Dear Campers and Families,  We missed you this past summer and can’t wait to engage the girls at camp with programs that will have them building lasting memories and having fun outdoors with friends old and new.

THANK YOU for understanding and supporting the difficult decisions that were made for the health and safety of the girls and our staff. Our camp staff were disappointed that they would not be able to do what they love to do and recognized that girls were going to be disappointed by missing camp. We received many notes and e-mails from families sharing that while their daughter would miss camp, we did the right thing. It was great to have so many campers participate in our virtual summer programs working together to keep our camp community united. We’re ready to see campers again and we hope that you are ready to send them to camp. We understand that there may be hesitation, and with that in mind, we have been especially thoughtful and intentional on how we are moving forward. You will see some changes in our programming due to our added safety precautions— we have reduced the capacity of girls attending camp each week, modified our group and unit sizes, updated transportation options for day camp, and food service for resident camp. We are committed to accommodating all the girls that want to attend camp and have added more weeks to the summer schedule. We have always put health and safety first for our campers and will continue to do so with newly added processes. Together we will share the excitement of watching your girl as she challenges herself, connects with other girls, and is mentored by a group of amazing camp staff. Have fun exploring the 2021 camp experiences. We will see you soon!

PLANNING & BASICS

Camp is a Community For more than 100 years, Girl Scout camp has brought girls outdoor adventures full of learning, challenge, a whole lot of friendship, and tons of fun. This happens through a community— each girl who comes to camp is welcomed into a group of girls who together can: ●● Discover their ability to better solve problems and overcome challenges. ●● Develop leadership skills, build social bonds, and become team players. ●● Increase their level of overall happiness and gratitude, and care for the environment. Days playing in the sun (and rain!) and nights singing around a campfire build memories, skills, and friendships that keep girls going strong through the challenges they face when they return to “the real world”. This happens through three key elements of Girl Scout camp: ●● Supportive relationships with leaders and peers, which are vital sources of security and encouragement. ●● Direct, hands-on experiences that let girls practice improving their skills. ●● Novelty! Girl Scout camp can be a truly unique experience that allows girls to move out of their comfort zone to try new things. Whether they attend Girl Scout camp for a day, a week, or longer, girls are given first-rate opportunities to learn and explore, expand their horizons, and have unforgettable fun with friends old and new—all under the guidance of caring, trained adults committed to helping them unleash their remarkable leadership potential. Volunteer with Day Camp! Day camp needs adult volunteers to help girls build independence, learn new skills, and make new friends as part of the camp community. We are seeking people ages 18+ who can chaperone transportation, spend a week at camp, or teach a special skill. See page 73 for more information.

Work at Day or Resident Camp! Camp has a huge impact on girls through a supportive community. Are you up to the challenge to build that community? We are seeking hard-working, positive, enthusiastic, and caring adults ages 18+ to fill counselor and leadership positions at all camp locations. Pass on the word to those you know! PLANNING & BASICS

Ways To Camp That Are S'more Than a Moment! Our camp experiences are packed with friendships, adventure, life skills, unforgettable memories, and of course, s’mores! There are so many fun ways to camp. Find the best fit for your camper or family below! Girl Scout summer camp is open to ALL girls entering grades 1-12, regardless of race, color, nationality, or socioeconomic factors. Not a registered Girl Scout? Not a problem! Sign up today and join us at camp to see what Girl Scouting is all about. No need to be in a troop to participate; see page 71 for more information.

Pick the adventure that is right for you! TROOP, GROUP, & FAMILY CAMP Camps are open year-round! In-person programs are offered by season and location. These options offer troops and families an opportunity to join in the fun of the outdoors. Visit girlscoutsgcnwi.org/camp to check-out all year-round camping and program options.

SUMMER DAY CAMP

SUMMER RESIDENT CAMP

A daytime camp experience that runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Girls in grades 4+ can choose to spend a night sleeping over at camp.

An overnight camp experience ranging from a three-day sampler to multiple week programs. Most campers stay for a week at a time, from Sunday afternoon to Friday evening.

Check out all day camp programs on pages 12-31.

Check out all resident camp programs on pages 38-66.

Excited for summer day camp or resident camp? Attend as an individual! Camp is a great place to make new friends. We intentionally design our programs and activities to assist girls in meeting and getting to know other campers. (Approximately half of our campers choose to camp this way!)

Go as a buddy pair! Girls can attend camp with a buddy from their troop or a friend who is not yet a Girl Scout. A girl may request one buddy when registering for camp; both girls must request each other and be registered for the same program during the same week session. Please note: groups, troops, and multiple buddy requests cannot be accommodated for a non-troop camp program.

Girl Scouts Camp Year-Round!

Registratio n for yearround programs a nd propert y reservation s open now ! girlscouts gcnwi.org /camp

For Girl Scouts, camping and outdoor experiences are in our D.N.A. Mix and match options for troop outdoor adventures that are the best fit for you and your troop!

TROOP, GROU P, & FAM I LY PROGRAMS

CUSTOM OUTDOOR PROGRAMS

Outdoor programs are facilitated adventures for girls and troops throughout the council—and they happen all year long! Try your hand at a variety of activities: archery, badge work, high adventure, campfires, and more.

If your troop is looking for an outdoor program on a specific day or topic, a custom program is for you! This is a great first step for a troop taking steps toward doing outdoor activities, a troop looking for advanced knowledge on a badge or skill, or for groups looking to coordinate an experience for a larger group, such as a service unit.

●● Programs are age-group specific, with activities and skills focused on that age range. This way, everyone gets an excellent program. ●● Many programs are designed as troop experiences. When adults attend in ratio with their girls, the girls take huge strides in building courage and confidence.

