A Look Back
John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts School of Excellence Award. It was one of only five North Carolina schools to receive the honor for Outstanding Achievement in Arts Education. The
awards committee was comprised of representatives from ArtsNC—a member of the Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education Network, the NC Arts Council, and the NC Department of Public Instruction. Karen Wells, Executive Director of ArtsNC, commented, “The Committee selecting the Schools of Excellence cited numerous examples of Northwood High School’s commitment to arts education. Northwood excels among all North Carolina Schools in its discipline-based arts curriculum and prolific course offerings. The support of the Chatham County Schools Board in facility renovations and the pride indicated in your principal’s letter demonstrates a broad base subsequent scholarship awards, which also serves to exemplify the remarkable parental involvement your program has achieved.”

Brett Cox joins NHS in 2014 for his first year teaching instrumental music. A native of Denton, NC, he graduated from UNC at Chapel Hill as a NC Teaching Fellow. He performed with the UNC Wind Ensemble & the UNC Trombone Quartet. Cox has served as the Low Brass Instructor, Marching Instructor, and Drill Writer at West Stanly High School in Oakboro.
NHS Alum Adam Ingram Perry joins NHS to teach Photography & Tech Theatre. He is a 2014 graduate of the School of Filmmaking at the UNC School of the Arts. As a directing major, he studied under Hollywood legend Peter Bogdanovich, independent filmmaker Wayne Crawford, and television director Charlie Haid. He has written, directed, and edited short films that have shown in film festivals both across the state and nationwide.

John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts School of Excellence Award. It was one of only five North Carolina schools to receive the honor for Outstanding Achievement in Arts Education. The
awards committee was comprised of representatives from ArtsNC—a member of the Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education Network, the NC Arts Council, and the NC Department of Public Instruction. Karen Wells, Executive Director of ArtsNC, commented, “The Committee selecting the Schools of Excellence cited numerous examples of Northwood High School’s commitment to arts education. Northwood excels among all North Carolina Schools in its discipline-based arts curriculum and prolific course offerings. The support of the Chatham County Schools Board in facility renovations and the pride indicated in your principal’s letter demonstrates a broad base subsequent scholarship awards, which also serves to exemplify the remarkable parental involvement your program has achieved.”
