This essay is organised in the form of a collage of texts and quotations, a conversation between the author and various artists and theoreticians about kitsch. It is divided into three chapters. The first one refers to kitsch itself, its definition and historical context. The second chapter is about the relationship between kitsch, mass culture and the ideas of the modernist avant garde. The closing one is about taste. (M.A dissertation, University of Brighton, 1997)
