Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast
Summer Camps and Events Experiences for Every Girl
Open Houses
At Girl Scouts, girls find a safe space where they are free to be themselves. Many Girl Scouts report that camp was one of the best things about their Girl Scout experience. Camping is a great way for girls to explore leadership, build skills, and develop a deep appreciation for nature. Whether for a day, a week, or longer, Girl Scout camp gives girls an opportunity to grow, explore, and have fun in a supportive all-girl, girl-led environment.
Come see camp with your girl and the whole family, meet camp staff, and help prepare for the summer camp experience. Details on pages 11 and 38.
What will she choose to do this summer? Take some time to check out our summer camp and event options with her by your side. Then visit gswise.org to learn more and sign her up. Be a part of the fun and go to camp with her! Volunteers make camp and events possible. Find out how you can join today! Go to pages 6–7 and 12–13 to learn more.
Day Camp by Community Held in communities throughout southeastern Wisconsin, these camps last for five days and are run by adult volunteers and led by teens. Look for the Day Camp by Community near you.
Silver Brook Day Camp Sessions are three or five days, and each has a different theme. A great opportunity to explore new interests! Located in West Bend.
Alice Chester Overnight Camp Sessions are two, three, five, or more nights and each has a special focus. Girls sleep in a troop house, A-frame cabin, or tent. Located in East Troy.

Girl Scout Law I will do my best to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, and responsible for what I say and do, and to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.

Girl Scout Basics
Who can be a Girl Scout? Membership is available to any girl in grades K5-12 who accepts the Girl Scout Promise and Girl Scout Law and pays annual membership fees (financial assistance is available). A girl who meets membership requirements shall not be denied admission to any troop or group because of race, creed, religion, sexual orientation, citizenship, ancestry, physical or mental disability, health status, socio-economic/public status, or national origin. Women and men, 18 years or older, may join as adult members by accepting the principles of the organization.
Membership This Girl Scout membership year is from October 1, 2018-September 30, 2019. All adults are encouraged to show their support of Girl Scouts by registering as members. To ensure safety for all members, adults who volunteer to work directly with girls must be registered members and pass a background check. Upon registration, members are automatically covered under the basic GSUSA insurance plan. Financial assistance is available. For more information, go to gswise.org.
Learning by doing in a girl-led environment Girl Scouts is an exciting way to engage girls all year round. National studies from the Girl Scout Research Institute (GSRI) show it’s not just what girls do, but how they do it that makes Girl Scouts so beneficial. Girl Scouts is unique because girls get to learn by doing, and they do so in an all-girl, girl-led environment. This means that, in addition to girls learning in a hands-on and active way, they are encouraged to choose their activities, decide which topics they want to explore, and determine how they want to go about exploring them. Girl Scouts is the largest girl-led organization in the world, and is a significant contributor to its members’ success and leadership development.

Extended Year Membership For girls and adults who are new to Girl Scouting: $60 per girl, $35 per adult Extended year membership includes the current membership year fee (valid through September 30, 2019) and the fee for the 2019-2020 membership year (October 1, 2019–September 30, 2020).
Girl Membership Troop: $25 per girl Most girls belong to a troop that meets on a regular basis (usually once or twice a month) over the course of a year. Troops are led by co-leaders who are trained volunteers that want to make a difference in the lives of girls. However, girls are the decision makers in these girl-led troops! That is what Girl Scouts is all about—a place where girls unleash their power. Troops form yearround and girls can join anytime. Individually Registered Member (IRM): $25 per girl Sometimes girls are so busy they can’t fit in regular troop meetings. No worries, girls can still be Girl Scouts and register as an Individually Registered Member. Girls can pick and choose events to attend, those that peak their interest and fit their schedule. They can participate in the financial literacy program and sell Girl Scout cookies to help finance their Girl Scout activities. Parents/guardians of IRMs are encouraged to register as an adult member with Girl Scouts to support and join their girl in her Girl Scout experience.

Adults
As a lifetime member, your dues support programming for girls in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM); the outdoors; entrepreneurship; and life skills, preparing them for a lifetime of leadership, adventure, and success.
Special Adult Rates: Graduating senior: $200 per member Recent high school graduates understand how an inclusive, girl-led environment can change a girl’s life. Parents, grandparents, or troop co-leaders can be a champion for girls changing the world today, and for generations to come, by purchasing a lifetime membership for their graduating senior. As a recent graduate she’ll enjoy a special rate of $200 (regularly priced at $400). Young alumna: $200 per member Anyone who is becoming a lifetime member who was a registered Girl Scout by the age of 18 and is under the age of 30 receives a special discounted lifetime membership rate of $200.
Safety First The safety of girls in Girl Scouting is always a top priority. Troop co-leaders and camp volunteers receive training and materials aimed at creating a safe and welcoming experience for all girls and adult volunteers. Resources such as Volunteer Essentials, Children and Youth Protection Guidelines, and Safety Activity Checkpoints are available at gswise.org.
Background Checks All co-leaders must register and complete a background check to ensure the safety of all girls. Volunteers in roles such as troop helping hands, troop nut manager, or cookie captain are required to complete a background check.
By volunteering with Girl Scouts, you’re helping to provide critical skills like collaboration, conflictresolution, and problem solving. Watch girls gain confidence and stretch to reach their potential, knowing that you helped get them there. Volunteers are always needed, but a minimum of two registered, approved, and unrelated Girl Scout adults must be present at every troop meeting. At least one volunteer needs to be a female, but men are welcome to volunteer too.

