What is GSNI? Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois At GSNI, we believe every girl can change the world! With us, Girl Scouts develop the independence and confidence to guide their own lives and make the world a better place. We put girls in the driver’s seat and encourage them to customize their own
experience! Every girl has the opportunity to unlock her own potential and be amazing through programs focused on the outdoors, career and interest exploration, travel and the global community, and practical life skills.
Individually Registered Program - Juliette Girl Scout Girl Scouting can be custom-made just for YOU! Juliette Girl Scouts are girls who are Individually Registered Members. They are busy, independent, and self-confident girls who want to be part of something bigger than themselves! As an Indie Girl Scout, you can have an awesome time doing a Badge Explorer, choosing Big Book activities, giving community service, participating in Girl Scout Cookie and Fall Product Programs, attending local service unit activities, and going to camp. You’ll decide what activities you’ll join, what skills you want to learn, and which recognitions and awards you want to complete, all at your own pace. Any girl in grades K-12 can join Girl Scouts as an Indie Girl Scout. It’s a way to stay connected, complete badges or Journeys, and attend events in your area!

Juliette Registration Juliette Girl Scout Programs for all Age Levels Any girl in grades K-12 can choose her adventure in Girl Scouts! Whether she wants to sign up for an exciting series of events, explore the outdoors, or travel the world, each level has something just for her! Girl Scout Brownies earn badges and explore their community. Friendship, fun, and age-appropriate actvities begin individually and then move out to the community and wider world. While earning badges, they build skills, learn hobbies, and have fun!

How to Register for Events
Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), our national organization, requires a $25 non-refundable, nontransferrable annual fee to register as a girl or adult member. This payment goes directly to GSUSA headquarters in New York to provide program development and council support services. Registered members are covered by GSUSA’s accident insurance when participating in Girl Scout activities. Financial assistance is available for membership dues for girls who are unable to pay. In this way, we are committed to providing all girls the opportunity to participate in Girl Scouts. Parents, guardians, and other adults are also invited to become members of the Girl Scout Movement!
Registration and payment may be: • Completed online at www.girlscoutsni.org/ activities, unless otherwise noted. • Mailed to: Rockford Rescource Center, 1886 Daimler Road, Rockford, IL 61112. • Called in to 844-GSNI-4-ME. • Hand-delivered to any GSNI Resource Center during regular business hours.
Financial Assistance
Event Confirmation
Financial Assistance is available to girls to provide for membership dues and official Girl Scout uniforms. Summer camp also has financial assistance available. A limited amount of event financial assistance is available and girl participants may request up to $15 twice per membership year for event financial assistance. Requests are considered in the membership year the event is being held, not the date submitted. If requesting financial assistance for an event, please submit a completed financial assistance request with the event registration form. The financial assistance request form may be found on www. girlscoutsni.org/forms.
A confirmation will be emailed to all participants shortly after the closing registration date. If you have not received a confirmation three days prior to the event, please contact Customer Care at 844-GSNI-4-ME or customercare@girlscoutsni.org.
Registering online is the fastest way to ensure your spots are secured! Paper registrations are entered in the order they are received, and there my be a delay in this process during peak times. Registrations much be received by the deadline date. No spots will be held without payment.
Event Cancellation If an event does not meet the minimum registration by the deadline date, GSNI reserves the right to cancel the event. Participants will be notified via email.
Please remember the best way for girls to fund their own experience in Girl Scouts is through participation in the Girl Scout Fall Product and Cookie Programs. For more information, call 844-GSNI-4-ME.
The Girl Scout Uniform Uniforms are an important part of the Girl Scout experience, connecting girls to Girl Scout traditions, displaying their accomplishments, and creating memories to last a lifetime. Girls want to look and feel their best when
representing Girl Scouts. Uniforms must be worn for parades, flag ceremonies, and official occasions, and are encouraged whenever possible. You can purchase sashes or vests, and insignia from one of the rescource centers. Financial assistance for uniform components is available for girls that qualify.

What is the Girl Scout Program? At Girl Scouts, girls have tons of fun, make new friends and go on fantastic new adventures. Our program centers on something called the Girl Scout Leadership Experience - a collection of activities and experiences girls have as they complete journeys, earn badges, sell cookies, go on exciting trips, explore the outdoors, and do Take Action projects that make a difference.

Juliette Service Projects Camp Service Days Free Event | Registration required Camp Dean, Big Rock, and Camp McCormick, Stillman Valley Enjoy a day at camp and help us prepare the property for the season ahead! Families are invited to join other camp fans in making a difference to the Girl Scout outdoor experience. Activities may include sprucing up buildings, assembling/disassembling platform tents, or assisting in storing camp equipment. You are welcome to bring you own sack lunch to enjoy on our camp grounds. Camp Service Days are a great way for girls to serve at the council level! Camp Service Days are on the same days (back-to-back) as our Camp Open Houses!

