, enjoy puzzles, and spend hours with Legos or blocks.

Street Hockey with Coach Whelan

Grades 3-5, Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30, Sports Court, $250

Join us for a fun high-energy street hockey class. Learn and improve stick handling, passing, shooting, defense, goaltending, positions, and strategies while getting great exercise. All equipment is provided and all students wear eye protection. Players will use plastic sticks and hollow plastic pucks. Safety, sportsmanship, and fun are the priorities!
