Did you know?

Camp is awesome! Girls with more frequent outdoor experiences are more likely to seek challenges and are better at solving problems—qualities that will help them both academically and personally in the future.

Camp gives her cool new experiences! 72 percent of girls surveyed said that Girl Scouts gave them the chance to build their skills or try new outdoor activities.

Camp makes everything better! Spending time in nature improves concentration and creative reasoning. Outdoor experiences also help promote healthy social development and increase her selfesteem.

Girl Scout camping … is an experience that provides creative, educational opportunities in groups living in the outdoors. Its purpose is to use the Girl Scout Program, trained leadership, and the resources of the natural surroundings to contribute to each camper’s mental, social, physical and spiritual growth.

Day camp … is an experience for girls from different troops and groups to meet outdoors each day. Girls attend as individual campers and are placed in units according to their grade in the fall. Experience day camp and make new friends!

Resident camp … is a camping experience for girls to live in the outdoors for three or more days. Girls from different troops and groups sign up as individual campers and are placed in units according to their desired program activity. Girls and their counselors plan activities, taking advantage of the opportunities available to them.

Troops Love Camping (TLC) ... is an experience for the whole troop! Want to share summer camp with your Girl Scout friends? Then this is definitely for you! We will supply food, supplies, and activities for your troop.

Family camp ... is an experience for the whole family. Enjoy fun and excitment of the great outdoors with your parents/caregivers and sisters, brothers or other close relatives.

Camp Dellwood in Marion County is 141 acres of wooded farmland.

Six platform tent units and three buildings provide sleeping quarters for over 200 girls a week. A swimming pool permits summer waterfront activities. The camp is located approximately 10 miles west of downtown Indianapolis.

We recommend new day camp volunteers attend this open house to become familiar with the property.

Camp Gallahue consists of more than 800 acres of relaxing property in Brown County, near Morgantown.

The camp is located about 30 minutes northeast of Bloomington and just over an hour south of the Girl Scout Service Center at Indianapolis. The property includes beautiful hills, an abundance of trees, and a lake.

7865 E County Rd 300 N Poland, IN 47868 With its shady pines, sprawling grounds, and peaceful lake, Camp Na Wa Kwa embodies the tradition of Girl Scout summer camp. Located in Clay County, between Terre Haute and Bloomington, Na Wa Kwa boasts an array of fun outdoor activities, like swimming in the pool, exploring the lake canoeing, rock climbing, ziplining, hiking, archery, and fishing.

Sycamore Valley sits on 160 acres of land and is located on State Road 26, seven miles east of Lafayette on the Wildcat Creek. The two sleeping units include A-frame cabins (Unit 1) and eagles nests â&#x20AC;&#x201C; cabins on stilts (Unit 2). Sycamore Valley also has an in-ground pool with a shower house. Girls may participate in several different learning opportunities on our 37-foot climbing wall and 300-foot zip line, as well as our low ropes course.

Meet Katie Wahlstrom Camp director, Camp Dellwood Math and Science Center I have worked at Camp Dellwood for 13 years. During the school year I get to teach STEM at the Math and Science Center. This will be my third summer as Camp Director. I love that in the summer I get to enjoy camp with you! With the help of more than 200 amazing volunteers, we have a blast at Camp Dellwood; it is my favorite place to be.

Meet Jaime Hubbard Camp director, STEM camps I began working in summer camps over 20 years ago and fell in love with watching girls enjoy the freedom of learning for the sake of learning.

But, I also had a deep passion and love for STEM (science, technology, engineering and math.)

For the past nine summers I have been able to mix these loves together through leading Girl Scout STEM camps.

One of the most fun parts is that I often get to learn along side girls as they develop ways to utilize technology. Explore STEM camps, like an atom, they are positively fun!

Camp director, Camp Sycamore Valley This is my third summer as the director at Sycamore Valley. With 12 years of summer camp experiences, I enjoy sharing my passion for the outdoors with campers. Each summer, I love seeing the staff teach girls new things they are passionate about. My favorite campfire dish is a tie-I can't pick just one-between dumpcake and pancakes in a pudgie pie iron.

Send a girl to camp Camp scholarships It is our goal to continue to provide opportunities for girls who want to go to camp. Camp scholarships provide this life-changing experience for girls who may not otherwise be able to participate because of their economic circumstances. Contributions to camp scholarships make it possible for all girls throughout the 45 counties we serve to attend camp and have the same opportunities and experiences regardless of their ability to pay. In addition, camp scholarships help underwrite the cost of camp activities, keeping fees low for all girls.

After you visit and complete the requirements for a camp, you may purchase that camp's section of the patch. Wear the sections separately, or as you complete each section, piece them together to form the Camp Adventure patch.

Camp info

General Information Who may attend Girl Scout camp?

Camp sessions are open to all girls entering grades 1-12 in the fall regardless of race, color, creed, or national origin. The grades listed for each session are the grades that your daughters should be going into in the fall.

