All Ages Update
1
Here’s Our Update! The three age-level versions of our 2013-14 Program Essentials are still online at www.girlscoutsgcnwi.org. They contain many great program opportunities through the summer. This update contains NEW and UPDATED information confirmed following the publication of those original guides. Please use this update as a complement to those guides. Our registration site register.girlscoutsgcnwi.org features an online calendar which enables girls, families and troops to search for events and workshops by age level, date or subject. Users create a login and password the first time they access it. Girls must be registered members of Girl Scouts in order to participate in programs. We also welcome girls who have never been Girl Scouts before ... just sign up and pay the $15 national Girl Scout membership fee when you sign up for these activities.
Forms and Resources
Many council forms are available online. To ensure use of the most recent version of each form, download forms as needed and discard previous versions. Most council forms online are PDF (portable document format) files. PDF forms are “readonly” and must be opened with Adobe Acrobat Reader (a free plug-in) and printed. Download Adobe Acrobat Reader at: http://get.adobe.com/reader/. In addition, forms are available in the Girl Scout Gathering Places located in Chicago, Homewood, Joliet, Lisle, Merrillville and Vernon Hills or through your service team.
Program Resources
In addition to the opportunities found in this guide, Girl Scouts and volunteers have a wealth of resources available to help them make the most of their Girl Scout experience. In addition to reviewing what is available on our website, we recomend connecting with other Girl Scout volunteers, visiting any Girl Scout Gathering Place or Council Shop or shop for resources online at your own leisure 24 hours a day/7 days a week at shopgirlscouts.org.

how to register Deadlines and Min/Max Requirements
Workshops and events for girls and adults are available at various locations throughout the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana area. To locate specific workshops and events, go to the online registration system and search by topic, level or award. Online registration is available for council-wide programs, workshops, trainings and service projects. Pay online using a credit card, debit card or bank account draft. Visit our online calendar and registration system by going to our home page at girlscoutsgcnwi.org and clicking on the “Register for Programs” link featured in the page footer. Or go directly to register.girlscoutsgcnwi.org.
Option 2: Register by Mail, Fax or In-Person
Fill out a Program Registration Form (available at the back of this guide) and drop off, mail or fax it to the attention of our Girl Scout Program Registrar at the Lisle Gathering Place, 2400 Ogden Ave. Suite 400, Lisle, IL 60532-3933. Additional registration forms are available at all Gathering Places or can be downloaded from the council website at girlscoutsgcnwi.org/forms. The form may be duplicated as needed. There is no limit to the number of programs for which you can register. Simply complete a separate registration form for each program. Individual girls or troops of girls are welcome as each program indicates. Payments can be made by check or by Visa, MasterCard, Discover or debit card. Program registration is live as soon as this guide is posted!
Snacks
Due to allergies, outside snacks are not permitted at council programs. No food will be supplied by the council unless specifically stated in the program description.
Program Fees
All program fees must be paid in full with the registration. Fees are deposited when the registration is processed. Do not postdate checks. There will be a $25 service charge for checks returned due to insufficient funds. Fees listed are per girl. Events/workshops listed are generally for girl members only. A limited number of programs are also available for adult participation. Adults must pay when participating as noted. Unless specified as a family or parent/girl program, use the recommended ratios for the number of adults per girls as listed in the Safety Activity Checkpoints found on our website atwww.girlscoutsgcnwi.org/ volunteer-resources. Normal fee charges help cover supplies and/or facilitator’s fees. Actual costs are offset by council funding such as fall product and Girl Scout Cookie program profit, “Family Partnership” contributions, grants and other funder allocations.
If the council cancels an activity or an event for any reason, troops or families will receive a full refund. Council events and activities run rain or shine unless there are safety concerns which prompt the council to issue a cancellation notice. Participants choosing not to attend will not be issued a refund. Refunds will be made as follows: • No refunds issued on pre-purchased tickets. • Refund requests must be made in writing prior to registration deadline. • No refunds will be made for registrants not attending the program. • Girl and adult membership registration is non-refundable.
Girl-Adult Ratio
Adult volunteers are needed at some programs to maintain the appropriate girl/adult ratio. If space is limited, once the girl/adult ratio has been met, no additional adult registrations will be accepted.
Male Volunteers
Men are encouraged and welcome to participate in Girl Scouts as volunteers or event chaperones. Separate accommodations will be made as appropriate in accordance to Safety Activity Checkpoints which specifically prohibits men from sleeping in the same space as girl members. Men may participate in overnights only if separate sleeping quarters and bathrooms are available for their use. For more information about overnight regulations for male volunteers, call 630-544-5900, or e-mail: programdepartment@girlscoutsgcnwi.org.
Siblings
Siblings may not attend programs unless they are fully registered Girl Scouts who meet the age level recommendations for the program or if the program is specified as a family event.
Awards
Insignia such as petals and badges, journey awards and keepsakes, patches and charms are not included in the program fees unless indicated. Insignia may be purchased at any Council Shop. Requirements are achieved by the interpretation of the facilitator.

