Find Potato!

Potato, our Camp Dean mascot, was so excited for Girl Scout summer camp to begin that she ran off into Little Book! Search through Little Book and see if you can find her! If you find Potato, send us an email with “I Found Potato!” in the subject line to dean@girlscoutsni.org. Be sure to include the page number where you found Potato and girl’s full name! Contest open to GSNI Girl Scouts only. Emails received by July 15, 2020, will be entered in a random drawing to win a camp prize pack for summer 2020! In the meantime, follow Potato on instagram.com/gsni_potato!

Summer is a time of transition for girls who are bridging to a new level of Girl Scouts. For this reason, events in the summer are available to girls for the level they’ve just ended or the level they’re just beginning, unless otherwise noted. If you have questions about whether a specific event is appropriate for your troop or girl, contact our Customer Care team.

What’s New? You spoke; we listened! We have made many changes based on camper and family feedback, suggestions, lessons learned, and more! As always, thank you for the ideas.

Here’s a preview of what we changed for Summer Camp 2020: Registration Opens in January. That’s right! Registration for summer camp will open on January 6, 2020! Mark your calendars, as spots will fill quickly. Resident Camp Age Requirement. In order to bring excitement and change to campers, GSNI camp programs are structured around progression of skills. The minimum grade requirement for campers to attend resident camp at Camp Dean is entering second grade and up with the recommendation of entering third grade and up for full-week resident camp sessions. Registration Deposit. The deposit required for session registration is $100. Pricing. Pricing is changed to one flat fee! This supports the camp program and gives girls a more fulfilling experience. This new fee covers some of the direct costs associated with your camper’s experience but is still a subsidized rate. Financial Assistance. Families may only apply for financial assistance once per the 2020 season. Multiple financial assistance requests will be reviewed, and the amount allotted will be allocated throughout the sessions attending. Only registered members of GSNI can apply for financial aid. Balance and Paperwork Deadline. In order to provide the best camp experience and prepare for the upcoming session, remaining balances for all camp sessions are due May 1, 2020. Failure to pay remaining balance by May 1, 2020, will forfeit your reservation for the camp session. In addition, all paperwork for each camp session will be due online by June 1, 2020. Emailing paperwork early ensures we can prepare for your camper’s arrival. Day Camp Overnight. The Thursday overnight for day campers will continue to be limited to 14 campers at Camp Dean as campers will stay in lodges. Registration for Day Camp Overnight must be completed two weeks prior to camp session! Registration will not be processed on camp property. Any last-minute registrations must be completed at a local GSNI Resource Center. Counselor-in-Training Apprentice. We are no longer offering the CITApprentice sessions. Any Cadette Girl Scout seeking Program Aid Basic and Outdoor Training should contact her local GSNI resource center for council-sponsored trainings. CIT and CIT Leadership programs are offered for Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts in grades 9–12.

Paying for Camp Camp is an amazing adventure for girls! We want to make sure any girl can attend camp at GSNI and offer several ways to offset the cost of camp: ▶▶ If you register by April 1, 2020, you can save $25 on most camp registrations! ▶▶ You can use GSNI vouchers/eCodes toward any council-sponsored camp session. However, these cannot be used toward the initial $100 non-refundable deposit. Vouchers/eCodes include: Adventure Allowance ($10) for anyone in your household who renewed their 2020 Girl Scout membership online by June 15, 2019, Cookie Dough, Cashew Cash, and S’more Dough (for Individually Registered Members) earned through the Girl Scout Fall Product and Cookie Programs. These may not be used for the deposit or adult camp fees (for family camp). ▶▶ If the session you desire to attend is full, contact Customer Care at customercare@girlscoutsni.org to be added to a waitlist. A limited number of Camperships are also available. Please see our Camperships section.

Camp Registration Information Registration for all summer camps will be on a first-come, first-served basis, beginning January 6, 2020. Registrations are received in a variety of ways, including: ▶▶ PREFERRED METHOD guaranteeing registration into the camp session. ▶▶ Online at http://www.girlscoutsni.org/activities ▶▶ The methods below do NOT guarantee registration into the camp session. Registration will be confirmed via email once registration is received and payment is complete. ▶▶ By mail to GSNI, ATTN: CAMP REGISTRATION, Rockford Resource Center, 1886 Daimler Road, Rockford, Illinois 61112 ▶▶ In-person at any GSNI Resource Center ▶▶ Scanning and emailing registration to customercare@girlscoutsni.org; use subject line CAMP REGISTRATION

Deposit A $100 deposit is required for each session/person registered. Deposits may be cash, check, or credit card. Financial Assistance (Camperships) or eCodes (Adventure Allowance/Cookie Dough/S’more Dough/Cashew Cash) cannot be used as deposits. Family camps and extra adventures must be paid in full at time of registration.