All girls who are registered Girl Scout members may attend. Girls who are no longer active in a troop or have never been members may attend camp by paying an additional fee of $20.* For girls with a chronic illness or disability, a written statement from her physician is required and must indicate the girl can participate in routine activities without harm to herself. *Includes Girl Scouts of the USA membership fee.

Please fill out the girl member registration form on page 66 as well as the camp registration form.

What if the weather is bad?

While at camp, every counselor is in touch with the camp director who has access to a weather radio. We are aware of any storms headed our way and have procedures in place to protect our campers. Some activities may be affected by weather, and in this case refunds are not issued.

Please keep in mind that there is only one phone line that does need to be kept open during inclement weather in case of emergency.

How can I prepare my camper?

It is important for parents to talk with their camper about what to expect at camp this summer. Be sure to emphasize the good time she will have. The American Camp Association has great resources for parents available at www.campparents.org.

May I visit my camper during camp?

Our camps are not open to parents, family, or other visitors during camp sessions so that we may provide a safe and secure environment for all participants. All participants and staff must be registered and all adults must have completed background checks prior to camp in order to attend.

Plan to visit the camps during the open house to see the units, staff and program areas.

Campers attending a Me & My Guy or Me & My Gal weekend camp should register using the Council Event Registration Form on page 92 in the Program Activity Guide Section of this booklet.

Can my daughter request to go to camp with a buddy?

Summer camp is about camping with friends, both old and new. Girls may request to stay in the same unit with one girl in the same session.

Please write the buddy’s name in the appropriate space on the application. Requests must be mutual and only one buddy will be honored.

Girls and parents should agree on their camper’s buddy. Mail in the two forms at the same time or we might not be able to place both girls in the same session. Troops are not guaranteed to be placed together, unless you are registering for Troops Love Camp at Na Wa Kwa. Troop members attending the same session are not guaranteed the same unit assignments. Campers attending Family Camp or Troops Love Camping should use the special Family Camp and TLC forms on page 61.

5. Any incomplete forms or registrations without payment will be returned. If forms must be returned to you for any reason, the receipt date for processing purposes will be based on the date in which complete forms and payment (or PAG form) is received in our office.

Camp confirmations will be emailed to all participants. Please do not call to check on placement.

Registering with a buddy •

Girls who want to sign up for a unit together must complete the Buddy Information section on the registration form and list each other’s name to guarantee placement together.

Limit one buddy. Buddy must be entering the same grade in the fall for day camp.

For resident camp, buddies must be in the grade listed for specific camps. (Troops are not guaranteed to be placed in the same unit, unless you are registering for Troops Love Camping.)

Multiple sessions There is no limit to the number of sessions each girl may attend (financial assistance is available for one session only.) A separate registration form is required for each session. Feel free to make copies of the form, download it from our website, or request a copy from a service center. There is no need to submit additional copies of the health history form.

Camp fees Full fee must be paid no later than May 31 for all camp dates. Failure to do so will result in loss of reservation.

Registration closes Registration closes two weeks before the beginning of each day camp session or when the session is full, whichever is first. Resident camp registration closes when sessions become full.

Refund procedure The camp fee does not cover the entire cost of your child attending camp. The remainder is covered by various funding sources that support Girl Scouts of Central Indiana. For this reason the refund policy is: •

Refunds are given only if cancellation is received at least two weeks prior to sessions.

Applying for financial assistance (PAG)

$25 of fee will be retained for handling charges.

Girl Scouts of Central Indiana is committed to providing a positive experience to every girl who wants to be a Girl Scout. Program Assistance Grants are provided so that a family’s economic status will not be a barrier to participation.

Bus fees are not refundable.

To apply, submit the Program Assistance Grant application with your camp registration form and health history form. A $10 deposit per girl is required to secure her placement. This deposit is not refundable unless your child cannot be placed into a session. Use a separate grant application per girl. Please do not mail in your PAG without your camp registration form. We cannot

Refund requests are only accepted through July 21.

Refunds are not given to no shows or campers leaving camp early due to personal reasons including homesickness, sports, family vacations, behavior, lice, etc.

Summer camping opportunities with Girl Scouts of Central Indiana Adventure is out there, what are you waiting for? There are many ways you can join the fun at summer camp. From a Journey camp on a college campus, to high adventure at a resident camp, to laughter and excitement at day camp; there is something for everyone!

There are also many opportunities for you to attend camp with a parent or favorite adult, your whole family or your entire troop.

If you are a Girl Scout in grades 1-12 (in the fall), you are welcome and encouraged to attend our camps! If you are not a Girl Scout, you are also invited to experience camp, too! Girls who are not current Girl Scouts will pay a fee of $40 per summer, which includes the Girl Scouts of the USA membership fee. This will allow girls to attend summer camp, as well as participate in Girl Scout program activities, such as the ones in this program guide, all year long. Adeventure awaits!

