..back with a BANG!

I wanna

work

with EVERYONE By Chetna Pundir After a very long time you are making your come back in Bollywood. How does it feels? Yes. It’s been a while that I haven’t worked. It was a conscious effort that I didn’t want to do again random atupid film. I wanted to seen in good cinema wtih good setup, with good star cast, good producers, directors. Unfortunately, my first two films didn’t do very well but I got appreciated for the characters I had played. So, I wanted to wait for the right project to come and you know, this Zila Ghaziabad song has come & I am really happy. It’s fantastic, the response it had and it is beautifully shot by Remo and choreographed by him. So, I am happy. As we know you have done your ‘A’ level education in criminal psychology. What diverted you from that field to the Bollywood industry? I always wanted to be an actress not that I was diverted. It’s just the fact that I had to make the initial step for coming to Mumbai. I am giving stage performance since the age 3. My first stage performance was when I was 3 years old , it was a Sri Devi song. I always wanted to do it but it was just that, the guts and the courage to live away from home, to come to a city I have never been to. To make a life here, to make my dream come true. I am glad & happy. You did your debut film Dil Diya Hai with Emraan Hashmi. Tell us about your chemistry with him ON and OFF the sets? Would you like to work more with him? Yes, of course. He is still my friend I mean we are still in touch. He’s a guy that I loved working with.

22 February 2013

He was really helpful on sets. He was really supportive. We joked around a lot ON sets and even OFF the sets. The moment, there was a shot when we were talking & talking & talking. He is a lovely guy, very humble human being and I am so happy for the success he achieved. It wasn’t that good at box office. Did that affect your career? Yes, I know. I was very new to Mumbai when Dil Diya Hai had started. I was just a few years into Mumbai and I didn’t know the language properly. I didn’t know anyone here but you know, it gave me a great platform and I was presented well. I acted decently for the first film of mine and the songs were superb by Himesh. So, I say yes. It was good to have a film. It was nice, fine! Your relationship with Harbhajan Singh was on hike in media those days. Would you like to tell us something about it? No, I don’t. “NO COMMENTS.” Now to surprise and all gorgeous, you are back with a stunning performance on an item song in Zila Ghaziabaad. How was your experience doing this song and your return with such a BANG? It’s really good. I am so happy. I am glad that I got a chance to perform on a song in Zila Ghaziabad. I love dancing. You know, It’s a latke jhatke kind of, typical masala song. I am loving it and I always wanted to perform on such a song. It’s a very different look of mine. No one has seen me in that kind of get up. So, it also showed ther other side of me as well.

February 2013 23

It was really fun shooting that song on the set. Everyone has done it so well. How much has Bollywood changed? How do you look at actors of today? With whom you look forward to work with? I look forward to work with everyone. See my next film has started. I am doing Jo Bhi Karva Lo with Arshad and Soha. There are so many good directors and producers who are doing good work. I don’t think I can take just one name. I mean I wanna work with everone. Would you like to tell us something about ‘Zila Ghaziabad’? It’s a full action packed film. We’ve got Baba (Sanjay Dutt), Arshad and Vivek at their best. People love seeing them in gangster role and I think this is one of those films that people will really go and watch in the theatre. Anand Kumar is the director and he has done a superb job. And I wish whole team All The Best! How was the experience working with Arshad Warsi, Vivek Oberoi and the co-stars? Yes, it was a good experience. They are so dedicated, so humble and fantastic dancers. They just get it straight away. Everything was like one shot work to them. You know, I had to match with them. Arshad is a professional dancer and anyway everyone knows that. He won the Indian Dance competition, followed by the fourth place in the Modern Jazz category in World Dance championship. He was a choreographer himself so being on a set with him and dancing with him, it was terrifying. I was just praying, I don’t do a bad job. It was really fun, super fun. He is such a nice and noble guy to work with. Are you interested in dancing? You want to do more acting or dancing? I am an actor who can dance. Did you struggle while entering into the Bollywood again? Of course. Life of a actor is always a struggle. It is more difficult because you don’t have a God father who can push you or you know get you more roles, but I think it’s good that I have to do it

26 February 2013

right myself and I can evaluate myself more. It’s been a good journey, very interesting journey for me. Are we going to see you in a more mature role that what we have seen in the past? Yes, of course. I will do whatever I will get the chance to play. I am an actor and you will see a lot more of me. Are there any future projects, you would like to tell? Yes. Two other projects are there that would be starting but I don’t want to talk about it right now. But, Jo Bhi Karva Lo is on the floors. I just shot a schedule with Arshad and Soha. And next schedule would start in Feb. Anything you can tell about? It’s a comedy film. As you have worked as a model and actress as well. Are you open to wearing a bikini on screen, if your role calls it? I can’t say Yes or No. Right now ‘No’ because I wanna work with, what my role requires. I will sit down with the director and see if it necessary, only then. I just don’t wanna say Yes at this moment and anyway wearing a bikini on screen right now is not needed. It really depends on the director and set up of the film. As a person are you a fashion enthusiast? I love fashion. I am very fashionable Off the sets also. What is the secret to your glowing look? Eat well, be happy, drink lots of water. Take care of your skin and workout. How do you keep your body fit and healthy and a positive mental attitude? I believe if you work hard it gives you satisfaction and positivity.. So work hard, be happy and eat right. The most important thing is that eat right. Eat a lot of green veggies and less oily food. How do you describe your style? Be simple and confident.

