Mixed Self Defence Class

Our self-defence class will give a solid introduction to the concepts of self-defence including: psychology, situational awareness, avoiding confrontation, diffusing confrontation and the actual physical act of defending yourself. You will learn basic blocking techniques, defences to common grabs and strangles, how to effectively strike your opponents as well as vulnerable points to attack when in trouble. To supplement this, some basic combat anatomy will be discussed, enabling you to learn locks and pins to overpower people much stronger than yourself. Wednesday 15th April, 3-5pm, Studio, £3. Outdoor Stunt Cheerleading Climbing

Stunt Cheerleading is a great opportunity to come and try something totally new and different! It incorporates a range of dance, jumps, tumbles and stunts into a routine and we have six skilled coaches who are ready to teach you all of these skills. No experience is necessary - most of the squad have absolutely no previous cheerleading experience when they joined. All we ask for is enthusiasm and a willingness to try. *Stunt cheerleading isn’t just exclusive to girls; we have a few boys on the team already and we are always looking for more!* Monday 20th April, 7-9pm, meet on the concourse at 6:50pm or Brookhill Hall at 7pm, £3. Wear gym-wear, trainers and a come with a positive, cheery attitude!

Join the Mountaineering Club at Lawrence Quarry and receive a four hour introduction into climbing outside in the peak district. This is a fantastic opportunity to experience the sport Sheffield is world famous for alongside some of the clubs most experienced climbers. Wednesday 6th May, meet under the concourse at 1pm, £7. Please come along appropriately dressed for the weather, tracksuits and trainers are ideal. Please bring an extra warm layer and waterproofs if it is raining. Join Lishi Tai Chi Society for this short exercise session to introduce Lishi Tai Chi. Lishi is a fun exercise system that is both slow and fast. Slow Tai Chi, yoga and breathing helps you to relax, feel good and be more connected to your own body. The faster movements in Lishi help you to be agile, dynamic and are excellent for improving fitness. The session is taught by an experienced teacher, with an easy to follow approach. Capoeira

Street Jazz is an energetic class based on a commercial street jazz style of dancing. The class is suitable for all abilities and will include a basic warm up as well as learning part of a routine.

Capoeira is an exciting sport that combines martial arts, dance, acrobatics and music. A Brazilian art with African roots, capoeira will improve your: strength; balance; and flexibility, and is a fun way of getting fit. From kicks to cartwheels, singing to spinning, there’s something for everyone! Zumba & Toning

Bollywood Dance is a mix of Indian classical/traditional dance with influence of western dance forms like jazz and hip hop. This interesting dance form is unique and has its own flavour and merit, mostly spotted in Bollywood movies, Desi weddings, Clubs and more! Part of Bollywood dancing also involves matching your moves to the lyrics of the music. No experience needed, everyone is welcome!

Ditch the workout and join the party! Zumba is an enjoyable workout, so whether you're sick of the gym or just looking to try something new, then give Zumba a go! No skill is required; all abilities welcome, just follow the instructor. Zumba will take place for the first half of the session.

Introduction to Events Management Course

Come along to a basic introduction to the commonly used website, WordPress. In this lesson you will be taught how to code a website, including how to write your own code for images and videos. This is a great session for societies wanting to build their own website, and anyone who has an interest in website coding.

This course is your introduction to the basics of planning and organising an event. You will learn the key aspects of Event Management, and gain skills in how to achieve your objectives in the best ways possible, whether you event is big or small. Alnwick Castle is one of the largest inhabited castles in England and is situated between Newcastle and Edinburgh. It is steeped in history and has been used as a setting in many television series and films including Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and the Chamber of Secrets, and was used in filming for the Downton Abbey Christmas special. Alnwick boasts sumptuous state rooms, filled with remarkable art and furniture, including one of the country’s finest private art collections. Today we will get a private tour to see rooms used in the Downton Abbey 2014 Christmas special episode. We will hear behind-the-scenes details of filming, and learn how a real stately household would operate.

Set in Sheffield's old Woolworths building, this community project has transformed this tired space into a performance space. Theatre Delicatessen need help preparing for their upcoming shows and their ongoing art exhibitions with prop making and stage decorating. No experience necessary, just a bit of creativity and a willingness to pick up a paintbrush. There is loads to get ready so itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s all hands on deck until the curtain falls!

Take part in a football tournament for refugees and asylum seekers and students. Volunteers can help with the organisation of the day or just turn up and play. No skill or experience needed.

Sheffield Students’ Union’s Give it a Go programme is packed full of activities, events and experiences. Every year thousands of students take part in Give it a Go, and you should too!

BUYING TICKETS Tickets for all activities are on sale at the Students’ Union Box Office and are available to buy online www.sheffieldsu.com/events Tickets MUST be purchased in ADVANCE and uCards must be shown at the Box Office. You can’t turn up and pay on the door. Demand for Give it a Go is massive and events can sell out very quickly… please buy your ticket early to avoid disappointment! Unfortunately, all tickets purchased are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged or transferred. If the event organiser cancels the activity, a full refund will be given from the Students’ Union Box Office. Participants will be informed of cancellations via facebook and twitter, and email child where possible.

WOMEN’S MINIBUS For evening activities in the Students’ Union, the Women’s Minibus will take you home to your door anywhere within a 2-mile radius of the Union. The service runs at half past every hour and tickets cost just £1.50 from the Students’ Union Box Office.