Please fill out the girl member registration form on page 66 along with the camp registration form on page 51.

Camp fees Girl Scouts of Central Indiana is committed to providing high-quality, affordable outdoor programming for girls. Thanks to the support of product sales and other funding to the council, we are able to keep the cost of camp sessions substantially lower than the actual cost.

Listed below are brief descriptions of each type of summer opportunity, along with answers to some frequently asked questions. Day camp Day camp is for all girls entering grades 1-7, and is a day-only experience for you to meet girls, just like you, who are excited and ready for adventure! Explore the outdoors with new friends for several days in the summer. Some camp activities will allow you to explore the great outdoors, and you will get to learn outdoor skills and about nature. Other experiences will happen indoors, and you will get to learn science or technology skills on a college campus.

There are many experiences availalble, and there is something for everyone! Some day camps offer bus transportation, and some do not. Some are week long experiences, and some are only a few days.

Attend camp as an individual camper, and you will be placed in a unit according to your grade in the fall.

Please remember this is not a troop activity and the entire troop will not be placed together in one unit. You can, however, request a ONE friend as a camp buddy. This is your chance to make new friends!

This is a perfect first camping experience if you have never spent a week away from home before, as you will be able to go home in the evenings. Several of the day camps offer an overnight option one night for girls to experience overnight camp with their unit.

At day camp, youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll try new craft projects, discover the wonders of the outdoors, explore nature, play games, experiment with science, math, and technology, make new friends and make lasting memories. Your unit will get to spend one night laughing, singing and in camp together.

If you take a bus to camp, bus transportation will not be offered Thursday night or Friday morning if you choose not to spend the night.

Day camp is a great way to build your courage, confidence, and character!

Depart camp

Every day at camp is filled with different adventures and fun experiences! The schedule above represents what a "typical day" at day camp looks like.

Day camp hours Day camp begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, unless otherwise noted. You will have the opportunity to spend one night (Thursday) at camp. On the overnight, you will sleep in a tent/ cabin with other girls. Adults will have separate sleeping quarters. Only registered adults volunteering the entire five days are allowed to stay for the overnight. Child care before and after hours is not provided.

Car transportation Parents/caregivers, plan to drive your daughter to and from camp. Campers must be dropped off at camp no earlier than 8:30 a.m. and picked up between 3:40-4 p.m. each day.

Older girl leadership at day camp Day camp aides have long been a part of the day camp experience. Day camp aides provide a variety of skills, talents and support to younger campers while continuing to develop their leadership skills in an adult supported and supervised environment.

Want to be a day camp aide this summer?

Follow these steps to lead girls to new experiences and have a fun summer: Attend a day camp aide-in-training week (for new day camp aides.)

The cost is $45. The fee of the training includes training materials, a day camp T-shirt and patch.

Camp Dellwood â&#x20AC;˘ Day Camp Aide-in-Training Session 1: June 5-9 Session 2: June 12-16 Session 3: June 19-20 Session 4: June 26-30 Camp Sycamore Valley Day Camp Aide-in-Training June 12-16 All trainings are Monday-Friday with an overnight on Thursday night. You must complete the entire week of training including the overnight to be qualified to become a day camp aide.

Experienced day camp aides and girls who have completed training may apply to be a day camp aide. Applicants may apply for a maximum of four sessions. The cost is $35 per session. The fee for day camp aides defrays transportation, meals and incidental expenses. The fee also includes a day camp T-shirt and patch. You must attend all five days, including the overnight.

Volunteer training

Do you enjoy the outdoors and have a passion for working with children? Volunteer at day camp!

Volunteers are the core of the day camp staff.

Without volunteers, this valuable learning experience would not be possible for the girls of central Indiana.

Interested parents and adults are invited to register.

All day camp volunteers must attend the pre-camp meeting for the session(s) you are assigned to. At this meeting, you will receive a day camp volunteer staff manual; receive unit assignments, unit lists, and unit schedules; learn about the specifics of the session; meet the people they will be volunteering with; and work with others to develop activities for your unit.

Volunteer selection The camping services department in consultation with the day camp directors approve all registrations.

The selection of staff is based on the qualifications of the applicant and the staffing needs of each session. For the safety of all campers, you must be physically able to stand for long periods of time and walk on rough terrain if you are interesting in volunteering. All volunteers must be registered Girl Scout members and complete a background check.

Day camp • Questions and answers What do I wear to day camp?

Old clothes are best and should include shorts or long pants, T-shirts or tank tops (no halters or midriffs), socks/shoes (closed-toe and no sandals), jacket or sweatshirt, raincoat or poncho if wet conditions are predicted.

Is there anything my camper can't have with her at day camp?

