INTRODUCTION Brand Message At Vinnie’s we provide our customers with authentic Italian cuisine in a lively and welcoming atmosphere by fusing what we love about tradition with what excites us about the cutting edge. Here, we believe that great food and a great time should always be right around the corner. Purpose of Manual The purpose of this manual is to help current and future users create consistent design that best communicates the goals and objectives of Vinnie’s Italian Kitchen.

THE PRIMARY MARK The Primary Mark combines the main Vespa symbol, the name “Vinnie’s” and the tagline “italian kitchen” in a stacked orientation. The combination of these three elements is the best way to describe the restaurant, and should be used whenever possible, preferably in full color.

One-Color When one-color printing is the only option, the Primary Mark may be printed in black or white. The background on which the mark is being placed should determine which version of the Primary Mark is used. Darker backgrounds require use of the white version, lighter backgrounds require use of the black version. Using black or white allows for maximum strength and contrast from the background, which is extremely important for the legibility of the mark.

THE PRIMARY MARK WITHOUT TAGLINE This Primary Mark Without Tagline may only be used in applications in which the audience is familiar to the restaurant and does not require the descriptive tagline in order to recognize the business.

THE LINEAR MARK The Linear Mark combines the three elements of the symbol, name, and tagline in a more horizontal orientation. Here, the name and tagline are stacked and the symbol sits to the left of the words. This mark may be used in situations when a horizontal mark is necessary.

THE CIRCULAR MARK The Circular Mark may be used for applications that are physically circular, such as a coaster, or that are more informal or decorative in nature, such as the label on a to-go container.

THE WORDMARK The Wordmark does not include a symbol and is to be used when the illustrative component is not desired. This could be when the symbol could interfere in some way with the surrounding design elements or when the symbol has already been used elsewhere in the application (Business Card). The word mark is only to be used in white or black, depending on the value of the backgound.

CLEAR SPACE Whenever a mark is in use there should be an area of clear space on all sides in order to prevent it from being crowded by other design elements. The clear space for all marks should be equal to or greater than the cap height of the ‘V’ in the mark. It applies to ALL versions of ALL marks. Primary Mark Without Tagline

INAPPROPRIATE USES Here are ten examples of alterations to the Primary Mark that should not be made at any time. These rules apply to all marks in the Family of Marks.

GRAPHIC ELEMENTS The Vespa Symbol The Vespa is the most important grpahic element and is used in logotypes and applications as a visual identifier of the business. It should always be displayed using the three colors from the primary color palette: black, red, and yellow, or in black or white for one-color uses. It is sometimes displayed in applications with a yellow ground, such as in the business system and kid’s menu. The Map Pin The Map Pin is used when indicating the location of the business on a map, such as in the website. The Map Pin should be shown in mint green with a black “V.”

The Social Media Icons The Social Media Icons should always be shown as mint green icons on white circles. The ‘V’ The ‘V’ is a graphic element that is the first letter of the primary mark. It can be used in situations where a very simple representation of the Primary Mark is desired, such as the Map Pin. The Color Bars Bars of red, yellow and green can be used as borders or fields of color, such as on the edges of pages or to contain areas of the website.

COLOR PALETTE PRIMARY The colors in the Primary Color Palette are taken directly from the Primary Mark; the black is taken from the type and linework in the Vespa, the red is from the body of the Vespa, and the yellow is from the headlight of the Vespa. These three colors should dominate in all applications, with the Secondary Color Palette used sparingly.

COLOR PALETTE SECONDARY The color in the Secondary Color is preferred for graphic elements such as the Map Pin and the Social Media Icons. The mint green of the Secondary Color Palette should be used sparingly, with the three colors of the Primary Color Palette dominating in all applications. TYPEFACES PRIMARY Gill Sans Gill Sans should be used for all headers and subheaders, in any style and weight. For web applications. Gill Sans is the only typeface that should be used. Never use a typeface other than the primary and secondary typefaces.

Front

The Business Card The size of the business card is 3.5'' wide by 2'' high. The front of the business card featured the Vespa symbol on a yellow ground. The back has a black field at the top with “Vinnie’s” reversed out in white. The bottom of this field aligns with the top of the yellow ground on the front side. The contact information is aligned to the left edge of “Vinnie’s.” The contact information is set in 8pt. Gill Sans with 13pt. leading. The owner’s name, email address and phone number are in semibold with additional tracking of 25. The website is in red and bold.

The Letterhead The size of the letterhead is 8.5'' wide by 11'' high. The Primary Mark is used with the same yellow ground as the front of the business card. This yellow ground also contains the contact information, which is set in 8pt. Gill Sans in bold with 10pt. leading. The total letterhead element has a bleed on the left edge of the page and is positioned 0.4'' from the top edge of the page. The letter itself is to be set in black 11pt. regular Times New Roman with 13.5pt. leading. If the letter is written in a word processing program 1.5 line spacing should be used, with hard returns for line spacing. The text box for the letter is positioned 2.75'' from the top, 2'' from the right, 0.75'' from the bottom, and 2'' from the left of the page.

The Envelope The size of the envelope after it is folded is 9.5'' wide by 4.13'' tall. The same combination of Primary Mark with yellow ground from the letter head is used for the return address of the front of the envelope. The yellow ground also contains the contact information, which is set in 8pt. Gill Sans in bold with 10pt. leading. The total letterhead element has a bleed on the left edge of the page and is positioned 0.4’’ from the top edge of the page. The back flat of the envelope is solid black.
