The Mothers’ Union is still collecting cleaning materials to give to families when they are able to leave the Women’s Refuge in Darlington. They will be passed on at the meeting on Tuesday 27th October, along with any donations towards shopping vouchers. Charity of the Month Results Very many thanks for the large number of voting slips received. All charities received a good amount of support, but there were six clear leaders in each of the home and abroad categories. In alphabetical order, the twelve which we will be supporting at St Mary's over the next year are: HOME Charities: Barnardos, Christians against Poverty, Church Army, Emmaus; Family Help Refuge Darlington, Samaritans. AWAY Charities: Embrace the Middle East, Mercy Ships, Tear Fund, Water Aid, World Vision, UMNHET (United Mission to Nepal Hospitals Endowment Trust).
The first retiring collection will be on Sunday November 1st, and then on the first Sunday of each following month. This will be entirely voluntary. The charities will run in alphabetical order, alternating between home and abroad, so the charity supported on November 1st will be Barnados.
Gillian, James, Jenny, Peter and Claire would like to thank everyone who helped make Monday night's Reader Licensing service so special. A huge thank you to Rev John, the Wardens, to welcomers, caterers, washer-uppers, bakers, choir and organist, bell ringers, and all the unseen helpers. And to everyone who came and supported us for such a special evening. Many thanks, Gillian.
