Wands & Wizards: The Magic of Camp Unleash your inner G.I.R.L. (go-getter, innovator, risk-taker, leader)™ and join us for summer adventure inspired by our theme: Wands & Wizards: The Magic of Camp! Each team of Girl Scout volunteers and teens is ready to ignite her curiosity as she takes part in this beloved summer tradition. She’ll keep cool with water fun, explore nature, get creative with arts projects, and challenge herself as she learns new outdoor skills. In our girl-led, girl-only environment she’ll feel comfortable trying new things and empowered to take the lead.

Day Camps are held for five days at Camp Winding River, Camp Pottawatomie Hills, Chinook Program Center or Trefoil Oaks Program Center for communities throughout southeastern Wisconsin. Each is run by adult volunteers and led by teens. Activities are progressive so girls can continue to learn new skills as they grow! Summer adventure is inspired by our theme: Wands & Wizards: The Magic of Camp.

What new skills will she learn? Activities get more challenging as girls grow! Whether it’s her very first time at camp or she’s a seasoned pro, at a Day Camp by Community she is on the path to becoming a Master of the Outdoors.

An example of our skill progression: To teach targeting skills, Girl Scout Daisies or Brownies may learn how to use sling shots; Girl Scout Brownies or Juniors may learn how to target the bullseye with bows and arrows; and older Girl Scouts may perfect their skills with hatchet throwing.

Volunteers! You Make Day Camp by Community Possible

Adults from each family network are needed to volunteer one (or more!) days For each day of camp, one adult is needed for every five to eight girls to follow girl to adult ratio. That means adults from each family and/or troop are needed to volunteer one or more days to make camp happen.

Trade a day at work for a day with your girl! You know how quickly girls grow up! Spend a day or two (or five) volunteering at camp and make memories that will last a lifetime.

Volunteer or find volunteers from your personal network. Recruit aunts, uncles, grandparents, college students, past campers, and friends.

Show up on time ready for fun! Registered adults generally work in pairs and lead eight to twelve girls in a unit.

How to Register to Volunteer Step 1: Register as a member of Girl Scouts at gswise.org and complete an online background check. Step 2: Register for the camp session she will attend. Go to gswise.org/camp. What does my day look like when I volunteer? You will be assigned to be part of a unit or at an activity station with other adults, CITs and PAs. You will be given a schedule, map of camp and resource binder. The CITs and PAs know their way around camp and will help lead activities and get you where you need to be. Your time will be spent

• assisting girls in getting to activities on time • making sure everyone is included • helping girls make new friends • encouraging girls as they try new activities

You don’t need to be an experienced camper. You just need to want to help girls enjoy camp and be successful. And of course, we want you to have fun too!

All camps offer an orientation for volunteers. We want to make sure you feel comfortable when you are at camp and we will answer all of your questions before your camp arrives.

Troop co-leaders: volunteering gives you a chance to learn new skills to use with your troop during the school year. Plus, you’ll learn lots of songs and games the girls can enjoy at troop meetings.

Adults who are not already a registered member will need to pay the $25 membership fee. The membership is good through October 1, 2020 and includes the background check and Girl Scout insurance while participating at camp, in events, or with your troop. Parents and family members: volunteering gives you special time with your camper to watch her independence and skills blossom.

Silver Brookilver Brook Day Campay Camp

Sessions at Silver Brook Day Camp are five days and focused on four themes: Outdoor Adventure, The Arts, Sports and Games, and STEM. A great opportunity to explore new interests! Our trained staff and adult volunteers will guide your girl in engaging activities with hands-on learning.

Campers will build their courage and confidence while building friendships with Girl Scouts who share similar interests. And now girls can seek new challenges with Camp Silver Brook’s new badge centered programming!

Badges are an outward recognition of inward growth the Girl Scout way and are a great way for her to explore her interests, learn new skills, and show the world what she’s accomplished. Each week every girl will earn a badge based on the track of her choice. They can also earn the “Be a sister to every Girl Scout” petal (Daisies) or the Girl Scout Way badge (Brownies-Cadettes).

Offering more girl choice than ever before, each week girls choose the area they want to focus on with activities becoming more challenging as she gets older. In addition to earning badges, camp traditions (swimming, boating, target sports, hiking, songs and games, outdoor cooking, and camper’s choice) will be part of every girls’ experience.

Campers are supported by our fully trained staff whose focus is ensuring each girl has the best experience possible. Staff are trained to help girls challenge themselves as they try new activities, expand their friendship circles and become active members of the camp community.

5-day sessions are $185 on or before May 1, $210 after May 1-two weeks before camp. Busing is an additional $55. Fee includes a T-shirt, badge, patch, programming, and some snacks. Marion Chester Read Service Center, Milwaukee Martin Luther King Library, Milwaukee Ives Grove Park and Ride, Racine Summer camp opportunities for girls are subsidized by Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast. This means the cost of providing camp programs and operating camp is greater than the fee paid to participate. For each session, there are three pricing options:

Tier 1 reflects close to the actual cost of operating camp per girl. Replacement supplies, maintenance of the buildings and grounds, and property staff support are included in this fee.

Tier 2 covers approximately 75% of the actual cost of operating camp per girl and is designated for those who cannot meet level 1 criteria.

Tier 3 covers approximately 50% of the actual cost of operating camp per girl.

Select the fee that is appropriate for your family. Flexible pricing does not affect the quality of your girl’s program. The goal of flexible pricing options are to provide the highest quality programs that serve all girls, regardless of their family’s financial situation, and to preserve camp for generations to come. Fee includes a T-shirt, badge, patch, programming, and all meals/snacks.
