Take the Lead Girl Program Opportunities Take the Lead is GSEP’s signature fundraising event honoring our community’s most distinguished women whose leadership and professional achievements make the world a better place. Girl Scouts can be a part of this exciting evening in a number of ways! Girls will learn about leadership and be inspired by our incredible honorees. Please see page 70 on the other side of this guide to learn more about Take the Lead. Did you know that GSEP’s Girl Scouts can also participate in Take The Lead? There are a variety of roles available for girls in grades 2-12. Do you like to sing? Do you have the gift of gab? Is social media your thing? Or, are you looking for a leadership opportunity and a chance to learn from one of the amazing Take The Lead Honorees—there is something for every Girl Scout! Apply to be a girl participant using our GS Events Registration System. Choose the girl leadership opportunity you are most interested in. Cost of the program is $5/ girl. Financial aid is available. *Includes Take the Lead patch and rocker, snack at training/rehearsal, and dinner at a Take the Lead event. All lead roles require an interview for selection. A member of the Girl Experience team will reach out in October to set up interviews.

September Family Camp FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 5PM – MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 10AM Camp Mosey Wood White Haven, PA 18661 Grade: All Ages Cost: $100/person Enjoy a weekend of fun and relaxation for you and your entire family! Parents, sisters, brothers, grandparents, and other relatives are all invited to Camp Mosey Wood to participate in organized activities, such as swimming, boating, hiking, games, and crafts. Attendees can also enjoy other activities independently. Activity specialists will be on hand to guide you through archery (2nd grade and above) and the high-ropes challenge course (6th grade and above), with lifeguards overseeing swimming and boating. Adults must supervise children during the event; one adult must register for every three children. Includes accommodations in platform tents and all meals, Saturday breakfast through Monday breakfast, served in the Dining Hall.

Splash into Adventure! FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 7PM – SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 4PM Camp Mosey Wood White Haven, PA 18661 Grade: 6-12 Cost: $120/girl $95/adult This weekend is all about the water! Spend time out on the lake in row boats, canoes, kayaks, and on Stand Up Paddleboards! View the lake from a new perspective as you soar over it on the zip lines, and explore the beaver habitat as you paddle to the overflow. You will definitely get wet this weekend, so be sure to pack extra clothes! Sunday, the water fun does not end, as it is time to travel to Lehighton and take a rafting trip down the Lehigh River! All troops must meet girl-adult ratios for their group. Individual girls must be accompanied


by a registered adult. All adults must have a satisfactory background check on file to participate in the program. Includes activities listed (weather permitting), rafting, accommodations in tent units, and hot meals served in the Dining Hall Saturday and a cold breakfast and bagged lunch Sunday. Eco-Girl Scouts SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 10AM-12:30PM Camp Valley Forge Phoenixville, PA 19481 Grades: K-3 Cost: $15/girl Come to Camp Valley Forge where you will discover how to treat outdoor spaces with kindness and teach others how they can, too! You’ll learn the basics of building an eco-friendly campfire and how to keep our wildlife safe. All troops must meet girl-adult ratios for their group. Individual girls must be accompanied by a registered adult. *Program includes the Eco-Learner badge for Daisies and the Eco-Friend badge for Brownies.

How do you have a fire at your campsite without causing harm to the earth? Will your outdoor activities impact the local wildlife? Come to this planning event for Autumn Adventures where you’ll learn specific details about volunteer roles and help to design additional activities we will lead. Volunteer roles include tattoo artists, arts and crafts, Halloween games. Also, You’ll earn Service to Girl Scouting hours and enjoy some tasty ice cream too! Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors interested in helping to plan and run Autumn Adventures must register for and

attend Sundae Sunday. Girls must be able to attend the Autumn Adventure event held October 30th. All Troops must come with registered and cleared adults—as adults will be asked to volunteer in facilitation of the programs. Learn how to maketrail signs, find cool sequences in nature, geocache to find hidden treasure, learn the basics of using a compass, and follow clues throughout camp on a treasure hunt! GSEP Older Girl Leadership Fair SATURDAY, OCTOBER 2, 10AM-12PM Virtual – ZOOM Grade: 6-12 Cost: $90/girl Did you know that you can earn an award just for holding a leadership position in a club at school? Or, that girls like you are elected to decide and vote on important Girl Scout topics every year? Learn about these opportunities, and so much more, at this fair – designed specifically for older girls, as requested by older girls. Being a Girl Scout is amazing at every age, but at this fair, you’ll find that the real fun starts when you’re an older girl!

