Research shows us that Girl Scouts soar in the outdoors: the more girls go outdoors with their friends, the happier they are with their Girl Scout experience. Not only that, but the benefits girls gain from their outdoor adventures in Girl Scouts extend into adulthood. GSHNJ offers three camps and three ways for you to give your girls the gift of camp. Camp Hoover sits on 340 acres in Middleville, NJ. It offers sleep-away camp during the summer and year-round access to a variety of sites ranging from primitive camping to heated cabins with indoor bathrooms, a large dining hall with an industrial kitchen, and outside spaces of all kinds. Choose from a wide selection of activities including boating and waterfront activities on Swartswood Lake, a challenge course, archery, programs-in-a-box, arts & crafts, and all-inclusive overnight options. Hire a subject matter expert to elevate your activities, or run with it yourself. Check out the renovations to our dining hall bathrooms and chalets!

SUMMER CAMP • Beyond the fun, exercise, and skill-building, the things girls do at Girl Scout summer camp foster life skills they can’t get other places. Spending a few days, a week, or the whole summer at camp provides your girl an individual camp experience that will send her home ready to take the lead from the classroom to the boardroom and beyond. Whether she is just beginning to explore the outdoors or is a camper extraordinaire, summer camp offers life-changing, memory-making adventure. TROOP OR SERVICE UNIT CAMPOREES • Camp fun isn’t only for the summer: all three GSHNJ camps are available for troops, groups, and whole service units to craft a unique camping experience perfect for them. Use any of our facilities to fulfill your outdoor needs: host an event that you plan yourself, come for the day, spend the weekend, add-on program packages, or work with our experts to create an allinclusive adventure of any size for any ages and any comfort level. We’re here to make your stay easy, enjoyable, and fun! YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS • What better way to build your girls’ confidence in the outdoors than by learning and practicing skills in a low-stakes, short-term, fun afternoon (or overnight!) at camp? GSHNJ offers dozens of year-round outdoor experiences for Girl Scouts of all ages at each of our camps; you’ll find a full listing of programs on our website along with the three www.gshnj.org/camp seasonal Program Guides created each year. These programs are intended for individual girls, small groups, or whole troops to attend. 908-947-1708

Chaperone Policy If you are attending a GSHNJ program as an individual girl, you must have an adult chaperone accompany you. Unless specifically indicated, no GSHNJ programs are “drop-off” events. If you are attending a GSHNJ program as a troop/group, you must begin with two unrelated adult chaperones (both with cleared background checks on file; one of whom is female) and may add additional adults according to minimum safety ratios as outlined in Safety Activity Checkpoints.
Program Surveys We take great pride in making sure the programs we offer meet our high standards in providing fun, safe, and relevant experiences for Girl Scouts of all ages. To create and deliver 400+ programs each year, we rely on a combination of GSHNJ staff and community partners; we can’t be everywhere all the time to evaluate each individual event—we need your help! Ask your grown-up to help you complete the short, quick survey they receive by email after each program to tell us how it went, what you loved, what needs work, and what you learned. It shouldn’t take more than five minutes, and your responses directly affect our programming selections for the next trimester. The more we hear from you, the better our programs will be—so, thanks!

Outdoor and First Aid/CPR Trainings So your girls want to go camping… have you completed the correct training? There are three levels of Outdoors & Overnights trainings available—each step builds on the previous one, so start with O&O 1 online self-study, and advance from there. Any time your troop travels away from your regular meeting place—on a field trip, an overnight, or a program—you must have a Troop First Aider present. Your Troop First Aider does not have to be a leader, but does need to be a registered adult who has completed an in-person certification course in First Aid and CPR/AED by the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, American Safety and Health Institute, National Safety Council, or EMP America. Online certification courses are not acceptable. Troop First Aiders are welcome to complete these certification courses anywhere, but GSHNJ offers trainings through the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross at deeply discounted rates. Dates for O&O, First Aid and CPR are added on a rolling basis, so check our website event calendar regularly.
