The Give it a Go programme is packed full of activities, events and experiences just for students, so why not join in the fun?! All activities are run at a beginners’ level so it doesn’t matter if you haven’t tried the activity before. There’s no strings attached, just pay and play.

Capoeira is an exciting sport that combines martial arts, dance, acrobatics and music. A Brazilian martial art with African roots, capoeira will improve your strength, balance and flexibility, and is a fun way of getting fit. So why don’t you come and join us to find out more about this exciting and unique martial art? Everyone is welcome and we’ll be going for some food and a drink after the session. You can’t miss out! Want to have a go at the most radical sport on offer at UoS? Get your adrenaline pumping, develop rad skills and have an awesome time! Full tuition provided for all abilities, 3 hours of Wakeboarding and return transport. You must be able to swim 25m. We will be back in Sheffield at 6.30pm. Batik Drawing

Originating in Java, Indonesia and now commonly found across the country and Southeast Asia, batik is a technique of applying patterns to clothes using wax and dye. Batik is now widely used for clothing and home furnishings. Join Indonesian Society's newest session to learn how to draw these beautiful and fascinating patterns. No experience needed and you will get to take your piece of art home!

Debunking Myths of Recreational Drugs

Indian Head Massage

Students for sensible drug policy is an amazing student-led society that aims to explore drug use (in medicine, culture, society and more) and campaign for better drugs education and drug policy that is based on science and hard evidence - not misconceptions and myth. During this session we will be talking about some of the myths associated with specific recreational drugs and exploring their effects on the current drug policy in the U.K. This will be concluded with a short quiz, the winner of which will be awarded a prize.

This ancient therapy uses Ayuvedic healing techniques to reduce stress. Bringing body, mind and spirit in harmony by working on the head and charkas. In this session you will learn the theory and practical skills to carry out basic head, shoulder and face massage on yourself and on each other.

We do not condemn or condone the use of drugs; instead we respect an individual’s right to make informed decisions about their own health and well-being. Date: Mon 25th April Time: 5-6pm

Angklung Playing

Angklung is an Indonesian traditional musical instrument made of bamboo, originating from the West Java region. Each angklung has a distinct note; therefore teamwork and coordination are needed. Not only will you learn more about coffee and what separates a wet latte from a dry cappuccino, but you will also get a chance to don the apron, pour the espresso, steam the milk, and craft your very own artisan coffee in the company of our best Baristas.

Come along to UCS for a fun-filled pet therapy relaxation event, with cute dogs! Meet and chat with fellow animal lovers, plus stroke and play with Guide Dog puppies. Learn how pet therapy can relax your body and mind in a safe and comfortable environment. Light refreshments also provided.

Have you ever wondered what spooky secrets lurk in Victorian Sheffield? Take this guided tour around the dark heart of the steel city to discover the ghosts and ghouls of the past! Historical Crime and Murder Tour

Would you like to know what lies beneath the ground you walk on? Could you listen to the truth about the Victorian city you live in? Then come and listen to the true tales of the Sheffield criminals on the Crime and Murder Tour. Learn about the hardships and deeds that took place in the back alleys and courtyards of Sheffield, the murders, riots, prostitution, petty theft and racketeering. Birdwatching at Bempton Cliffs

Join SUBS to Bempton Cliffs RSPB nature reserve where 250,000 seabirds gather to build nests, including puffins! Tickets cover travel costs via minibus (which would otherwise cost £35 by train). Email us at subs@sheffield.ac.uk if you would like to borrow a pair of our binoculars for this trip. Japanese 5 Week Beginner Language Course

Learn Spanish in our 5 week beginner course. Approximately 470 million people speak Spanish as a native language, making it second only to Mandarin in terms of its number of native speakers worldwide! This course is aimed at students who have no knowledge of the Spanish language but wish to learn the basics of reading, writing, listening and speaking, as well as learning more about the Spanish culture. A completion certificate will be given for full attendance.

Come and learn Japanese in our interactive five week beginner course. You will learn basic grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and you will also be introduced to Japanese syllabary and the writing system; calligraphy. A completion certificate will be given for full attendance.

