Dear GSGLA Girl Scouts and Girl Scout Families, The future is looking bright. GSGLA turns 100 this year and I cannot think of a better way to celebrate this milestone birthday than by girls jumping (or diving or swinging!) into a summer of endless adventures at camp. As girls are grappling with the long-term effects of the pandemic—navigating new ways of communicating, learning, and socializing—Girl Scout summer camp offers girls a safe space to form friendships, discover more about themselves, lean into new opportunities, stretch the bounds of achievable goals, and tap into newfound levels of self-esteem. As the largest girl-serving nonprofit in Southern California, we’re proud to offer camp at a tremendous cost value to parents and caregivers of girls across Greater LA. On average, GSGLA camps are about half the price of local for-profit camps. And because we believe every girl should experience the magic of Girl Scout camp—regardless of financial circumstance—financial aid “camperships” are available. There’s a GSGLA camp experience waiting for your girl—from stargazing and discovering wildlife to rock-wall climbing and canoeing. In Greater LA, girls can blaze trails in the mountains at Camp Lakota, explore the sea at Marine Landing, or tackle obstacle courses in a tree-lined park at El Ranchito. Girls can play teambuilding games in the foothills at Mariposa, hike the hillsides at La Casita, zip line over the pristine pine forest at Lakota, or let their imaginations run free at the Inglewood Innovation Center. Whichever adventure she chooses, she will return home with a lifetime of memories—and more courage, confidence, and character than ever. For 100 years, GSGLA girls have proven themselves to be forces of nature. Here’s to the next 100 years of fostering girls’ fierce, independent spirits through outdoor adventures. I can’t wait to see you this summer! Yours in Girl Scouting,
Theresa Edy Kiene Chief Executive Officer

The Gift of Girl Scout Why Girls Love It... Challenge by choice 75% of parents reported their camper challenged herself to try something new at Girl Scout Camp. Growing into themselves When I was younger, I was very shy. The “camp counselors, Program Aides (PAs), and Counselors in Training (CITs) were very kind and welcoming. They gave me a chance to grow and step out of my comfort zone and helped me be open-minded and courageous.

Important Overnight Camp Information Program Notes Every girl who attends overnight camp will receive a commemorative item, camp patch, and any badges earned. Campers participating in our equestrian programs are scheduled for daily horse time (weather permitting).
Transportation Bus transportation* (roundtrip) is included in the cost of each session. Due to the mountain roads and location of our camps, we highly recommend bus transportation. It allows campers an opportunity to meet other girls before they arrive at camp. It also reduces the wear and tear on the camp’s natural environment. Overnight camp buses are chaperoned by camp staff. Transportation method is indicated on your CampDoc forms and once selected, cannot be changed. A $10 late fee will be charged for every 15 minutes after the designated pickup time. Buses will be available at many of our GSGLA service centers across Los Angeles. Our BAND app will be our main source of communication on bus days and will be updated with realtime arrival and departure information. A link will be sent to all families prior to the start of their session. *You can also choose to drive your child to and from camp but please note that we cannot accommodate interchanging methods of transportation. If your camper rides the bus to camp, she must ride the bus home from camp. If you drop your camper off at camp, you must pick your camper up at camp. We are unable to make any exceptions.
Meals Girls are provided three nutritious meals and snacks daily. Special diets can be accommodated, including vegetarian, gluten-free, nut-free, kosher, and dairy-free options at each meal (must be noted in CampDoc Form). A camper with food allergies must understand her allergy and know what foods to eat/not eat while at camp. If you would like to discuss your camper’s accommodations, please contact the camp director at lakotacamp@girlscoutsla.org.

Health forms must be completed one week before the start of your camper’s session. All health forms are submitted/uploaded via CampDoc.com. If you have any questions, please contact the camp director at lakotacamp@girlscoutsla.org Spanish language health history forms are available by contacting our Health Forms Hotline at 626-677-2282 or via camphealthforms@girlscoutsla.org. All our GSGLA Camps have a Health & Inclusion Director on staff to assist our most vulnerable campers and ensure an equitable experience for all campers. If you think your camper may need special accommodation at camp, please contact your Camp Director or update your camper profile on CampDoc appropriately. For up-to-date COVID policies at our Day Camps please check out website girlscoutsla.org.
Special Needs & Accommodations Our goal is to provide a positive experience for all girls—help us ensure your girl’s success at camp. Parents/guardians of girls with special needs, disabilities, or mobility issues should contact the camp director lakotacamp@girlscoutsla.org. You can discuss with the camp director the nature of your camper’s needs to determine if our camp can provide the proper support and supervision.
Weather Due to rapidly changing weather conditions, activities at camp may have to be altered or canceled. Our primary concern is for girl safety, and every effort will be made to reschedule activities.

