St Mary's Bellringers bring back an old tradition at the Mayor's Civic Service today. Records found in old parish magazines tell us that on Mayor's Sunday in 1903, St Mary's bellringers rang Queen's Changes as the Mayor left Church after the service. A tradition was born and continued for several years. Although it is not clear when that custom lapsed it would not have been rung during WWI. This evening the tradition will be reborn and Queen's Changes will be rung as the Mayor leaves Church. Let us hope that it will continue for many years to come.

Festival of Harvest Some of the Flower Guild will be in church from 10am on Saturday 16th September to decorate for Harvest. On occasion, in the past, fruit and vegetables have been bought to supplement the gifts but since we had so many last year, we shall just rely upon whatever arrives on Sunday. A variation between fresh produce, dried and tins would be most useful for as usual, everything will be taken to The Beacon in support of their ongoing work with the residents. If you have flowers in your garden, they would be a delightful addition. Please come along if you feel you would like to be involved. The Thursday Bible Study at Jennifer’s will recommence at 7.30pm on 14th September where they will continue to study the book of Acts. The Wednesday study group at the Lunns will start back on Wednesday 4th October, studying the book of Mark. New members always welcome. A Coach trip to Skipton is being arranged to take place on Saturday 23rd September. Please contact Margaret Emmerson for further details. The Mother’s Union are arranging a coach trip to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne on Wednesday 27th September. All Welcome. Please contact Jane Oselton on 01748 811156 to book. The Happy Bodgers – Are you in need of some small practical assistance? Then perhaps the Happy Bodgers may be able to help. Why not give us a call on 01748 826803 and John Dickinson will see if they can help and take it from there.