We do not allow any of the following so that girls are safe and they gain the full benefit of the camp experience: •

Electronic devices (including cell phones, tablets, electronic games and music playing devices)

Weapons, alcohol or tobacco products

•

Drugs (prescription and over-the-counter drugs must be turned in to the camp health supervisor)

What do I bring to day camp each day?

Bring these items daily to camp in a backpack or similar type of bag. Mark the bag with camper’s name, unit name, and bus stop name or “car rider.”

If my camper has a game/event, can I pick her up and return her at any time?

We do appreciate all campers remaining at camp for the entire day. It is disruptive to your camper and the other campers in her unit to pick girls up midway through the day and bring girls back.

If it is critical to take your camper out of camp, you will need to contact the camp director prior to or during check-in on the first day. Your camper will not be able to return to camp until 8:30 a.m. the next day. Please provide a note with the day, time, reason, and who will be picking up to the camp director on that day.

What do I bring if I am staying overnight on Thursday?

Some campers will be in tents, and others will be in cabins, depending on the camp and the age of the girl.

Bring these items to camp in a duffle bag or similar type bag on Thursday. Place all items in a trash or water-resistant bag that the camper can carry. Please label all bags with the following information (duct tape and a permanent marker works best):

Troops Love Camping Want to share summer camp with your Girl Scout troop? Join our staff and other troops for a fun filled troop camping experience! You and your troop will will stay for three days and two nights. This is perfect if your troop is new to outdoor experiences, or prefers to experience summer camp together. Participate in many hands-on activities and enjoy crafts, outdoor cooking, swimming and other camp experiences.

Your troop must provide its own leadership through parents, leaders, and other family members. All adults must be registered Girl Scouts. A minimum of two adults must be in camp at all times. At least one must be 21 years of age; others may be 18 or older. Your troop must meet the adult to girl ratio per Safety-Wise.

During your stay, we will provide activities, supplies and meals throughout the day and evening. Your leaders’ responsibility will consist of supervising your troop at various activities, escorting them to the different places in camp and providing programming during free time. Campus camps

Family or troop camp

These are either day or overnight experiences at a college or academy campus. Girls will engage in hands-on learning of skills such as coding, fashion design with electronics, or construction. Or girls may choose to explore leadership and get started on their Silver or Gold Awards at Journey University. No matter the program a girl chooses, she will experience campus life, engage with professors and college students, and get to explore new ideas and challenges.

This is an overnight experience for the entire family, just one parent or favorite adult, or the entire troop.

Specialty staff provide activities such as swimming, archery, crafts, nature, campfires, and other activities as noted in the program description. You can have your meals provided, or you can choose a program where you cook all your meals. Whichever program you choose, girls and their families or troops will get to have planned programming as well as free time to explore camp, work on badges, or hang out and enjoy the outdoors. Resident camp Ketchup! Ketchup sure is red. Gee I wish I stayed in bed! Are you ready for summer camp? Get ready for a summer you will never forget.

Resident camp is an experience filled with excitement, exploration, laughter, and friendship.

For more information about the many different resident camp experiences we offer, visit girlscoutsindiana.org.

Resident camp is an overnight experience where you will get to stay in a tent, cabin, lodge, or even a college campus for two nights or up to two weeks. Attend with a friend, “camp buddy," or by yourself. You will make new friends with lots of girls from across our 45 counties.

Troops and/or groups can sign up as individual campers and will be placed in units according to your desired session. You and your counselors will plan activities together, taking advantage of the unique opportunities available at each camp.

Summer camp staff are chosen carefully for their ability to work with girls and teach specific skills. All staff undergo a stringent interview and reference check, and must pass a background check. Camp staff also spend a week–or longer–learning the specific skills, safety, and procedures required by Girl Scouts.

If you have not spent the night away from home very often, you may want to try a shorter period of time for your first resident camp experience. If you are very outgoing or adventurous, regardless of your age, you may want to just jump right in with a full-week experience!

Resident camp Questions and answers What is camp life like?

All campers are expected to participate in all-camp kapers, including making their bed, maintaining their living area, and rotating responsibilities in the dining hall.

Each camper is also responsible for her own personal care and grooming. Campers will sleep either in a unit house with their counselors in a separate room nearby, or in platform tents with the counselors in their own tent in the unit. Campers are given a voice in planning all activities, which could include art projects, swimming, cookouts and campfire activities.

How may I contact my camper? May I visit or call her?

Parents and other family members may visit the camps during their designated open house. We do not accept visitors during resident camp as seeing a parent/ caregiver may spark homesickness in many campers. Also, because telephone calls from home tend to increase the likelihood of homesickness, we ask that you refrain from calling camp. We need to keep our phone lines available for business and emergency purposes. We also ask that you do not allow your daughters to bring a cell phone to camp. Parents are always welcome to call the camp director for an update on their daughter.

What health precautions are taken? Is a physical exam required?