Preferred Partners are businesses, organizations, and experts in our communities that offer quality events and activities designed specifically for the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) and offered only to Girl Scouts. Fun Fact: 80% of girls demonstrated interest in and knowledge of travel, including going to new places, a desire to meet new people, learning things, exploring new interests while traveling, and knowing how to plan for a trip.
Destinations Girl Scout Destinations are the ultimate travel adventure for Juliette Girl Scouts, ages 11–18, although age requirements vary from trip to trip. Each year, Destination sponsors (Girl Scout councils and travel groups) offer different trips providing amazing opportunities for girls! Girls will make Girl Scout friends from all over the world as they experience inspiring, life-changing travel within the United States and abroad. Girls submit their applications and are approved by event sponsors. Whether girls are interested in cultural experiences, conservation efforts, career exploration, or participating in a service project, check out the GSUSA Destination web page! Travel opportunities will be posted by midSeptember, 2018. Round 1 applications are due midNovember, 2018, and final Round 2 applications are due the beginning of February, 2019. Day Camp
Girl Scout camps offer many ways for girls to gain independence, try new skills, make new friends, and create memories for a lifetime! Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois operates four camps: Mary Ann Beebe Center (Harvard), Camp Dean (Big Rock), Camp Far Horizons (Hanover), and Camp McCormick (Stillman Valley).
If campers are ready to come home after a full day at camp, then Day Camp is the perfect option! Each camp offers exciting activities for the week, including nature exploration, arts, and swimming. Our trained staff is available to guide girls through all the camp activities for their level!
Resident Camp
Volunteer-led Camps
Our resident camps offer a variety of fun experiences and adventures for girls! Trained camp staff will provide opportunities for campers to participate in swimming, arts and crafts, cooking over a campfire, and hiking! Campers will stay overnight in sleeping cabins and explore camp during the day!
Trained GSNI volunteers create GSNI-approved day and twilight camps throughout the council! Activities could include forest exploration, outdoor cooking, archery, swimming, and more! Volunteer-led camps are often a great opportunity for Program Aides to help out, too!

Camp McCormick
Camp Dean www.girlscoutsni.org/dean Camp Dean has 160 acres of wetlands, woodlands, and prairies for campers to explore! Located in Big Rock, about an hour west of Chicago, it offers a unique camp setting for girls that is far enough for adventure and independence but still feels close to home. Facilities include three program centers, platform tent and sleeping cabin units, grassy sport fields, outdoor pool, private pond, trails, creek, dining hall, health center, and camp office.
Camp Far Horizons www.girlscoutsni.org/farhorizons Camp Far Horizons is near the Mississippi River in Hanover, about 30 minutes southeast of Galena, and has over 235 acres of woods and many nature trails. Camp facilities include a main lodge (heated), craft and nature tents, archery range, crate stacking, rappelling tower, and gaga ball pit. Girls sleep in screened-in platform tents in units that can shelter from 12–36 girls. Each unit is equipped with a wash stand, running water, latrines, and a fire ring.

www.girlscoutsni.org/mccormick Camp McCormick encompasses almost 400 acres of woods and meadows and is located a few miles south of Rockford, about an hour and a half northwest of Chicago. Camp facilities include an outdoor pool, indoor pool, showers, hiking trails, covered wagons, Adirondacks, and platform tents. All units have latrines and washstands. Camp McCormick also features indoor heated lodging such as Friendship Center, Troophouse, and Greenwood.
Mary Ann Beebe Center www.girlscoutsni.org/MABC Located between Woodstock and Harvard, Mary Ann Beebe Center has nearly 300 acres of wetland, prairie, and woods. There is a small pond, yurt, covered wagons, and Adirondack units. There is plenty of open grass area for large numbers of pitched tents. All units have latrines and water.

Girl Scouts who are very active make a difference in their communities. To earn this award, girls choose a community organization to work with (check with Customer Care for approved organizations), receive instructions, and complete at least 20 hours of service.**
There are two steps to earn this award – complete one journey and serve for one full term in a leadership position.

GSNI is excited to offer two new organized service events for Girl Scouts this year: ▶▶ Saturday, March 16, 2019 – Making Hunger the History of Tomorrow at Feed My Starving Children ▶▶ Saturday, April 13, 2019 – Global Youth Service Day at Northern Illinois Food Bank.
Girls at this level often volunteer to help at special events at the service unit or council level with younger girls or other special projects. Once a girl completes at least 20 hours of service, she is eligible to earn this award. **

Summit Award This award is earned by completing three Journeys in a level.
Bridging Award Girls earn this award by completing two steps— Pass It On and Look Ahead.

Safety Award Each Girl Scout level has its own set of requirements to teach girls how to stay safe at home, at school, and in their community. As girls get older, they share what they have learned with younger girls and develop safety plans to share with families and friends.

Girl Scout Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards Girl Scout Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards The Girl Scout Bronze Award, Silver Award, and Gold Award are Girl Scouting’s highest honors. To receive these awards, girls must meet requirements and complete special projects benefiting their communities. As girls pursue their awards, they put the Girl Scout Promise and Law into action!
The Girl Scout Bronze Award This award recognizes Girl Scout Juniors who have gained the leadership and planning skills required to follow through with a project that makes a positive difference in their communities!
The Girl Scout Silver Award Going for the Girl Scout Silver Award, the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette can earn, gives girls the chance to show they are leaders who are determined and dedicated to improving their community. Cadettes can begin to work on their Girl Scout Silver Award once they complete a Cadette Journey.
The Girl Scout Gold Award The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn! It focuses on a personal journey through leadership skills and service. Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors are eligible to earn the Girl Scout Gold Award. This prestigious award gives young women an advantage when applying to colleges and for financial scholarships. Gold Award Girl Scouts are also raised one rank in any of the U.S military branches! 11
Juliette Product Program Girl Scout Product Programs for Juliettes Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois offers two annual product programs that Indie Girl Scouts can fully participate in: • Girl Scout Fall Product Program • Girl Scout Cookie Program Juliette Girl Scouts will receive program materials, take orders, submit orders, and pick up products for delivery at her service unit or local GSNI Resource Center. Juliette Girl Scouts can also earn recognitions, such as fun patches, S’more Cash, Cashew Cash and Cookie Dough(in lieu of troop proceeds)—vouchers which can be used to support Girl Scout service projects, activities, and other girl-led adventures!
All cookie proceeds remain local! For every box of cookies sold by a GSNI Girl Scout through the cookie program, approximately 50% supports all GSNI council programs and properties, 22% supports local troops through troop proceeds and girl rewards, and 28% covers the cost to the baker for cookies, delivery, software support, and marketing development.