Balance Due/Required Paperwork All balances are due to a GSNI Resource Center by May 1, 2020. Failure to pay remaining balances prior to camp start date will forfeit camper’s registration. In order to prepare for her arrival, all camper paperwork will be completed online via CampDoc. Paperwork is due no later than two weeks prior to camp session. Campers will not be allowed to attend camp without prior delivery of camp paperwork.

Camperships If your girl would love to attend camp as a camper but doesn’t have the resources to do so, we may be able to help! Families can apply for Camperships by paying the initial $100 deposit for camp and submitting a Campership application. Campership applications are due by March 1, 2020, and awards are granted after March 15, 2020. We recommend you send in the application as soon as you submit your online registration. Financial assistance is available only to registered members of GSNI. Applications will not be processed without the deposit and registration form. Extra adventures, day camp overnights, CIT programs, and family camps are not covered by Camperships. Due to third party stable fees, camp sessions related to horses will be eligible for camperships offered as a discount on the total camp session cost. Families can only apply for financial assistance once per the 2020 season. If you wish to receive financial assistance for multiple sessions, one amount will be allotted and allocated across multiple sessions. Selecting “Need Financial Assistance” on the Camp Registration form does NOT register you for financial assistance. Please remember, the best way to pay for camp is to fully participate in the Girl Scout Fall Product and Cookie Programs! For more information or to apply for a campership, please visit www.girlscoutsni.org/camperships.

Cancellation Policy If a session or event does not meet the minimum registration as of the deadline date, GSNI reserves the right to cancel. Notice will be made by email. REFUND PROCEDURE: A full refund of the fee (including deposit) is made ONLY if a participant can’t be placed in the event of her choice or if it is necessary for GSNI to cancel an event.

Camp Information Refunds Deposits, extra adventure fees, and family and troop camp fees are non-refundable. A full refund, including deposit, is made only if a camper cannot be placed in a program or if it is necessary to cancel the program. No refunds will be made for campers arriving late, leaving early, attending only part of the program, or for those who fail to attend. Contact Customer Care to obtain a Refund Request Form. After camp ends, partial refunds may be considered on a case-by-case basis and only in the case of extenuating family circumstances or medical reasons supported by a doctor’s statement. Summer Camp Staff

For a full unplugged experience, campers and staff live outdoors in groups called units. Sleeping arrangements may include platform tents, Adirondacks, or one-room cabins. Staff members sleep in the units in separate accommodations from the girls. Meals are well-balanced with choices for healthy alternatives and served family-style in the dining hall. Campers will also cook meals outdoors with their units.

Do you or someone you know want to make a difference in girls’ lives at our summer camps? Do you have the enthusiasm to present your best self, a great attitude, and dedication to providing challenges, learning experiences, and a summer our girls will never forget? Critical to the success of summer camp is finding and hiring the right staff! Staff members can be high school graduates, college students, teachers, stay-at-home parents, retired persons, and so much more! We are looking for summer staff with passion, drive, grit, amazing personalities, and willingness to learn Girl Scout songs, traditions, and leadership skills! Our paid training may include outdoor skills such as cooking, fire building, archery, crate stacking, small watercraft, lifeguarding, and more. Imagine what your resume could look like by the end of summer! To learn more and view all our summer camp positions, visit www.girlscoutsni.org/summerstaff. Staff must be 18 years old prior to the first day of training.

Program Changes

Camp Volunteers

Although rare, the Girl Scout council, for a variety of reasons, may occasionally cancel a camp session. If this occurs, you can expect the entire camp fee, including the deposit, to be refunded. Other times, certain activities described in the camp sessions must be suspended or changed due to circumstances beyond our control, such as inclement weather, equipment availability, and staffing. In these situations, we may provide alternate program options. Under circumstances of this type, refunds should not be expected.

Volunteers help us provide girls with an exceptional camp experience! Whether it’s painting new signs for the cabins, helping in the greenhouse, assisting with programming, or being a guest speaker, GSNI volunteers are vitally important to the success of summer camp. Volunteer opportunities are flexible—from a couple hours to a few days—you can help as little or as much as you’d like! If you would like more information about volunteering at camp, contact Customer Care, or visit us online at www.girlscoutsni.org/campvolunteer.

Campers with Disabilities The goal of our camps is to provide a successful experience for all girls. Please communicate with our Customer Care team about campers with any special needs or disabilities. This enables our camp staff to make every effort to accommodate those needs.

Camp Leadership Camp is a perfect opportunity to take on a leadership role and be a role model for younger girls! Girl Scouts is the premiere leadership organization for girls, and camp provides unlimited options to hone leadership skills. The Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program is a great way to learn about leadership, group dynamics, outdoor skills, program planning, and more.
