What will she choose to do this summer?

While she may not remember exactly how her summer Girl Scout experience made her more responsible and independent, or how it gave her an appreciation for nature, science, or learning a new skill, you will.

We encourage you to take some time to check out our summer camp and event options with her by your side. Then head over to gswise.org to learn more and sign her up.

You’ll know when she says, “I learned how to make this rocket and it was so cool!” You’ll know when she talks about facing her fears and trying something new.

Day Camp by Community Run by volunteers, led by teens, these camps run for five days and are held in communities all over southeastern Wisconsin. See if there is a Day Camp by Community near you.

You’ll know when she screams, “I got my first bulls-eye!” You’ll know when she tells you “the counselors let me lead the hike today because I knew the way!”

Girl Scouting is a community unlike any other. We provide an open, non-competitive environment, where girls find the courage to meet new people, make friends, and be champions for others as they challenge themselves to try new activities. She’ll learn to work well with others, become self-reliant, and develop her leadership skills…and have tons of fun while doing it.

Silver Brook Day Camp Girls spend three or five days at Camp Silver Brook in West Bend. Camp is run by our staff and each session has a different theme. Find out what peaks her interest! Alice Chester Overnight Camp Treat her to two, three, five, or more nights at beautiful Camp Alice Chester. Each camp session has a special focus. Activities are geared for girls at every level. Career Camps These camps are geared for teens and put the fun and emphasis on future careers— technology, protective services, and becoming a business leader. Spring Adventures Girls can choose their day-long adventures that start and end at our Holton Center. Some adventures are held on site while others take girls to exciting locations around southeastern Wisconsin. Summer Events So many for her to choose from! Events focus on one topic and run for a few hours a day. Some are geared just for girls while others have a troop or family focus.

Your camper’s safety is our #1 priority. Our camps ensure safety by following state licensing and Girl Scout Safety standards which include but are not limited to:

Is my camper ready for camp? Yes, she is! With our day and overnight camp options there is something for all girls at any comfort level. While at camp, she’ll be paired with girls her own age and participate in activities for her level of camp experience.

Is my camper ready for overnight camp?

• Certified lifeguards, health supervisors, and high risk activity instructors • Training for all staff to ensure your camper’s physical and emotional wellbeing

Can my camper bring a cell phone? Our camps are unplugged to give girls the opportunity to connect with nature, others, and themselves.

Absolutely! You can relax and enjoy yourself knowing she is in a safe and fun environment surrounded by trained staff and volunteers having experiences that will last a lifetime.

What if my camper has special needs? We are dedicated to serving all girls at camp and will work diligently to make sure your camper feels included no matter what your situation. We recommend contacting the camp director so both of you can share details on how to make her camp experience a success.

Who are the staff and volunteers? We select talented, caring adults with experience, ability to serve as role models, and genuine desire to work with children. Our staff and camp directors are trained to help your camper thrive with topics such as—first aid and CPR, emergency procedures, child development, and much more. You can register your girl for camp with her BFF! If girls want to be placed with a specific Camp Buddy, note that on the Buddy Request line during registration. In order to honor your request, both buddies must put the other’s name on the Camp Buddy Request line. Please note that for Silver Brook Day Camp and Alice Chester Overnight Camp girls need to register for the same session, be in the same grade, and list each other as their Buddy.

Are there opportunities for Program Aides (PAs) to volunteer? Yes. Look for the PA icon used throughout this book for ways you can assist at camp and events.

Camp General Information

How to Register for Camp How to register for Camp • Registration through Camp Doc will automatically open on gswise.org on Wednesday, February 8, at noon. • If you are unable to register online, contact Customer Care at 800-565-4475 or customercare@gswise.org for assistance. • Program Activity Credits (PACs) earned through the Girl Scout Cookie Program Activity or Fall Nut Sale can reduce the cost for the girl who earned the PAC to attend camp or an event. Do not wait to register for camp until you receive your PAC. You will be reimbursed for your PAC once you receive it. • Financial Assistance is available for various levels of need to help families meet the cost of sending their girl to camp and events. To request financial assistance, complete and submit the form at gswise.org. Financial assistance is funded by proceeds from the Girl Scout Cookie Program Activity and gifts to Girl Scouting. Financial assistance can be considered for one resident camp, one day camp, and one event per season per girl.

Adults Volunteering for Camp • Adults volunteering for camp must be a registered Girl Scout member and have a current background check (within the last three years). •

Go online to gswise.org to become a member • At the Get Involved screen, search for Day Camp Volunteer as your position • Pay for your membership and watch your email for the background check email to complete your background check

• Adults must then register for camp and complete their health history.

Camp Discount Save $25 by registering for any camp* before the price increase on Monday, May 1. (*Prairie Hill DCC has a registration deadline of Thursday, March 31)

PAC Discount Online Registration • Go to gswise.org. The exact link to the camps in Camp Doc will be posted on the website. An email to all GSWISE members with the link to camp registration will be sent. • Anyone attending camp last year already has a profile in Camp Doc and can use that to register for camp this year. Password reset information will be sent in the membership email.

