ENDOWMENT

CHALLENGE

GRANT Doubling the value of your gift

With a stronger endowment, the possibilities are endless. Gilman’s endowment initiatives provide spending flexibility and financial strength that will allow the School to plan for the future and embrace new opportunities and priorities as they arise. Endowed gifts are among the most meaningful and transformative contributions to the School. When added to the existing endowment, they become a permanent part of the Gilman legacy, providing for both current and future students and faculty and securing Gilman’s financial health in perpetuity. The First Things First campaign calls upon us to build on two endowment priorities— financial support & opportunity and teaching & learning—and the Endowment Challenge Grant allows leadership donors to double the value of their gift to these priorities.

how the endowment challenge grant works Campaign donors who make or pledge a gift of $25,000 or more to an endowment for the financial support & opportunity or teaching & learning priorities will receive a dollar-for-dollar match up to $250,000.* The matching funds are available for: • N ew gifts to existing endowed funds with a minimum $25,000 and maximum $250,000 contribution; • N ew endowed fund gifts with a minimum $50,000 and maximum $250,000 contribution.

In most cases, the matching funds will be provided within one year after a donor’s pledge is fulfilled in its entirety. *Match fund caps at $2 million. Only outright gifts are eligible; deferred gifts will not be matched. Commitment can be paid over five years. Only new gifts will be matched, although they may be added to existing endowed funds. Matching funds will not be included in an individual’s Gilman giving record.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR ENDOWMENT

SUPPORT

teaching & learning The campaign calls for an investment of $12.35 million in endowed funds that will assist with recruiting and supporting superb teachers. The campaign also calls for an investment of $1 million in educational program enhancements and new initiatives.

financial support & opportunity The campaign calls for $26.3 million in the form of endowed funds dedicated to Gilman’s financial aid budget. We must invest to ensure boys who will thrive here are able to choose this path—and that all Gilman boys benefit from being part of a community driven by aspiration and inspiration.

The best teachers—Gilman teachers— perceive what a boy is capable of, even before his parents might. What they do with that information in the moment, and how we empower them to do what they do, makes an immediate and lasting difference to boys. These “teaching moments” are the heart of a Gilman education.