All campers attending camp this summer must have a medical history form signed by their doctor or nurse practioner. Campers need to be seen by a doctor in the last 24 months. A resident camp health history and exam form will be included in the camper’s confirmation packet. As part of our check-in procedures, all campers must be seen at the infirmary on opening day. We will do a head check and discuss any special needs with

each camper. If your daughter is on medication, we will administer her medication as noted on the bottle.

Campers are required to turn in all medications, both prescribed and over-the-counter, in the original containers, to the health director on opening day.

What if my daughter has special needs?

At camp, we make every effort to allow all girls to enjoy our camp sessions. If you have concerns about your daughterâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s ability to participate in our camp, please call us before registering her for camp. For girls with a chronic illness or disability, a written statement from her physician is required and must indicate the girl can participate in routine activities without harm to herself. Routine activities include hiking at least two miles each day, living in a tent with steps, showering and changing clothes by herself, and walking up and down hills possibly in the dark with a buddy. If your daughter cannot do these activities without help, we can suggest other camp opportunities that she might enjoy.

Unfortunately, we cannot offer one-on-one helpers for campers.

Homesickness usually passes in a day or two.

Please do not be alarmed if the first letter you receive from your daughter reflects her feelings of homesickness. It was probably written at a low time, and by the time you receive it your daughter is having a great time playing with her new friends. Your encouraging attitude both before and during camp will help prevent homesickness. Please remember that campers who overcome homesickness have met a real challenge and can feel a sense of pride in themselves. If a camperâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s homesickness should persist, the parents/ guardians will be notified by the camp director. More information on homesickness will be mailed with confirmations. Campers do not have access to phones and may not bring cell phones.

How often do campers swim and shower?

Weather permitting, all campers have the opportunity to swim and shower every day of their session with the exception of opening and closing days.

Will my daughter need money at camp?

No, she will not have the opportunity to purchase anything while at camp. She will receive her T-shirt at the end of the session. If, however, your daughter is in a session that will be traveling out of camp, you may send extra money along with her. We ask that your daughter does not bring an excessive amount, as her needs will be taken care of while attending camp. The money you send may be spent on anything she wants.

What if my daughter gets homesick?

Because homesickness is common at camp, especially for first-time campers, our staff members are trained to provide a caring, supportive environment for your child.

Plus, activities like canoeing, archery, rock climbing, and zip lining make memories and friends to last a lifetime.

Me & My Gal Grades: All Enjoy spending time with a special female adult this summer, just the two of you! Swimming, archery, zip lining, s'mores, hiking, crafts, and canoeing are sure to make this a fun-filled weekend. You will stay in one of Camp Na Wa Kwa's five beautiful units. We have programs planned, but you are free to enjoy time together on your own.

Females Rock

Grades: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 Discover why females rock and why we make great leaders, all while having tons of fun and making new friends at camp! Challenge yourself on the low ropes course, face your fears by whizzing down the zip line, and learn how teamwork makes the dream work. Family camp at Na Wa Kwa July 7-9 Enjoy a quiet weekend at camp with your family!

Get away from the crowds, and enjoy the beautiful grounds at Camp Na Wa Kwa. Share a wonderful family experience, meet other Girl Scout families and make new friends! Staff-led activities are planned each day, but you are free to enjoy exploring camp on your own.

Lifeguards will be on duty at the swimming pool and for canoeing on the lake. Other activity options include the climbing wall, zip line, archery, and hiking along the fossil beds.

Upon check-in, you will receive a schedule of when these activities take place throughout the weekend.

Camp Ada consists of 78 acres of woods and rolling pasture in Henry County just south of New Castle. It is readily accessible from Interstate 70 for Girl Scouts throughout the council jurisdiction.

Camp Ada This summer we will offer two new sessions at Ada! Bring your troop for Troops Love Camp, and learn the basics of outdoor camping in the luxury of indoor cabins! Or if you are an older Girl Scout, and want to earn your Counselor in Training, come join us. During the first few days you will learn all the basics to be the best CIT ever and then the final three days apply your knowledge you just learned as you work directly with troops during TLC!

CIT Grades 10, 11, 12 Learn what it takes to be the best summer camp counselor! You must first attend this three day training to work at Camp Ada the following three days as a camp counselor for Girl Scout Brownie Troops Love Camping weekend. A wooded oasis on the west side of Indianapolis, Camp Dellwood contains over 140 acres of hiking trails, streams, meadows and forests. You can swim in the pool, enjoy archery, participate in experiments or nature activities at the Math and Science Center, or get fit on the fitness and play trail.

For all programs, confirmations, additional information, and directions to camp will be mailed to you after your registration is received.

Day camp at Camp Dellwood ... is an experience for girls from different troops and groups to meet outdoors each day, and have outdoor adventures! Fun and exploration are on the agenda every day as girls swim, sing, make crafts, play games, and more. Girls attend as individual campers and are placed in units according to their grade in the fall.