Follow instructions on the back of your PAC card to pay for camp using the funds you earned during the Girl Scout Cookie Program Activity or the Fall Nut Sale program.

Confirmations Confirmation of registration will be sent to your email address. Depending on the camp/session you registered, your Camp Doc profile may include:

• NEW! Your health profile must be completed in Camp Doc within one week of registration or your registration will be canceled.

• Family guide with a packing list

• Sessions that are full will be marked accordingly.

• Additional session information

• Make a full payment with a credit/debit card (Visa, Discover, and MasterCard).

• Directions to camp

• Registrations are compatible with all web browsers and mobile devices.

• Additional waiver forms that need to be completed within one week of registration

Refunds and Cancellations • Camp: Refunds, minus a $50 non-refundable deposit for overnight camp or a $25 non-refundable deposit for day camp, are available for cancellations received in writing six weeks prior to the session start date. • Full refunds are issued if your girl cannot be placed in the session of her choice.

Each team of volunteers and Girl Scout teens is ready to ignite your curiosity and help you make the most of this beloved summer tradition. Keep your cool with water games, explore nature, get creative with arts and crafts, and challenge yourself as you learn new outdoor skills.

What new skills will you learn? Activities get more challenging as girls grow! Whether it’s your very first time at camp or you’re a seasoned pro, at a Day Camp by Community you’re on the path to becoming a Master of the Outdoors. Here’s an example of our skill progression: To teach targeting skills, Daisy Girl Scouts will learn how to use sling shots; Brownies and Junior Girl Scouts learn how to target the bull’s-eye with bows and arrows; and older Girl Scouts may lead games while everyone waits for their turn.

General information Campers entering grades 1–7: Fee includes a T-shirt, patch, busing, programming, and some meals/snacks. PAs/CITs entering grades 8–graduating seniors: Do not pay a camp fee but still receive the patch, busing, and some meals/snacks. Peewees (ages 3–5) PW and boys (ages 6–12) B : $15 per day, only on the day the parent volunteers at camp. See gswise.org for details and qualifications for each camp. Please make sure your child is ready to be away from you and spend a day at camp. Adults: Adults receive free busing and some meals/snacks.

Keeping camp safe 

Each adult on site has completed and passed a background check.



Each camp has a Health Supervisor on staff all day and a first aider for each overnight.



Swimming and boating activities have certified and trained lifeguards.



Archery instructors are trained and certified by national archery organizations.



Camps are licensed and inspected by state health inspectors.



Weather is monitored and plans are in place for heat, storms, and emergencies.



Camp directors are volunteers and are trained in leadership development, emergency procedures, outdoor skills, and much more. They are from your community and spend the whole year training and organizing your week of day camp.

Camp Locations Each camp is owned by GSWISE and maintained by GSWISE staff. Camps feature a mix of buildings, outdoor shelters, forests, and open spaces. Volunteers! You Make Day Camp by Community Possible Support of adult family members = girls thrive! For each day of camp, one adult is needed for every five to eight girls. That means adults from each family and/or troop are needed to volunteer one or more days to make camp happen.

Online Volunteer Registration Step 1:

Trade a day at the office for a day by the campfire.

Step 2: Complete an online Application and Background Check at gswise.org.

We don’t need to tell you how quickly girls grow up! Spend a day or two (or five) volunteering at camp and make memories that last a lifetime.

Step 3: Register for camp by completing Camp Registration at gswise.org.

Recruit volunteers for your team (parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, college students, past campers, and friends)! Show up on time and ready for fun! Adults work in pairs and keep track of eight to twelve girls.

Two to Three Night Camp Adventures These are great for first-time campers or girls with busy summer schedules.

Five Night Camp Adventures

Overnight camp opportunities for girls are subsidized by Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast. This means the cost of providing camp programs and operating camp is greater than the fee paid to participate. The flexible pricing system offers families the opportunity to help cover the true cost of overnight camp if they are financially able. For each session you will see three price options: Level 1 adds, on average, an additional $50 per day to Level 3 pricing. This reflects close to the actual cost of operating camp per girl. Replacement supplies, maintenance of the buildings and grounds, and property staff support are included in this fee. Level 2 adds, on average, an additional $25 per day to Level 3 pricing. This covers approximately 75% of the actual cost of camp per girl and is designated for those who can pay more, but not the full fee. Level 3 is the lowest cost of this program listed in the camp brochure and on the website. This covers approximately 52% of the actual cost per girl of facilitating the camp program.

Five to Seven Night Adventure Trips Our adventure trips are great for the seasoned camper or girls looking to explore the world beyond camp. Girls spend the majority of their time away from camp on their great adventure .

