Blue Water Bridge adjusts toll rates
Tolls for U.S.-bound traffic at the Blue Water Bridge are being adjusted beginning April 1.
Commercial tolls will be $4.50 per axle for ConneXion pre-paid accounts, $5 per axle using cash/debit/credit card, and US$3.75 when paying in greenbacks.
The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited (FBCL) says it last adjusted Canadian toll rates in November 2018 and that the changes are needed to support ongoing operational and maintenance needs and to reflect changing traffic patterns.
It is encouraging fleets to take advantage of the ConneXion prepaid toll program, which is being expanded to include commercial vehicles. Details on the program can be found at www.federalbridge.ca/conneXion.
‘Fleet first’ NACV Show to return to Atlanta in September
The North American Commercial Vehicle (NACV) Show will be held Sept. 28-30 in Atlanta, Georgia featuring emerging technologies and offering improved value for attending fleets and exhibitors. Education sessions will cover topics such as electrification and last mile shipping. New technologies such as electric trucks and trailers, and emerging maintenance solutions and components will be showcased.
The North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE) will be revealing results of its Run on Less – Electric roadshow.
“NACFE is excited to again partner with the NACV Show for the finale of our upcoming Run on Less – Electric demonstration. As we did in 2017 and 2019, this third Run will now allow us to share benefits and challenges that pioneering companies are experiencing with early deployment of battery electric trucks. Those pioneers will be with us in Atlanta to help share their knowledge and experience with attendees so they can learn directly from them,” said Mike Roeth, NACFE executive director.
Thought leaders will share insights into electrification strategies and the industry’s transition to zero-emissions transport. Freightwaves’ Last Mile education program will offer information from OEMs and fleets on challenges and opportunities in the final mile shipping segment.

Mack Trucks has enhanced its standard axle warranty for 2022 MY Mack models – extending time and mileage coverage. Vehicles covered under the enhanced axle warranty include Anthem, Pinnacle, Granite, TerraPro, and LR models. The standard heavy-duty warranty for linehaul, construction and refuse, was extended to 60 months or 500,000 miles (800,000 km) for vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of less than 80,000 pounds or a Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) of less than 143,000 pounds.
The standard normal duty warranty for longhaul, shorthaul or pickup and delivery was extended to 60 months or 750,000 miles (1.2 million km).
EQUIPMENT Maxon liftgates leverage low bed heights
Maxon Lift’s Tuk-a-Way MXT-25 and MXT-33 liftgate models combine a low bed height with a level-ramping ride feature.
Stability and performance come via a twin cylinder, mid-arm design. Both models come with bed height ranges of 38 to 46 inches, and respective lifting capacities of 2,500 and 3,300 lb. And a new MXT knuckling mechanism is designed to work in a “gravity mode” to conserve power.
Each model features a 48×80-inch wedge-type steel, steel/aluminum and all-aluminum platform with optional dual cart stops. Standard features include a bolt-on extension plate and steps, hydraulic locking, grease fittings at all critical rotation points and all steel components come hot-dip galvanized.

ServiceRanger 4 Pro Plus (SR4 Pro Plus) includes a new app center that connects to several options. The first app includes the Eaton Advantage Automated clutch calibration software that can be used to calibrate a new clutch when installing it on non-Eaton and non-Eaton Cummins transmissions such as the Detroit DT12, Volvo I-Shift, and Mack mDrive automated transmissions. The software was developed with the Cojali Group.
EQUIPMENT Magnum stands on guard … with upgraded guards
Magnum has unveiled its new Modular Guard Series – the MG Series – that protects the front ends of North America’s most popular Class 8 trucks.
The guards are available in three levels of protection, designated through the MG-100, MG-200, and MG -300 labels. Each can be installed in just 15 minutes, the company says.
The MG Series complies with Bendix and Detroit Assurance Collision Mitigation Systems as well, and they’re compatible with OEM driving lights, too.
Each model integrates towing provisions, and features a polished finish.

The latest equipment comes on the heels of the Autocar DC-64M for concrete mixers, the DC-64P for concrete pumpers, and the DC-64R for refuse applications. This time there’s a DC-64D for dump truck applications, as well as a pair of cabover models. The DC-64D incorporated more than 100 improvements based on suggestions from industry experts. What emerged, the company says, is a model that offers better stability, a tighter turning radius, and a stronger frame when compared to previous models, the OEM says.

XL Specialized Trailers is boosting its warranty coverage, with a new “5-3-1” policy that features five years of structural coverage, three years of paint coverage, and a year of parts and components coverage.
The five-year structural warranty covers the trailer’s structural beams and the pin connections between those beams and the crossmembers and outer rails of the load-bearing deck.
The paint warranty guarantees against peeling or delamination, cracking or checking of the corrosion-resistant epoxy primer and urethane topcoat.
The parts and component warranty, meanwhile, covers axles, the suspension, landing gear, manufactured components, and the air, electrical and hydraulic systems. The new policy is effective on all units invoiced as of Jan. 1, and is triggered during a retail sale or six months after the trailer is completed.