Lunches and snacks for each day will be provided. Thursday dinner, evening snack, and Friday breakfast are provided for those staying overnight. To ensure camper safety, food allergies and/or special diets cannot be accommodated. No discount can be provided if a camper does not eat the camp meals or snacks. Bus riders: Optional bus transportation is available and is included in the camp fee. Girls may attend the session of their choice. However, transportation will only be provided according to the day camp bus transportation schedule per camp. Information will come via email a few days before each session with bus stop times. Typical bus pick up times fall between 7:15-8:30 a.m., and drop off times fall between 3:30-4:45 p.m. Bus stop selection can not be changed after being submitted with the registration due to the safety of the girls. Please note that bus transportation is not available on Thursday afternoons or Friday mornings due to the camp overnight. No price adjustment will be given if a girl chooses not to participate in the overnight.

Car riders: parents may drive their daughter to and from camp. Campers must be dropped off at camp no earlier than 8:30 a.m. and picked up between 3:30-4 p.m.

Tag-a-longs If you are a registered day camp volunteer attending all week and have a younger child, she or he may enjoy participating in the tag unit.

Trained staff will provide activities on site for the child. Day camp volunteers can place a younger child in the tag unit for $40/child for the week.

This fee includes a day camp T-shirt, patch, daily snack, meals on all days, bus transportation, and supplies. This fee cannot be pro-rated if your child does not stay every day. The tag unit is for the children of volunteer day camp staff only.

Girls registering for the tag unit must be 3-5 years of age; girls who have completed kindergarten should register for day camp as a Girl Scout Daisy. Boys registering for the tag unit must be 3-8 years of age. All children registering for the tag unit must be out of diapers.

This training is highly recommended for first time adults planning to volunteer at Dellwood day camp this summer. Attending this training will orient you to Camp Dellwood, make you more familiar with your role at camp, and help you enjoy your volunteer week. We will take a walking tour of camp so you can learn your way around and recognize sites and landmarks. Receive hands-on training on equipment use, cleaning procedures and fire building. Dress appropriately

for training and hiking, and wear comfortable, closed-toed-shoes. Volunteers will also have to attend the pre-camp meeting for their specific session. Training will start at Camp Dellwood's Program Center.

Camp Gallahue has over 800 acres of beautiful Brown County hilltop vistas, cool valleys, beckoning forests and green meadows galore! Girls will love the enchanting lake and meandering streams, as well as the miles of hiking and horseback trails.

Resident camp at Camp Gallahue ... has something for everyone! Whether your favorite activity is sailing on the lake, trotting around the riding ring, hitting a perfect archery bullseye, or singing around the campfire, memories and friends will be made at Gallahue that will last a lifetime. Tents, cabins, Adirondack shelters and more house girls in rustic comfort for their weeks away from home.

Bring your parents, caregivers and friends to Camp Gallahue, and explore. Visit the lodge, and see where your meals are served; walk down to the lake to see our beautiful waterfront area. This day is the only time families are invited to walk around the camp, so don't miss this opportunity!

Parents are welcome to drive their campers to and from camp. Drop off and pick up times are:

Horseback riding Weather permitting, girls in one-week horse sessions will go riding in the ring two times. They will also have two ground lessons. Campers in Hoofprints will be split into four riding groups.

Each day, the groups will rotate through cleaning, tacking, and riding the horses. Each girl will have time to ride each day, not including opening day, closing day, and Sundays. Girls attending Ringmasters, and Mini Wranglers and Wranglers will also have time to ride each day. They will spend some of their time at the barn learning more advanced horse care and do some trail riding. Yearlings will not leave the riding ring.

Camp Gallahue Sunday drop off 2-4 p.m.

Friday pick up 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Bus transportation Optional bus transportation is available. Qualified public carriers transport girls to and from Camp Gallahue. The bus fee is $35 per person. This fee is non-refundable, not included in the camp fee, and is $35 regardless if the camper is utilizing the bus for one-way or round-trip transportation. The following bus stops are used for resident camp bus transportation. Please plan to arrive 15-20 minutes prior to pick-up and drop-off times. We will be conducting head checks before children will be allowed to board buses/vans. The buses must leave at the scheduled time to make it to the next stop on time. We will not be able to wait.

There is a minimum of four girls required for bus to and from camp. If there are not enough girls to order a bus, we will contact you.

Members of our camp staff are enthusiastic, talented, fun-loving and caring individuals. They are selected based on their experience, ability to serve as role models and their genuine desire to work with children. Our staff is committed to creating a caring and supportive environment that respects each girl as an individual.

Staff candidates are recruited from colleges and universities, local community agencies and referrals. Individuals must be at least 18 years old and complete a thorough application process which includes a background check. The health and safety of our campers is always the first priority of the staff.

Staff training prior to camp includes supervising and caring for campers, activity programming, first aid and CPR, team building and much more.