Five to Twelve Night Leadership Programs These are for our older girls wanting to be a camp counselor or work with children as a part of their career.

Select the fee that you feel is affordable and appropriate for your family. The flexible pricing does not affect the quality of your child’s program, as all three fees are for exactly the same program. We ask that if you are able to pay the full cost of camp that you do. If choosing more than one week you may, for example, pay Level 1 for one week and another level the next week. If multiple children are attending camp you may pay the full fee for one child and another fee for another child. The goals of offering flexible pricing options are to provide the highest quality programs possible to serve all community income levels and to preserve camp for generations to come.

Our horse programs are progressive which means as you move up through the programs you learn new skills and increase your comfort level with horses. When you’re not spending time with horses, you will be having a great time at Camp Alice Chester! Levels 2, 3, and 4 spend overnights away from camp. While all of our programs provide leadership opportunities, some girls are looking for a more in-depth experience. Our Counselor-in-Training programs allow girls to build their skills as they journey from camper to staff:  Work with and guide younger girls  Design a program to teach a group of girls  Discover your personal leadership style  Gain service hours for both high school and future college requirements  Build your repertoire of activities and skills  Connections to future careers including camp counselor, teacher, child psychologist, and outdoor educator.

Entering grades 11–12 Strengthen your leadership resume by spending more time mentoring younger campers. A high ropes course and road trip to other camps will have your confidence soaring. There’s so much to do! The coolest thing about summer events is that there are so many to choose from. We encourage you to try something new but don’t forget the tried and true. Interested in engineering? New to nature? We have programs just for you! Did you love canoeing last summer? Or climbing the rock wall? Chances are you’ll love it again. Events are loaded with classic Girl Scout programming so get ready to learn a lot, have fun, and meet new friends.

We invite girls to attend summer events for the grade she is entering in the fall.



All GSWISE sponsored events are fun, interactive, educational, held to the highest safety standards, and developed to meet the needs of all girls.



Some events are appropriate for the whole family. Find these events in the Family & Friends section on pp. 41-42. These are the only events at which siblings are allowed to attend.



Girls can attend events by themselves, with their troop, or with a favorite adult.



Events are facilitated by staff, volunteers, and/or girls (under supervision).

For sleepover events, girls need to have an adult chaperone.



Events are also a fun way to start or complete requirements for an earned award.

For day events, registration closes two days prior to the event; an additional $10 late fee will be charged for registrations received the week before the event.



For overnight events, registration closes one week prior to the event; an additional $10 late fee will be charged for registrations received less than two weeks prior to the event.

Leaders! By attending Outdoor Skill Builder, Let’s Go Camping, or overnight events at Camp Silver Brook, you will complete your Outdoor Skills and Planning the Overnight training requirements.

Program Aides (PA) PA

Financial assistance is available to help families register their girls for one summer event. Event financial assistance can be requested during online registration.

Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors! You can assist at events by leading activities as a Program Aide! Have fun, strengthen your leadership skills, and meet new friends while working directly with younger girls.

Confirmations, Recognitions, and Cancelations 

All events are connected to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and many events help girls earn a Girl Scout recognition— a badge, patch, or Journey award. In the event description, Earned award means that girls will complete all steps needed to earn the award and Related award means that girls will complete some steps needed to earn the award.



If your girl cannot attend the event for which she paid, notify the council at least one week before day events and two weeks before overnight events to have the fee transferred to another event (one transfer only). If the event is canceled by the council, full refunds will be issued.



There are no registration fees to assist as a PA at an event.



Work together to build your outdoor skills by cooking a meal over a fire, geocaching, tying knots, practicing knife safety, and enjoying the water while swimming or paddle boating. Troops provide their own meals. Leaders will receive credit for completing Planning the Overnight and Outdoor Skills training.

The adventure begins with s’mores, water experiences, a top-secret underground location at camp, and a night activity at Camp Silver Brook. The next day, take a bus field trip to Ledge View Nature Center in Chilton, WI, to explore the twists and turns of caverns. Troops provide their own meals. Note: cavers will get very dirty.

Girl Scout Gold Award Interviews Grades 9–12 Girls going for the Girl Scout Gold Award must meet with the Girl Scout Gold Award Committee for a first and final interview. A girl cannot start her project until approval is received from the council. For project approval and to schedule an interview date, submit a Project Proposal to the council at least three weeks prior to the preferred prescheduled interview date. The council will then schedule an interview appointment. Every year teens are having the most awesome, unforgettable trips of their lives traveling through Girl Scout Destinations. Girl Scout Destinations take Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors on unique trips ranging from dog sledding in Minnesota to discovering the Amazon in Peru, Broadway in New York, to astronautics in Alabama. Trips generally happen in the summer, range from several days to a few weeks long, and are sponsored by Girl Scout councils across the country or Girl Scouts of the USAapproved organizations, like Outward Bound.