Daisy Clover Petal Workshop TUESDAY, OCTOBER 5, 6-7PM Virtual – ZOOM Grades: K-1 Cost: $5/girl Girls Scouts always use resources wisely! Learn skills for minimal impact on the environment and reusing common household items. During this hour, girls will earn parts of the petal. Brownie Senses Badge Workshop THURSDAY, OCTOBER 14, 6-7PM Virtual – ZOOM Grades: 2-3 Cost: $5/girl You have five senses that work together to let you see, hear, smell, taste, and touch the world around you. Learn how to use your five senses to explore your world! During this hour, girls will earn parts of the badge. A follow-up email will be sent with any further steps that need to be completed. You will learn songs, play games, make a mural, and see how many items you can find in a scavenger hunt at the Girl Scout Museum. See the changes made in Brownie uniforms over the years, discover the uniform your mother or grandmother might have worn, and try them on for a selfie! Afterwards, you will join our Juliette Low re-enactor for tea and cookies. All troops must meet girl-adult ratios for their group. Engineer Blueprint SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 9AM–4PM Camp Shelly Ridge Miquon, PA 19444 Grade: 9-12 Cost: $38/girl Seniors and Ambassadors spend your Sunday at Camp Shelly Ridge being innovators! Draw blueprints using everyday options to solve a problem. Design an animal enrichment product. Build a zipline. As you build, adapt to any challenges your face. Whose will be tallest or fastest? Your third and final challenge will be to design a piece of mobility equipment. Leave camp ready to Take Action to help others by engineering a solution. Please bring a packed lunch with you. Next Stop: College SATURDAY NOVEMBER 13, 8AM-5:30PM Camp Shelly Ridge Miquon, PA 19444 Grade: 9-12 Cost: $17/girl $5/adult Find the atmosphere that matches your vibe as we experience college life on campuses across Philadelphia! We will visit three campuses to get a taste of what it feels like to be a college student in the city of brotherly love! Participants should plan to meet at Shelly Ridge Service Center; GSEP will provide bussing to and from various colleges. List of colleges we will be visiting to be announced in the fall.

With a team of two to four people, run, walk or bike, as you race to meet check points and complete team challenges throughout Camp Laughing Waters in our two-hour adventure race. Choose your level of adventure by picking your course and challenges. You might get wet, you might get muddy or dirty, but you’re guaranteed to have fun! Use Your Voice: The Power of Me Town Hall SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 11AM-1PM Virtual – ZOOM Grades: 4-12 Cost: $5/member Girls in grades 4-12 are encouraged to attend this VIRTUAL event. Adults are also welcome. The two-hour town hall will feature local women panelists, who will share how they have used their voices to bring about real change in their own lives and communities. During the first hour, our panelists will share how they have creatively and successfully used their voices to understand the importance of mental health awareness and bring about real change. This will take place in a town hall panel type discussion, and you will have the opportunity to submit questions in advance to the panelists as well as submit in Q & A chat during the hour. The second hour will be small group breakouts, based on age levels, where you will be able to reflect on what you heard from the panelists and talk about how you can use the power of you to take action around mental health awareness. Gather with your troop to help make this year’s Winter Lights Spectacular the biggest and brightest! Design your own theme, plan out your materials and work together as you decorate your own section of camp. Then get special VIP access to the opening night! Troops will sign up for a location at Camp Laughing Waters to decorate for our Winter Lights Spectacular program. Troops will need to provide their own lights and decorations, as well as extension cords and plugs. Troops can choose to decorate on the 11th or 12th or both, Troops can also choose an overnight stay from the 11th -12th. All troops must be available for Sunday December 19th clean up. This is a Troop Only opportunity. One of the many sisterhood issues facing girls and women today is dating violence. Together with Kind Living Designs, learn more about the statistics, and the how’s and why’s around abuse and harassment. How do you find your voice for yourselves and others? What are the red flags in any relationship that require you to learn how to set smart and safe boundaries? What do healthy behaviors in relationships look like? Working with curriculum from the One Love Foundation, you will be educated and empowered to affect change in your community through content, conversations, and community action. Did you know that staying healthy is much more than just exercising? Are you creating healthy habits now that will last throughout your life? Join YWCA Tri County Area’s Youth Empowerment Programs Department to learn ways to keep your body and brain healthy through movement, creative expression, mindfulness, and healthy eating. We will engage in physical activities to get our hearts pumping, do an art project to flex our creative muscles, practice stillness to bring calm to our minds, and prepare a healthy snack together to nourish our bodies. Kappa Delta Key to Happiness SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 11AM-1PM Villanova University 800 E Lancaster Avenue Villanova, PA 19085 Grades: 6-8 Cost: $8/girl The Kappa Delta girls do many things to relax and take a break while dealing with the stress of school. During this program, the KD’s will share with you how to keep a positive mindset when faced with stressful times. Learn about their favorite things to do when they are feeling down, then have a conversation about things that make you happy! Come together as a group at the end to create happiness techniques all together. All troops must meet girl-adult ratios for their group. aMAZING Relationships SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 10:30AM4:30PM Virtual – ZOOM Grades: 6-8 Cost: $27/girl Want to develop the skills to have AMAZING relationships? Join the staff of Girls Empowered and fellow Girl Scouts to learn the qualities of healthy versus unhealthy relationships, the skills to effectively overcome friendship challenges/ peer pressure, and how to prevent/handle bullying. You will also learn about the importance of having strong interpersonal skills in the “real world”. You will end with creating a Take Action project to help prevent bullying in your community. Registration Information Girls can participate in any day program individually (unless otherwise noted), with a group, or as a troop. Special efforts are made to welcome all girls. Please note, while we may be able to accommodate additional adults in certain situations, program space is reserved for girls. Program registrations are accepted online.