Kids Club Challenge

Zest is a community centre which runs many projects for local community members. Help is needed to get their green spaces and gardens ready for the summer. Volunteers will assist in clearing weeds, digging, and generally refreshing the area.

As a team, you will help to clear older people's gardens, cutting back plants, clearing pathways and weeding, or planting flowers. This is a great way to make a direct difference in the life of local older people with Age UK. Saturday 23rd April

The children in the 150th Sheffield Beaver Scouts need a team of volunteers to help them achieve their problem solving badge. The scout leaders will set a challenge for the children to do and volunteers will help assist them in solving this.

HARC Spring Cleaners

Help tackle food waste by volunteering with The Real Junkfood project and helping to prepare & cook a delicious meal. Using surplus food donated from shops and supermarkets, they will be cooking up a tasty three course meal for local people from the community.

It’s still a long wait until Christmas but HARC have already begun their preparations. Volunteers will help this small charity to clear out their storeroom and ensure everything is ready for their busy Christmas period when they will feed and shelter many of Sheffield’s homeless people.

Refugee School Conversation Playground Club Garden Fiesta

Artistic Extravaganza at the Theatre River Don Champion

Spend an afternoon meeting new people at this friendly conversation club. Chat to refugees and asylum seekers who are looking to improve their English and learn a bit more about British culture. This is an amazing opportunity to get to know people from across the world.

The children at Arborthorne Primary School are looking for some help to brighten up their playground. Volunteering will involve a variety of tasks such as repotting the planters, sprucing up the trees and generally getting the garden ready for summer.

Theatre Delicatessen need help preparing for their upcoming shows and their ongoing art exhibitions with prop making and stage decorating. No experience necessary, just a bit of creativity and a willingness to pick up a paintbrush.

Mount People’s Pleasant Park Project Park

Garden Rescue

Volunteer with Heeley People’s Park team to renovate their 3.5 hectare land in Gleadless. Volunteers will undertake essential weeding, cleaning and planting work on the parks different areas including their wildflower meadow, playground, BMX trail, orchard, and more.

Mount Pleasant Park is a publically maintained green space by Abbeydale Road. Volunteers are needed to help out in taking care of this park to benefit local residents. Volunteers will help by clearing pathways, picking litter and more to revitalise this area.

Moorland House is a residential home in Hathersage that have recently been given a garden for their elderly residents to make use of. Unfortunately this garden has fallen in to disarray and is in need of help to revive it by clearing out overgrown shrubs and to planting new plants.

WOMEN’S MINIBUS For evening activities in the Students’ Union, the Women’s Minibus will take you home to your door anywhere within a 2-mile radius of the Union. The service runs at half past every hour and tickets cost just £1.50 from the Students’ Union Box Office.

WOMENS COMMITTEE The Women's Campaign at the University of Sheffield Students' Union consists of the Women's Officer and the Women's Committee. Together they work to make your student experience free from discrimination and sexism, alongside the other Liberation Campaigns. Look out for the Women’s Committee logo to see events for self-defining women.

All Gallery Rooms, the View Rooms, Uni Central and the Media Hub are on Level 4 in the Students’ Union. The Raynor Lounge, Bar One, Fusion, Foundry and Studio are on Level 2 in the Students’ Union. The Activities & Sports Zone and Coffee Revolution are on Level 3 in the Students’ Union. The Council Chambers, Meeting Room 1, 2 and 3 are in the Octagon Centre, next door to the Students’ Union. No 66 (TV Studio) is situated on Leavygreave Road (opposite the Hicks Building). Goodwin Sports centre is located on Northumberland Road (on your way up to Crookes).

ROOM LOCATION The Residences

The Edge (main reception), Endcliffe Studio, High Tor 1,2,3,4 and 5 are all located at the Endcliffe Student Residences. The Ridge (main reception), Chee Dale, Monsal Dale and Dovedale are all located at the Ranmoor Student Residences. If you are at all unsure where to go in The Edge, Endcliffe or The Ridge, Ranmoor just meet outside the main reception.
