OCTOBER 2017
All girls, all the time It was my pleasure to travel with Girl Scouts of Central Indiana’s delegation to Columbus, Ohio, for the 54th National Council Session of Girl Scouts of the USA. During the opening ceremony, after watching more than 200 Girl Scouts present flags from across the country and around the globe, we were inspired by JoAnn Deak, Ph.D., who discussed the importance of our girls-only organization. She said, “Girls who spend more time in a single-gender setting consistently do better in leadership, success and outcomes.” And we couldn’t agree more! As Girl Scouts, we are dedicated to the G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader) ™ in each and every girl and volunteer who walks through our doors. For more than 105 years, Girl Scouts has provided an environment where girls are comfortable exploring who they are, and discovering who they want to become.
Thanks to this approach, Girl Scouts have gone on to become leaders in business, entertainment, media, space exploration, politics, tech, and so much more. It’s all in the numbers. • 97 percent of parents say Girl Scouts has been a positive activity for their daughter. • 96 percent of girls have tried at least one new thing in Girl Scouts. • 90 percent of parents say their daughter is more confident because of Girl Scouts.
recruitment event. There is no better time to be a Girl Scout. Speaking of time, grab your jacket, pull on a pair of hiking shoes, and spend some quality time in the great outdoors with your Girl Scouts. Visit an orchard and learn about its unique eco-system, explore the animal habitat that resides in a state park or camp out under the stars with thousands of fellow Girl Scouts at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during our Slumber at the Speedway event.
• 74 percent of parents say that because of Girl Scouts, their daughter has gained entrepreneurial and business skills.
Sincerely,