When to Register Registration for all summer camps opens February 16. Be sure to secure your spot early, as registrations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. How to Register
Need Assistance? Contact customercare@girlscoutsla.org or (213) 213-0123
Step 1: Getting started
Camp/Program Credit Cards
Use this interactive Summer Guide to easily register for camp.
Camp/Program Credit Cards can be used to pay for camp sessions in full or in partial payments through paper registration only. Paper forms can be found on our website, under “Camp and Outdoors”. They cannot be used to pay for the camp fee deposit. If you are attending a camp that has a deposit fee, you must pay the deposit fee with your personal credit card and then you may use the Camp/ Program Credit Card for the remaining balance payment.
Follow these steps: • Login to your MyGS account. • Open another tab in your browser and open the Summer Camp Guide located on our Camp webpage at girlscampla.org (We recommend Google for your browser experience.) • Find the camp you are interested in registering to and hover over the session listing to see the link. • Click on the link to go directly to that camp registration page.
Step 2: Register for an event • • • •

Once you find your camp, choose “Event Details” to review details about camp. Please read everything in the Event Details section (left-hand column) before you begin the registration process. Use the “+” to select the number of girls and/or adults that you are registering for this camp in the right-side panel. Scroll down and select the green “Log In” or “Add Events” button. You will be prompted to sign in or create an account if you don’t currently have a My GS account. On the next page, under Assign Attendees, select “My Household” • Choose your first attendee • Choose payment option for the attendee. • Click “Next Participant” and repeat the process until all attendees are added • Once all attendees have been added, choose “Submit Member Details”. Confirm the Total $ amount is correct in the right panel. Registering for additional camp? To register for another camp in this transaction, click on the GS logo in the green header and search for the next camp. Follow steps above to register. Click “Review Cart” and submit payment. You will see a payment confirmation showing the order number and the email address where the receipt will be sent. You may also print receipt.
Camp Balances Camp fee balances are due two weeks prior to the start of every camp session. Late payments or payments not received will result in a loss of placement in the camp and loss of the deposit. It is the responsibility of the camper’s parent to pay camp fee balances by this deadline. To see if you have any balance owed, log into your MyGS account and click on “My Events” on the left panel to see the events for which you are registered. Click into each event/camp and you will see any that have balance owed. If your camper is dropped from the camp due to balance not being paid by the deadline and if you still wish for the camper to attend the camp, you will need to pay a new deposit fee along with the remainder of the camp balance. Payment must be made in full and space must be available at the camp—no exceptions.

General Camp FAQs Do I have to be a Girl Scout to attend camp? If a camper is not currently a Girl Scout, a one-time $25 annual membership fee will be applied in addition to your total camp fees. As members, girls can participate in an array of councilsponsored programs located across Greater Los Angeles during the current program year, as well as joining a troop. Is financial aid available? Yes, financial aid “camperships” are available for campers whose family financial circumstances might otherwise prevent them from attending camp. Interested applicants must submit the Campership Application via e-form. Will my camper need a physical examination to attend camp? For overnight camp, yes. Each camper is required to have a physical examination within 12 months of the starting day of their scheduled camp session. A CampDoc profile is required for all campers and must be completed no more than two months prior to the camper’s session. Please reach out to camphealthforms@girlscoutsla.org for information on nocost physicals. What if my child needs medical or special accommodations while at camp? Overnight camp has a health supervisor on site, and all camps always have first aid-certified adults on site who administer routine health care and any medications. An emergency contact plan is in place should any medical emergencies occur. Parents are notified as soon as possible in the event of any special medical emergency. If your camper has any special needs (physical, behavioral, etc.), every effort will be made to accommodate her through each camp’s designated Health and Inclusion Director. Please include any past or potential concerns on the CampDoc profile. The camp director will contact you prior to your daughter’s session. Can special foods be provided? Most special dietary needs can be met if camp directors
are notified in advance. At resident camp, meal options due to medical, religious, or other reasons are available. Please indicate these requirements on your camper’s CampDoc profile. Vegetarian alternatives are offered at every meal. Can my camper be in the same unit as her friend? Girl Scout camp is a wonderful way to meet new people. A camper may request one “buddy” after registering for camp through CampDoc. Both campers must register for the same program and week at camp. Make sure you and your child’s buddy and her parents are planning this together. Bunk buddy placement is not guaranteed. Who are the camp staff? Camp staff (paid and volunteer) are enthusiastic, fun, caring, energetic, well-trained, and experienced individuals who are hired based on their ability to work with children in a learning and nurturing environment. All staff are required to complete a background check, health screening, and 40 hours of training on topics including youth supervision, child development, program planning, conflict resolution, first aid, CPR, Youth Protection Training, and additional certification for specialized program delivery. The resident camp ratio of staff to campers in fourth grade and above is 1:8; and, for second and third grade, it’s 1:6 with a ratio of 1:6 for high-adventure programs. The day camp ratio is 1:10 and for aquatic activities, it is 1:5. What camp health and safety standards are maintained? All GSGLA camps meet the health and safety standards and guidelines established by Girl Scouts of the USA and the State of California. Copies of the California Health Department’s inspections are kept on file at council offices. For information specific to COVID-19 visit girlscoutsla.org. Where can I find information about my camp?