10 | girlscoutsgcnwi.org/camp

TROOP CAMPI NG & PROPERTY RENTALS What could be more fun than camping with your troop? Girl Scouts can enjoy outdoor getaways at one of our many camp properties located in the Chicagoland area. Unlike other events listed in this brochure, you are completely in charge of your experience! Explore camp, pack your day with activities, or just kick back and enjoy quality time with your group.

ADULT OUTDOOR TRAI N I NG In order to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone involved, we require outdoor training for adults. ●● Outdoor Module I to camp with your troop in a lodge. ●● Outdoor Module II & III to camp in primitive units, build fires, and cook over a fire. ●● Outdoor Module IV to adventure backcountry and build primitive camping skills.

Visit the Gir l Scouts’ Vo lunteer Tool Camp Train Kit (VTK): ed Adult Se ction at girlscoutsg cnwi.org/v tk.

Be sure you can log into the program registration site or create an account before February 1 to make registration as easy as possible. Please reference page 73 for more information.

Day camp provides an opportunity for your camper to spend time outdoors, make new friends, and create unforgettable summer memories. She will learn valuable outdoor skills, play games in the sun, sing silly camp songs, and practice overcoming challenges. While having fun, she also will continue to develop her courage, confidence and character in a safe environment.

Registration is handled by each volunteer-led day camp. Some of these volunteerled day camps utilize the online registration system. Take a look at some of the volunteer-led camps that are offered around the council and head out to camp for an awesome adventure.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Council-Run Summer Camps Important Information Please read the following information and policies carefully prior to registering. This information can also be found online at girlscoutsgcnwi.org/camp.

PRIOR TO DAY CAMP & RESIDENT CAMP ACCESSIBILITY/ACCOMMODATIONS Our goal is to provide a positive camp experience for all girls. Please help us ensure your girl’s success at camp. Caregivers of girls with special needs – including those with disabilities or health concerns – should contact us prior to registration. This allows us the opportunity to provide accommodations and adequate support for her camp experience. Our staff can also help you choose the sessions that are the best fit for your girl. Specialty dietary needs can be accommodated with advance notice, please contact the programs’ Camp Director. CAMPER PAPERWORK In order to establish the best experience possible for all campers, we require additional health and personal information to be submitted after registration for day and resident campers. The more knowledge we have, the better we can help make your camper’s experience a success! Within 10 days of registering for camp you will receive an email with a link to your camper’s electronic paperwork. This email will come from campdoc.com, please make sure to add them to your safe senders list. Campers must have completed paperwork to attend camp. Summer Camp Paperwork is Due May 1, 2021.

Every girl must have a health history form on file to participate in summer camp. This is mandatory. A camper’s registration will not be considered complete until her health history is submitted. Please note: • Any medications to be taken while at camp must be accompanied by the “Authorization to Medicate” form. • Campers with serious or life-threatening allergies must have an “Allergy Action Plan” on file. Please list any severe allergies or other important health information. • Doctor’s Physical Requirement, Resident Camp Only: Your camper’s physical form must be filled out by a physician. This may be substituted for a current school or sports physical that is current within 24 months of camper attendance. Upload the form to the paperwork online or send to customercare@girlscoutsgcnwi.org GIRL SCOUT MEMBERSHIP Girl Scout membership is required to participate in camp. If your girl is not currently registered, a $25 membership fee will be automatically charged when registering for camp. This fee includes basic accident insurance coverage for all registered Girl Scouts as a supplement to existing insurance coverage. PROGRAM AGE For programs that occur prior to June 1, 2021, register your girl for the grade/age group she is currently in. For programs that occur on or after June 1, 2021, register your girl for the grade she will be entering in fall 2021.

AT DAY CAMP & RESIDENT CAMP HEALTH AND SAFETY The health and safety of all campers is our number one priority. Our camps follow standards set forth by Girl Scouts of the USA and the American Camp Association. Our Girl Scout camps offering summer camp programming are licensed by the state, and uphold state and federal codes for health, safety, site food service management, human resources, and program activities. All camps and in-person programs follow strict cleaning and sanitization procedures according

72 | girlscoutsgcnwi.org/camp

to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), federal, and local guidelines. Each camp has established emergency procedures in consultation with local law enforcement and emergency services. HEALTH CARE Each camp has a health supervisor who will contact caregivers as needed, in addition to monitoring and administering first aid and routine health care. CHECK-IN HEALTH SCREENING Upon arrival at camp, all girls will receive a health screening by trained staff per current state and local guidelines. Any camper with temperature over 100oF, communicable disease, or suspected communicable disease will not be able to stay at camp and will need to return home. We will make every effort to reschedule your girl in a different session. Health screening includes temperature check and overall scan for apparent illness or injury. Additional health screening at resident camp includes a feet check and scalp check for lice or nits. No refunds will be issued if a camper goes home due to lice or nits. WEATHER Programs are held rain or shine! If the weather is unusually hot or cold, activities are changed to keep campers safe. Weather alert radios are monitored and there are designated storm shelters for each camp in cases of severe weather. CAMP STAFF GSGCNWI camp staff are responsible, enthusiastic adults who are hired based on their interest and experience in working with youth in an outdoor setting. All staff (female, male, international, and domestic) complete an interview process, pass a background check, and attend 5-10 days of on-site camp training prior to camper arrival. They are certified in CPR & First Aid and trained in outdoor skills, camp programming, and how to facilitate an exceptional camper experience.

PROGRAM SCHEDULE Because girls participate in planning activities with their program group, no two weeks or programs are exactly the same! All information in this brochure is correct as of November 2020. Information and program availability may be subject to change.