Project Law Track
Step into the Exciting World of a Career in Law! Sign up for Project Law Track: March 6 - May 3, 2014
Designed by girls, for girls! Project Law Track is a series of interactive sessions that will introduce you to the fascinating field of law! Attorneys with the Chicago Bar Association’s Alliance for Women committee and teen Girl Scouts worked together to design four exciting sessions, each of which will focus on a different facet of the practice of law. Learn whether courtrooms are really like what you see on the big screen, what it takes to have a career in law, then plan and stage your very own mock trial! Meet and work side by side with women lawyers who specialize in all areas of the exciting world of Law – from Corporate Lawyers, to Litigators, Intellectual Property Lawyers, Immigration Attorneys, and Prosecutors – just to name a few! Session 1 - Law: as Seen on TV – Have you ever wondered if the courtroom is as action-packed as it is on TV and in the movies? Do lawyers really get to yell out, “objection!”? And do judges really have to hold people in contempt of court that often? Talk with an attorney about what really goes down in a court of law. Session 2 - Law School/Career Day – Interested in learning about careers in law? This is your chance to find out what it takes! Take a tour of a real law school, chat with current law students, and find out what specialty might interest you.
Session 3 - Prepare Your Case! – Step into the shoes of a real courtroom attorney as you work with other girls to prepare for your own mock trial! Attorneys with the Chicago Bar Association will help you formulate your arguments and prepare your case. Session 4 - Try Your Case! – You have prepared your case, now it is time to try it in front of a real judge! Learn what it feels like to be a trial attorney. Afterwards, receive valuable feedback from judges, attorneys and fellow Girl Scouts who will be there to cheer you on.

Camp CEO 2014 General Information
Camp CEO: June 15-20, 2014 “One of my most profound and influential leadership experiences came to me through Camp CEO, a week-long program where girls connect with real, powerful women in the business and career world and learn from their stories of achievement and personal growth.”—Joanne D., Girl Scout and Camp CEO alumni
What is Camp CEO? Camp CEO is a fun, five-day overnight camp that brings together 25 teen girls and 25 of our area’s most accomplished women executives for a highly-rewarding, unique and often surprising opportunity to learn what it’s really like to be an executive woman in today’s world. Sitting around the campfire, you’ll discover how these real women started out just like you – a teen girl with dreams, goals and everyday challenges. For part of the time, you will be matched one-on-one with a business woman, and together you’ll experience unique sessions designed to build your leadership and professional skills. You’ll learn how the pros network, to plan for your financial future, and to focus on your strengths during an interview for a job or college. One highlight during the week is a candlelight dinner party complete with a professional chef. Of course, you will participate in all of your favorite camp activities as well: swimming, archery, canoeing and more! Details: Who:
High-school-age girls (ages 14 and up or at least entering the 9th grade in the fall)

Available in the council shops for BR, JR Featured in a Chicago Tribune Magazine article about girls and bullying, this illustrated booklet raises issues of how children sometimes treat each other and how it feels to be the one left out of the fun. Each scene focuses only on the children’s feet thus eliminating the common habit of stereotyping people by physical appearance. Includes adult guide.
