Master thesis THE MONOSTERION year location supervisors
2013/2014 Prague, Czech Republic Juliette Bekkering, Sjef van Hoof
Stvanice island in Prague seemed the perfect location for a new typology of the monastery. It serves as a refuge from the hassle of city daily life, as well as demonstrates the fragility of quietness. The topology of the monastery represents many things in different cultures, but the most precious traits are universal. The objective of this design was to re-create the safe place where one can heal without judgement, but in this case, also without theological restrictions.

TEA HOUSE year
2012
“A world hidden inside, where time flows at it’s own pace, a vacant space leaving an impression just by it’s spaciousness.” Tea House, A1 Architects The design was based on the analysis of the Tent Tea House by Tadao Ando with the objective of creating a mobile tea house, which can be assembled and dissembled on various locations. The shape resembles that of a sea shell creating a separate world within. The waffle wooden structure transmits a feeling of structural security covered by slightly transparent canvas providing a glimpse of the outside world. A wooden platform with 41/2 tatami mats is placed for relaxing and tea drinking.

WORKSHOP year location
2013 TU/e Campus, Eindhoven, Netherlands
This design serves as a temporary extension of the workshop at the department of Built Environment. It’s a place where students would work long, hard hours, and as such it has to be a place of inspiration and creativity. The use of the honeycomb hexagons correlates with it’s origin of the bee hive, during the day the hard-working students glimpse the outside world through the gaps, while at night outsiders view the busy students furiously working inside. Due to the building facing south, the daily hours would be represented by the hexagon shaped lights creeping along the floor until the day ends and they go outside instead.

SERPENTINE PAVILION year location
2013 London, England
The objective was to design a tea pavilion for the Serpentine Gallery at Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park. The pavilion would follow the same requirements and purpose of the annual Summer Serpentine Pavilion, with the added purpose of being a place to drink tea. The design is based on the feeling of sitting under a tree canopy and being able to experience the aromatic plants used for the making of tisane tea. By sitting lower than ground level, the visitors would feel further enveloped by the elements and isolated from the bustling city.

Complete renovation of a property with a vila at Caramujeira. This included alteration of the interiors, re-designing the pool area and garden surrounding the house and designing an outdoor kitchen area. My role in this project was designing all the alterations, both conceptually and on technical drawings, discussing the new design with the clients and making the materials list.