Horse units

Care and Keeping of Magical Creatures • 1 week

All camp sessions will swim every day; cookout, canoe and other types of boating along with the themed activities described.

Grades 5, 6, 7, 8 Do you know what a Bowtruckle is? Or a blastended Skrewt? What should you give a sick unicorn? This unit will help you earn your O.W.L. while also riding our horses! Enjoy the world of Harry Potter’s weird animals while spending time at our barns. By completing your O.W.L at camp you could become a magizoologist!

Weather permitting, all horse units will ride as scheduled.

Laundry facilities are not available. If you are attending two week camp, make sure you pack enough clothes for two weeks.

This camp takes place during the 4th of July.

We celebrate the 4th with a camp parade, a full day of camp games, a picnic dinner and fireworks from the beach. We have a great time on the 4th of July!

This is a two week camp. Girls stay over the weekend and parents are not permitted to visit. Also note, that there are not laundry facilities, so pack enough clothes to last for two full weeks.

Girl Scouts of Central Indiana offers a wide range of horseback riding programs aimed to help girls experience the joy and adventure of this exciting sport. Whether a girl dreams of being an Olympian, riding in rodeo, or simply loves to ride horses every summer, you will be taught in a safe and comfortable learning environment. Our instructors all have previous experience teaching horseback riding, and provide close and constant supervision during all aspects of the riding program.

Emphasis in all programs and levels is on skill development, progression and expanding knowledge of horses and horse care. Take part in the horse care and management by feeding, cleaning and grooming. Within your program, you will be placed in classes based on your skill level.

Classes are kept small with a ratio of at least one instructor to six campers. If you are in a riding program, you will also participate in other camp activities, too.

Buckmasters • 2 weeks Grades: 7, 8, 9 If you have mastered Hoofprints, you're ready for Buckmasters! Get more experience with riding, controlling and handling a horse. Learn skills for more advanced sessions in the future. Spend the morning with the horses and your afternoon at the lake doing crafts or achery.

Note: This is a horse unit where we teach horseback riding with other fun! $210 July 2-7

Hoofprints • 2 weeks Grades: 6, 7, 8 What could be better than being with a group of girls who love horses as much as you do?

Learn riding skills and how to care for horses.

Spend time each day grooming, tacking and riding horses! Experience bareback riding, bathing horses, confidence-building games, and competing in a fun show! Enjoy traditional camp activities like cooking out and swimming, too. $325 Session 1: June 4-16 Session 2: July 9-21

Mini Wrangler • 2 weeks Grades: 8, 9, 10 Let's hit the trails! If you have completed Hoofies and Ringmasters, you are ready for more trail riding with the horses. Be prepared to do overnight trips, as well as exploring trails within and surrounding Gallahue. You must be able to trot and handle a horse on your own.

Note: You must take the proficiency test at the Camp Gallahue open house on Sunday, May 21, 2-5 p.m. The Mini-Wrangler proficiency test includes control of the horse at a walk, trot, and canter; hands, body position, saddle; and bridle a horse, seat and leg.

Starry Nights • 1 week

Grades: 2, 3, 4, 5 Are you horse crazy? Explore the world of horses at this beginner horse session for younger girls. Ride twice, and learn all about horses. Participate in other camp activities like swimming, art projects, and cooking out. This unit will stay in Hillcrest, our indoor facility with three wings, electricity and flush toilets.

Session 1: June 11-16

Grades: 7, 8, 9 Spend your days and nights with our horses! Rise early in the morning to assist in feeding the horses, and spend the morning riding around camp. As the sun sets in the evening, head back to the arena to say goodnight to the horses. We will camp out one night with the horses on the trail and another night at the barn in the corral. With midnight snacks and plenty of horseback riding opportunities, you are guaranteed to have a great week with new friends.

Ringmasters • 2 weeks Grades: 7, 8, 9, 10 Ringmasters is for girls who have completed Hoofprints and are interested in becoming more independent with the horses. Learn to canter, trail ride and become more familiar with the care of a horse. Trailblazers • 2 weeks Grades: 7, 8, 9 Have you already been to Hoofprints and Ringmasters, but aren't quite old enough for Mini Wranglers? In this session, work on more trail riding skills, as well as more advanced riding in the ring. Play games on horseback and compete in a fun show! $325 June 25-July 7

WIT (Wrangler in Training) Grades: 12 This is a counselor in training at the barn. If you always wanted to work at our barn with the horses or in one of the horse units, this is the training for you.

Wranglers • 1 week Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12 If you loved the Mini Wranger trip and can't wait to spend more time on a horse, this is it! Spend a week away at camp bonding with your horse, trail riding, eating on the trail, and participating in a cattle drive. Enjoy a hayride, bonfire party and relax!

