The Winter Art Show features work from Leslie Burwell’s first semester classes; a new installation, Where Science and Myth Meet; and Kate Absher’s recycled wall sculpture, constructed by Mrs. Bartholf ’s class. The Davidson College Symphony Orchestra & Jazz Ensemble perform at Northwood on their Winter Tour. Charlotte Harrison & Kate Absher received Gold & Silver Keys at the NC Central Regional Scholastic Art Awards, for photography, graphic design, and portfolio submissions.

Winter Dance Concerts feature works by dance instructor Leah Smith and a solo choreographed and performed by Diamond Ferguson. Visual artists display new works at the Opening Reception of the 17th Annual Chatham Studio Tour at Central Carolina Community College. NHS institutes local chapters of Honor Societies for all four arts disciplines. Thespians & Dance Honor Society join National Arts Honor Society & Tri-M International Music Honor Society. Choral instructor Marilyn Shugart’s new musical theatre class presents an evening of Broadway classics. Band & Vocal Ensembles present Music for a Holiday Night, the annual benefit for the CORA Food Pantry. Senior Ben Apple receives the Eric Ramsey Memorial Scholarship.

The NHS Jazz Ensemble hosts the World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra in a joint community concert and participates in the Disney Jazz Celebration in Orlando, FL the following week. NHSAEF Valentine’s Fashion Show raises funds for Scholarships. Winter guard takes first place at their first 2010 competition at Clayton High.

The annual spring musical, Guys and Dolls, celebrates the 100th anniversary of composer Frank Loesser’s birth. Kate Absher is nominated for a NC Theatre Capital Award for her performance as General Cartwright. Winter guard takes home the Silver Medal at AIA Championships.

NHS hosts the inaugural Chatham All-County Chorus featuring students from Chatham Central, Jordan Matthews & Northwood. Choral students perform at Galloway Ridge. The Concert Band participates in the NC Central Region Band Festival. The NHS Jazz Ensemble performs at Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival and ChathamArts’ Clydefest.