Day Camp by Community Led by local adult volunteers. Supported by local teens. Volunteers! You Make Day Camp by Community Possible For each day of camp, one adult is needed for every five to eight girls to follow girl to adult ratio. That means adults from each family and/or troop are needed to volunteer one or more days to make camp happen.
How to Register to Volunteer (details on page 7) Step 1: Register as a member of Girl Scouts at gswise.org and complete an online background check. Step 2: Register for the camp session she will attend. Start at gswise.org/camp and go to CampDoc.
Day Camp by Community
Adults from each family network are needed to volunteer one (or more!) days
Trade a day at work for a day with your girl! You know how quickly girls grow up! Spend a day or two (or five) volunteering at camp and make memories that will last a lifetime. Volunteer or find volunteers from your personal network. Recruit aunts, uncles, grandparents, college students, past campers, and friends. Show up on time ready for fun! Registered adults generally work in pairs and lead eight to twelve girls in a unit.
Teen Girl Scouts Needed! Encourage younger campers to get out of their comfort zones and try new things. We’ll give you the training you need to become a role model for younger Girl Scouts. Bonus: You can earn 35+ service hours in one week!
What does my day look like when I volunteer?
How you will help: Program Aide-in-Training (PAIT) Entering grade 7: Shadow the Program Aides and try leading younger campers in activities.
You will be assigned to be part of a unit or at an activity station with other adults, CITs and PAs. You will be given a schedule, map of camp and resource binder. The CITs and PAs know their way around camp and will help lead activities and get you where you need to be.
Program Aide (PA) Entering grades 8–9: Lead younger campers and adults. Work with an adult mentor to fine-tune your skills.
Your time will be spent • assisting girls in getting to activities on time • making sure everyone is included • helping girls make new friends • encouraging girls as they try new activities You don’t need to be an experienced camper. You just need to want to help girls enjoy camp and be successful. And of course, we want you to have fun too! All camps offer an orientation for volunteers. We want to make sure you feel comfortable when you are at camp and we will answer all of your questions before your session arrives. Troop co-leaders: volunteering gives you a chance to learn new skills to use with your troop during the school year. Plus, you’ll learn lots of songs and games the girls can enjoy at troop meetings. Parents and family members: volunteering gives you special time with your camper to watch her independence and skills blossom.

Alice Chester Overnight Camp General Information and Camper Quiz Flexible pricing Summer camp opportunities for girls are subsidized by Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast. This means the cost of providing camp programs and operating camp is greater than the fee paid to participate. For each session, there are three pricing options:
• Level 1 reflects close to the actual cost of operating camp per girl. Replacement supplies, maintenance of the buildings and grounds, and property staff support are included in this fee.
• Level 2 covers approximately 75% of the
Alice Chester Overnight Camp
actual cost of operating camp per girl and is designated for those who cannot meet level 1 criteria.
• Level 3 covers approximately 50% of the actual cost of operating camp per girl. Select the fee that you feel is affordable and appropriate for your family. Flexible pricing does not affect the quality of your girl’s program. The goals of flexible pricing options are to provide the highest quality programs to serve all girls, regardless of their family’s financial situation, and to preserve camp for generations to come. Questions? Contact Customer Care at 800-565-4475 or customercare@gswise.org.
Check-in and check-out Check-in is 2:30–4:00 p.m. Check-out follows the 30-minute family presentation that begins at 4:00 p.m. on closing day.
Camper Quiz Step 1 Is your girl ready for overnight camp? Take this quiz with her to help you both decide if she’s ready. Keep track of her points as she answers—and encourage her to be honest. At the end of the quiz, add up the points and see our recommendations below.
Girl Readiness Points Scale: 3 = You bet!
2 = Maybe
1 = Not yet
Step 2 Quiz Questions
Points
Do you enjoy overnight slumber parties at a friend’s house? Do you like outdoor activities such as hiking and swimming? Are you willing to try new foods that you haven’t eaten before? Can you go without TV, video games, computers, and a cell phone? Does going on a new adventure make you feel excited? Do you like to meet new people and interact with other girls, not just your buddy? Can you shower, brush your teeth, and do your hair without much help? Do you enjoy being a part of group activities? Are you ready to sleep in a tent or cabin with 4–8 girls, knowing your counselors are in a nearby tent? Are you willing to help with camp chores such as sweeping your cabin, setting tables in the dining hall, and picking up trash? Do you easily make new friends and warm up to new environments? Are you willing to take turns and share with others? Can you sleep at night without a light on?
Transportation You may drop-off and pick-up your girl from camp. If necessary, van transportation is available for a $35 fee. Indicate your desired stop during camp registration. You will be notified a week before your session of the pick-up times. Three stops are available: • Marion Chester Read Service Center, Milwaukee • Martin Luther King Library, Milwaukee • Ives Grove Park and Ride, Racine 26
Are you excited about going away to camp?
Step 3 Add up the points and find out if she’s ready! Less than 18 points: She may not be sure she’s ready for overnight camp. It would be best for her to talk more with you and her friends about the idea. Experiment by trying some of the things mentioned in the quiz or sign her up for a day camp session. 19–24 points: She may want to try a two or three-night camp session. 25+ points: She is ready for any overnight camp adventure! Believe in the Power of G.I.R.L.
