Winter Issue

Issue 1, Edition 1, Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois

As our new year begins, we’re all busy making plans and would like to get your thoughts from time to time. We would appreciate your participation in short surveys that will be coming your way. We want to make sure your opinion is heard!

Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois is Thankful for our Many Donors! Thank you to the McCleary and Shaff families who have a long history with GSNI. Their family’s multi-year funding commitment in support of the McCleary Schaff Lodge at Camp Dean provided needed funding to make the cabins a reality. The new All-season cabins are part of GSNI’s ongoing Long Range Property Plan and include quality heating and air conditioning, comfortable sleeping quarters, two flushing toilets, a full kitchen, and cabin furnishing. Thank you to the dozens of other donors who contributed to the Buy-A Bunk, Fund-A Fridge, and Fill the Cabins campaigns, ensuring the cabins are complete and ready to accommodate Girl Scouts! Thank you to the GSNI staff who generously gave for the Staff Giving Campaign raising a little over $6,500!

GSNI’s theme for Giving Tuesday is “healthy Girls” and all donations go to support programming for girls’ mental health, physical health, body image, Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention and building healthy relationships. Our goal: We want to raise $10,000. More on Page 2.

Thank you to Thin Mint Sprint runners, sprinters, walkers, and donors! At the time of this writing, you have pushed us close to our goal of $5,000 for this year. See Page 3 for more results!

It’s Giving Tuesday. Invest in a Girl-Led Future Today. At Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois (GSNI), we believe in every girl’s power to change the world. That’s why, during this year of continued challenges, we’ve doubled down on what’s at the center of everything for us: girls. Girl Scouts develop the competencies, positive values, and strong sense of self to do big things, as well as the grit and strength that are essential to solving both every day and once-a-century challenges. That’s the Girl Scout difference. Here in Northern Illinois, we believe in every girl’s power to change the world.

Girls need GSNI as they seek connection, build relationships, and use this life-changing time to build a better tomorrow for everyone. On November 30, we’re participating in Giving Tuesday, a Global Day of Unity and giving. By investing in GSNI, you will support girls in gaining the tools they need to meet today’s problems with bold solutions and create a better, brighter tomorrow. Your support amplifies girls’ abilities to improve the world, regardless of their backgrounds, locations, or financial situations. This year, our goal is to raise $10,000 to support “Healthy Girls” – program-

“I give to Girl Scouts, because it is one of the few organizations that is open-ended or girl-led. All badges, activities, and camp experiences are not prescribed steps and create true critical, creative thinking. It’s truly Girl Scout magic that cultivates young Daisies into incredible, amazing, and conscientious leaders.” ~Erin Berry, Troop Leader and Girl Scout Parent

Give.Help.Repeat. What does it cost to build a girl into a leader, to give her the confidence to take chances, or to give her the tools she needs to fight adversity? A girl can benefit from an entire year of the Girl Scouts Leadership Experience , focused on these critical character traits, for the price of just one cup of coffee each week. Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois is challenging YOU to “Pass on the Coffee!” We are calling out to all community stakeholders to join us by giving up *one* cup of coffee each week and donate that $5 per cup toward the year-long girl Scout experience with proven results. As a member of G.H.R. you will be invited to enjoy special perks and benefits through out the year as well as a special gift! You will be the first members of this elite group that will help us grow both in membership as well as the number of girls that we can help. We invite you to “Pass on the Coffee” so we can continue to build girls into strong leaders in their communities. To “Pass on the Coffee” and join Give. Help. Virtual Thin Mint Sprint Tough times were no match for the Tough Cookies who ran in GSNI’s second annual Virtual Thin Mint Sprint! Thin Mint Sprint is GSNI’s longest-running fundraiser - supporting the mission of breaking down financial barriers that keep girls from participating in Girl Scouts. Over 120 people signed up online to choose their own course, set their own pace, and win their own race! This year, we joined forces with Fox River Grove Running Club who hosted Catch the Cookie! Troop 796 out of Lake Zurich hosted a family

run with girls’, parents, and siblings all running together and Troop 796 ran their race at Peck Farm in Geneva for a fun group event! We are grateful to our 2021 Thin Mint Sprint Sponsors – Members Alliance Credit Union and GSNI Volunteer Board of Directors for both their financial and community support. Thank you! We hope to hold both an in-person and virtual Thin Mint Sprint in the fall of 2022. See you in the fall!

Thank you to all who participated! 3
