The essay addresses the issue of refugees through a reading of the evolution and subsequent spatial permanence of the camp entity, investigating its potential development as a city The spatial and political isolation of the camp entity is accepted under the claimed protection assurance and the temporary dimension in which each action inside the camp-space is inserted. However, when refugees' aspired destination remains unreachable, the camp’'s temporary dimension evolves into a “'permanent transience'” where the refugees live a suspended existence of waiting. The research aims to recognise the differentiation of the “'camp condition'”, accordingly to the context in which it is inserted, and its possible evolution as '“urban environment'”, where the shape of the city is the expression and pronouncement of a community that, in its relationship with the space, is no more a 'refugee”'.

CONNECTIONS IN MOVEMENT
Politecnico di Milano Bachelor Degree in 'Architectural Design' Final Design Workshop, 2017 Prof. A. Contin, D. Pisani, M. Moreno Student: Giulia Pantò Location: Bronx, New York City Topic: dealing with the complexity of the metropolis
The architect in the territory of the metropolis faces a condition ruled by complexity and changing scenarios. Within this context, architecture becomes the essential mean through which a new theatre for the development of relationship can be displayed. As architects, we have to build continuous source of images, deal with people's idea of the City. The imaginery built around New York city revolves around majestic infrastructures evoking stability and solidity: These imposing human creations replaced waterways through artificial reminders of division (bridges). The idea of 'stitches' aims to understand urban fractures as potential relational places. The 'stich', opposite to the bridge, respects the breaking in the urban texture and uses these 'collision' moments as promoters for new interactions. The modular intervention grounds on space's temporariness: the given context is modified and re-programmed without any claim of permanence. In this way, the environment contributes to the construction of a recognizable setting. Here, space's spectacle displays under the freedom from temporal obligations, with a continuous reconfiguration that re-establishes an equilibrium within the variable context.

The Cascina Cuccagna is an outstanding presence in the regular urban grid of Milan. It represents the backbone of the contemporary metropolitan city. The project wants to underline the strong presence of the Cascina and to bound together 4 groundfloor plan the area in which it is inserted, working as a guide in the discovery of the space. To deal with a mediatheque in an historic context forces a reflection on the relation between the existing and the new. The context was read as starting point for the development of an envelope that both looks for a dialogue with the city and wants to contribute to its contemporary identity. Tazio Nuvolari's figure, a XX cent. car racer, raised an investigation on Italian futurism, around the topics of speed and empowered imaginery. The building develops as an envelope inside wich the amplified-world of futurism is recreated thorugh the insertion of suspended volumes shaped by the different programs hosted. 3 Approaching Italian historical background asks for a conscious interpretation and respect in action, without preventing the architecture to fulfill its development.
