Charity of the Month On Sunday November 1st St Mary's will be launching a new way of charitable giving, supporting a 'charity of the month' with a retiring collection every first Sunday of each month. This will be entirely voluntary, but will be a way of supporting others in their Christian work or their care for the disadvantaged. Voting forms are at the back of church with a list of twenty charities to choose from. Please choose up to six home based and six with their focus abroad. Next Sunday is the final day for voting.

Today is Fun-Key Church Harvest at 4pm, refreshments from 3.40pm. We will be thanking God for his abundant love and creativity. We are exploring the theme of harvest with readings, hymns, craft, activities and a quiet space. If you would like to bring fresh or longlife harvest gifts to share with The Beacon at Catterick Garrison we would be very grateful. Queries to Gillian Lunn. We look forward to welcoming you. Monday 5th October at 7.30pm St Mary's Church is hosting the Diocesan Reader Licensing Service, to which everyone is warmly invited. Bishop James will be licensing Readers from Ripon, Leeds and Richmond, including James and Gillian. After the service we have been asked to provide refreshments. Claire Murray is kindly co-ordinating this and would be very grateful for help and for some more lovely cakes. The Diocese will reimburse. Please bring baking either on the Sunday or Monday evening. Many thanks. The Mothers’ Union is still collecting cleaning materials to give to families when they are able to leave the Women’s Refuge in Darlington. They will be passed on at the meeting on Tuesday 27th October, along with any donations towards shopping vouchers. SASH – providing temporary accommodation for 16-25 year olds Supported Lodgings hosts offer a safe place to live to young people who cannot live at home, but are not yet able to live independently. The young person is a lodger in the host’s home, pays rent and a contribution towards bills. They are expected to be in work, education or training. The host acts as a mentor to help the young person acquire the knowledge and skills they need to become independent. Regular meetings and training sessions with the SASH Support Worker ensure the placement is going well and that the young person is moving towards their goal of living independently. As with Nightstop, all the young people who are offered a place are referred to us from approved agencies and are police checked and fully risk-assessed.
