SOUL P(L)ACE
Carrara Thermal Baths | reTHINKing Competition | 2016 In collaboration with: Alessandro Casa
I’m walking. A mighty marble rock blocks my path but I glimpse a narrow passage: I get in. I can hear the water pouring, I can see some trees, I breathe deeply the smell of nature: I feel relaxed. I keep on climbing, there is a further monolith, I go in, sit down, meet other people, we start chatting, we climb together. Suddenly the thermal baths: just water and woods before us, the endless blue sky and the blinding white of marble. A sense of peace surrounds me: I feel free.

A series of marble blocks mark the ascent to the thermal baths: each monolith is conceived as a space for meditation in contact with nature. On the mountaintop one last block is the threshold of the thermal area which consists of several modules connected by large pools carved in the stone. Each module, conceived for a small number of people in order to facilitate socialization, is composed of four blocks. These blocks host all the typical spaces of Roman baths but the natatio which is in the open air.

Z ATELIER
Redesigned entrance to a photographic studio | Internship: ETB Studio | 2015
A simple architectural form that recalls the most important invention in the photographic field: the camera obscura. Such a concept underlies the new entrance that is to give visibility to the studio and function as a veritable landmark.

KAIRA LOORO
Sacred architecture in Tanaf | Kaira Looro competition for sacred architecture | 2017 In collaboration with: Alessandro Casa
This project fits discreetly into the environmental context reinterpreting traditional patterns while serving an educational purpose and giving the locals the means to implement a sustainable architecture with architectural values. A dome built on a parallelepiped with a square bottom (two geometric shapes frequently recurring in different religious traditions) symbolizing the union of the earth as a square, and the divine as a circle.

The believers of the various religions can all use these spaces. There are no symbols linked to any religious cult, just flexible spaces aimed at meeting the needs (both functional and symbolic) of all religions. Thanks to this flexibility the building can be turned, when needed, into a space where to shelter the locals in case of environmental or health emergencies.

A VIEW INTO THE PAST
Thesis | Project for the conservation and valorization of the Russi Roman Villa | 2016 In collaboration with: Alessandro Casa
The Russi Roman Villa is located in the Po Valley, near the city of Ravenna. The main purpose of this project is to preserve the ancient mosaics and, at the same time, to blend the archaeological site with its natural context as well as to improve the visitor’s experience of the remains (on the right and below the visiting path steps).

The focal point of the visiting path coincides with the building which leads to the park: a concrete blade that allows the sight to break through the trees, a horizontal plane from which the antique can be admired in its entirety. From its rooftop a sixty-step stairway leads the visitor into “the past amplifying the topographical and temporal distance between the archaeological remains and the present city.

The last stop of the visiting path is the very archaeological site. This project - developed within the framework of the bonds imposed by conservation needs related to the protection of the mosaics - is aimed at offering important insights into the Roman remains through a simplified reconstruction of some parts of the ancient Villa.

The analysis of the existing walls represented a key factor in choosing the constructive system of the project. Most of the walls have been, indeed, rebuilt between the Sixties and the Eighties, whereas the foundations are datable to the Roman era. All that considered, it has been decided to use XLAM panels to be connected to the existing walls by means of anchor bolts that shall not reach the foundations.