Note: Successful completion of the pre-camp proficiency test is mandatory for admittance into the session. You must take the test at the Camp Gallahue open house on May 21, 2-5 p.m. $325 June 18-23

Saddle Club • 1 week Grades: 5, 6, 7, 8 Like horses but not ready to come to camp for two weeks? In this session, you will have two ground lessons in which you will learn the basics of caring for a horse, and two riding lessons to use that knowledge. Enjoy all the other camp activities, too while getting to know your favorite camp horse!

Camp Gallahue Trip camp sessions Coaster Crazy • 1 week

Jamboree at the Summit • 1 week

Grades: 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 Take a trip with us to King’s Island and Cedar Point to ride as many roller coasters as you can! We will camp out during the week and make our way to Kelly’s island in Lake Erie to spend time camping and exploring the other island of Put-in-Bay. What a great way to end your summer!

Grades: 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 Take a trip to West Virginia to a camp near the New River Gorge National Forest. High adventure amenities are abundant at this camp---zip lining, challenge courses, rock climbing, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, BMX bike riding and so much more. This trip unit is a little different; the girls will come to camp Gallahue on Sunday June 25th and leave for West Virginia on June 27th but the girls will come home on Sunday July 2nd. You will pick them up from camp that afternoon.

Grades: 2, 3, 4, 5 Each day at camp is the best day ever!

Experience sending your lighted lantern into the sky like Rapunzel from Tangled, learn archery like Merida from Brave and ride a horse like Mulan.

Camp Explorers • 1 week Grades: 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 Sample all you the fun things you can do at Camp Gallahue. Explore the trails, lake and even the barn. Catching Fire • 1 week Grades: 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 It’s the 75th Hunger Games Quarter Quell, and you are one of the tributes competing to be the victor! When you arrive at camp, you will be assigned your district and receive special training to help you compete in the Hunger Games. Clue • 1 week Grades: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 Experience the classic detective game at camp!

In our version, you will go from one area of camp to another searching to solve the mystery of who done it, with what, and where? As you go to your camp activities, you will be solving the mystery.

Hit the archery targets for clues, or ride a horse to get a clue, look in the canoes for the culprit.

Finish the week by catching the culprit, returning the stolen item and saving camp! $195 June 11-16

Color Wars • 1 week Grades: 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 Are you ready for color wars? Each girl is placed on a team and wears a specific color headband or wristband to help everyone know which team she is on. Grades: 2, 3, 4, 5 There is trouble in Fairyland, and we need your help! Where is Cinderella’s slipper, and who hid it? Can you help us find the slipper? Where did he leave his treasures? Finally, Snow White has invited us to make caramel apples for a campfire dessert! There is a lot to do in fairyland at camp!

Grades: 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 These have been trying times ever since the zombies came. As a Ranger it is your job to protect your unit and stop the zombie invasion.

For the time being, there may be few and far between, but we all know, the infection can quickly spread. Your counselor’s will teach you awesome survival training in preparation for the zombie apocalypse. They teach you the skills vital for your survival in this brave new world of the undead: archery and zombie combat, wilderness survival, and stealth and invisibility. Learn to make a smokeless fire, safely harvest wild edible plants and build invisible shelters the zombies will never find. Plan your Bug Out Bag. Gain the experience to not only to survive, but thrive. $195 July 16-21

Enjoy the lovely hills and valleys of Camp Gallahue. This beautiful resident/troop camp is located in Brown County.

Hills of Gallahue trail – provides a rugged seven and a half-mile trail through the hills of Brown County. After hiking the trail, The Hills of Gallahue patch is available for purchase from any Girl Scouts of Central Indiana Showcase.

Lifeguards will be on duty at the waterfront for swimming, canoeing, open kayaking, and fishing.

Hillcrest – three wings; each wing has either 12 or 14 beds, private restrooms, showers, and modern kitchen.

Fee per wing: $125 Four tent units – units consist of a large activity cabin with ten nearby platform tents for sleeping and pit latrines. Cabins have modern kitchens and substantial activity space to be shared by families staying in the unit, for get-together, cooking, etc.

Fee per family $60

Someone in the family must be a registered Girl Scout member. A family consists of individuals living in the same household.

Each family must bring their own equipment and food. No campers, trailers, or motor homes, no hookups. No pets, smoking or alcohol allowed.

No refunds for family camp weekends.

Girl Scouts of Central Indiana Grants are given for individual girl or troop participation in Girl Scouts of Central Indiana and Girl Scouts of the USA endorsed events such as GSUSA national and international Destinations, resident and day camp, and council, service unit, or troop program activities. Grants are only given to registered Girl Scouts. Adults are not eligible to apply.

Financing is seldom more than matching funds with the exception of extreme need and or unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of the applicant.

The grant committee will look at the following factors when evaluating a grant request.

The application request is based on a realistic goal and includes a sound financial plan.

•

The financial resources of the applicant, including any special circumstances.

•

The degree to which the applicant has used her own resources to help pay for the cost of the opportunity.
