general information Unless specifically stated, GSHNJ programs are for registered members only. Program registration must be completed through our online registration system. Questions? Contact us at info@gshnj.org or 908-518-4400.

How To Register 1. Go to www.gshnj.org and click on “Program Registration” in the top right corner of any page. 2. Log in. This log-in information may be different from that used for MyGS. Not sure? Call us at 908-518-4400. 3. Search for your desired program in the white search box on the right side, or use the filters on the left side to narrow your available options. 4. Click on the name of the program you’d like and then click “Register Now.” 5. Follow the prompts to select registrants, check out, and pay. 6. Look for your program registration confirmation email.

Age Levels Throughout this guide, the grade/age levels will be color-coded and denoted in the following way: Daisy Brownie Junior Cadette Senior Ambassador All Girl Scouts

K-1 2-3 4-5 6-8 9 - 10 11 - 12 K - 12

Chaperone Policy If you are attending a GSHNJ program as an individual girl, you must have an adult chaperone accompany you. Unless specifically indicated, no GSHNJ programs are “drop-off” events. If you are attending a GSHNJ program as a troop/group, you must begin with two unrelated adult chaperones (both with cleared background checks on file; one of whom is female) and may add additional adults according to minimum safety ratios as outlined in Safety Activity Checkpoints.

Program Surveys We take great pride in making sure the programs we offer meet our high standards in providing fun, safe, and relevant experiences for Girl Scouts of all ages. To create and deliver 400+ programs each year, we rely on a combination of GSHNJ staff and community partners; we can’t be everywhere all the time to evaluate each individual event—we need your help! Ask your grown-up to help you complete the short, quick survey they receive by email after each program to tell us how it went, what you loved, what needs work, and what you learned. It shouldn’t take more than five minutes, and your responses directly affect our programming selections for the next trimester. The more we hear from you, the better our programs will be—so, thanks!

Destination: Costa Rica 2021 GSHNJ is going to Costa Rica in 2021, and we have a ticket with your name on it! Open to all registered members who will be Cadettes or older in 2021, you may attend on your own, with a parent, with a friend, or as a whole troop! In fact, we’re offering one free adult spot for every six girls who register.

What a great way to use the Five Skills you learned in the Cookie Program to set and meet a big goal! We’ll spend nine days discovering the biodiversity of this beautiful country, visiting hot springs, hiking to waterfalls, a jungle safari boat cruise, and even performing a service project. All aboard? Prices rise as the trip gets closer, so head to www.gshnj.org/travel to view the itinerary and register to lock in the lowest price available!

NJ TRANSIT’s Patch Program will teach Girl Scouts about the different forms of public transportation, how to be seen and safe when walking and riding, transit signs and signals and much more! Complete the activity requirements and earn a patch! For details or to participate, call (973) 491-8060 or email safetyrules@njtransit.com

Outdoor and First Aid/CPR Trainings So your girls want to go camping… have you completed the correct training? There are three levels of Outdoors & Overnights trainings available—each step builds on the previous one, so start with O&O 1 online self-study, and advance from there. Any time your troop travels away from your regular meeting place—on a field trip, an overnight, or a program—you must have a Troop First Aider present. Your Troop First Aider does not have to be a leader, but does need to be a registered adult who has completed an in-person certification course in First Aid and CPR/AED by the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, American Safety and Health Institute, National Safety Council, or EMP America. Online certification courses are not acceptable. Troop First Aiders are welcome to complete these certification courses anywhere, but GSHNJ offers trainings through the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross at deeply discounted rates. 21

Dates for O&O, First Aid and CPR are added on a rolling basis, so check our website event calendar regularly.
