Coach Murphy has been involved with the Gilmour Academy baseball program for more than 29 years as both a coach and a player. He first stepped into the coaching role in 1993 under Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association and Gilmour Academy Hall of Famer Ray Sharnsky and has been a part of the coaching staff ever since, with the exception of the two years he took off in 1994 and 1995 to attend law school in Michigan. Through the years, he was part of the program that won countless league titles, sent nine teams to the regional tournament, one state semifinal appearance in 2008, and a state final runner-up in 2019. The 2008 and the 2019 teams also set school records for most wins in a season with 25. Overall, the Lancers earned 450 wins against 225 losses during that time. Upon Sharnsky’s retirement from coaching, Murphy assumed the same responsibilities under Head Coach Jay Fowler. Following Fowler’s retirement, Murphy was named Head Coach in August of 2019.