GSEP does not accept registrations by phone. GSEP is excited to introduce a new way to register for events! Visit gsep.org and click on your MyGS tab. Log in with your username and password and select FIND EVENTS. You can then enter your zip code to search programs near you or enter the country, state and city of the program you are looking for. You can also narrow your search by selecting additional criteria. Click SEARCH at the bottom and you are ready to explore events! Need help? IMPORTANT FOR PARENTS, GUARDIANS & VOLUNTEERS • Adult spaces in programs are intended only for the number of adults necessary to meet the girl-adult ratios, unless otherwise indicated. Chaperoning adults are free unless otherwise indicated by a per person or per adult price for the program. All adults must be registered for the program. • A ll girls attending a program or event must be registered Girl Scouts. Girls new to Girl Scouts can register as a new member online at gsep.org through MyGS. • Council-sponsored programs are designed for specific age/ grade levels. Please only register for programs that are in your age/grade level. • Leaders, parents, and guardians must make arrangements to leave other children at home. Additional children and/or family members are not permitted to attend any GSEP program. • A ll GSEP Sponsored Programs: According to Volunteer Essentials, all volunteers participating in the Girl Scout movement shall meet GSUSA membership standards, which include committing to the Girl Scout Promise, accepting the Girl Scout Law, and registering annually through the Council as members of the Girl Scout movement. Effective January 1, 2014, prior to registering for all programs sponsored by GSEP, adults who are interested in attending must have a current membership. This applies to all of the programs advertised in Spark or via the GSEP website or other communication. Cost of registration is $25 and is in addition to the cost of the program. Adults can register online. • T rips & Overnight Programs: According to Volunteer Essentials, when girls go on trips and overnight programs, the group must have at least two unrelated, registered, cleared, and trained adult volunteers. Adults who attend overnight programs or share GSEP property at the same time girls are in attendance need to be cleared and registered to ensure the utmost safety of the girls. Effective January 1, 2014, in addition to becoming a registered adult member of Girl Scouts, any adult who registers for an overnight program with GSEP will have to successfully complete the criminal background check process prior to program registration.

1. Go to MyGS and register as an adult member. 2. Choose a volunteer role. 3. Check your email for confirmation and next steps to complete the criminal background check process. • Due to planning issues and safety concerns, walk-in girl and adult registration cannot be accepted at any GSEP event. REGISTRATION DEADLINES  Registrations are accepted until the program is full or one week prior to the program date, whichever comes first. Please allow at least four weeks lead time from the program date for processing of paper registration forms. CONFIRMATIONS  Confirmation packets are sent via email the first business day after registration closes. If registration closes on a Saturday or Sunday, you should expect the confirmation the following Monday. SPACE & ATTENDANCE  Program space is limited. Attendance capacity is based on the needs of the program itself and cannot be adjusted due to late registration, transfer requests, troop needs, etc. Program capacity and space availability can be viewed online. Badges and patches will only be given out to girls who are in attendance. TROOP REGISTRATION  Only approved troop leaders/coleaders can register current troop members. PAYMENT  Payment for all programs is due in full at the time of registration. Space will not be held for any registration forms submitted without the full payment amount that is due. REFUNDS  Requests for refunds must be submitted in writing to memberservices@gsep.org at least four weeks in advance of the program date for consideration. Refunds are not issued for “no shows” (registrants who do not attend). Refunds are not issued for cancellations occurring less than four weeks in advance or if numbers are reduced less than four weeks prior to the event. CANCELLATIONS  GSEP reserves the right to cancel an event due to insufficient registration, acts of nature, or other reasons beyond our control. In the event a program is canceled, a full refund will be issued. Weather-related cancellations: A GSEP staff member will contact you if a program will be cancelled due to weather. When possible, the event will be rescheduled or a refund issued. For cancellations in advance, email notification will be sent to each registrant. For same day cancellations, an attempt will be made to call the phone number available on record. Phone numbers and emails can be updated at any time through the Program/Event Registration System when you visit your online profile on our website at gsep.org.