Fashion fades but style doesn’t “Yeah. See fashion keeps changing, trends keeps changing but if you can wear anything with confidence and right attitude then it is what its all about. You can wear the most simplest things and make it stylish.” - Geeta Basra

If you are a complete beginner or just getting started into fitness then this is going to be one of the most helpful articles you ever read to fast track your success and get you well on your way to seeing some great results. I came up with this idea for an article after receiving countless questions from beginners and seeing a pattern in the questions being asked. Although you will not find specific workout details within this article, you still need to read this to pickup tips, tricks and invaluable information to developing the fitness lifestyle. As a Fitness Freak myself, I know how hard it can be to get started in fitness what with all the overwhelming information out there being offered. Of course, after years of training, trial and error and going through the whole process as well as then winning fitness championships and becoming a certified trainer I now have a much better perspective that I can offer you that will save you from following the same slow timeline I once went through. By applying these tactics I am about to share with you, you will quickly and easily adapt to making fitness and working out a lifestyle instead of just a hobby. I have found these tips to be the most effective and sidestepping years of frustration.

- Rachit Kushwaha

Alright, so let me be the first to say that some of this stuff I discuss today may be very basic to some of you, but just remember; this article is meant for beginners looking for faster ways, shortcuts if you will, to get on track to gaining muscle the right way by avoiding common mistakes. If you are a complete beginner, then great! But, if you are a little more advanced, you can still benefit from this article by simply skimming to points you find interesting. Sound good? Everyone will be at a different starting point so you can understand how it would be impossible to give advice to DEFINING please everyone. But I trust this article will help YOUR the people who STARTING truly need it.

LEVEL February 2013 37

5

common MISTAKES

Mistake #1 – Impatience Yes, you read correctly, impatience is by far the biggest mistake most people make when first starting out in fitness and trying to accomplish goals and body transformations. Nothing happens overnight and there are even people who have been doing this thing for over 20 years who are still learning today so just know it will be a long road ahead. Instead of being impatient, just be sure to enjoy the experience and know that you will get to where you want to be in time so long as you stay committed, open minded and focused.

Mistake #3 - Overtraining Overtraining is a topic often covered but people continue to do it. This side effect can be apparent no matter what your training level is but as a beginner it is important that you understand that training less is the most beneficial to gain muscle and size. In the beginning stages, a person can achieve above average results by training with less volume simply because our bodies are not accustomed to weight training and the stress it puts on our muscles. Take advantage and enjoy the ‘newbie’ gains you will make but understand, that rate of growth you experience will not last forever.

38 February 2013

Mistake #2 – Being Naïve Alright, so I think everyone has been fooled at one time or another and in muscle building, it won’t be any different. You see the majority of people you see in magazines, in competitions or being exposed on every miracle supplement out there did not build their physiques over night. Sometimes you might hear a claim that you can build 10lbs of muscle in 7 days and although you might be excited at first, realize that the likelihood of this happening is slim to none. It’s easy to fall prey to these advertisements but try to avoid this false logic as it will only lead you to disappointment.

Mistake #4 - The Wrong Program Selection

Mistake #5 - Missing The Basics Everyone wants to increase their bench, squat and deadlift or be able to shoulder press the 100lb dumbbells and look like they belong on a magazine cover, but before getting ahead of yourself, have you ever thought about the foundational principles? Of course not because it’s just not exciting enough am I right? But often times, people will increase the weights they use at the expense of sacrificing form and technique which can often lead to injuries down the line.

So if you want to look like someone in particular, you have to workout like them right? Wrong! It couldn’t be further from the truth. Say you see a guy on a magazine cover advocating that he performs a certain workout to get the results you see in the photo. Your initial reaction may be to start using that workout to get the same results. The problem is that it’s not that workout itself that built his body but rather the accumulation of years of training and more than likely several different phases and programs. Be warned, you can perform the workout and you could potentially see good results, but in the end you will need to put in constant effort over time to see noticeable results.

Preparation tips

Preparation Tip #1 Getting the essentials Alright, now it’s time to get prepared outside of the gym. Why you might ask? Well because you might think that theworkouts are the primary reason you gain muscle and you’re not far off, but the real results come from when you combine nutrition and weight training. The key is to stay prepared no matter what the situation. Here is a list of items you should get immediately that will definitely go a long way in the end. Plastic sealable baggies, 2-3 shaker containers, plastic cutlery, herbs and spices and Tupperware containers (glass or plastic). Be sure to keep the plastic cutlery in places like at work, in the car, in your gym bag and anywhere else you think you might need it in case you forgot your home utensils. Also take the time to purchase some assorted nuts and protein powder and store in the same places. I would store the protein powder using the Ziploc baggies. This way you are always sure you have some form of protein and healthy fat source in case you forget a meal at home. Having these items will really help you stay prepared and better enable you to stay on track with nutrition.

Preparation Tip #2 Picking a suitable program Alright, so now I want you to understand how to pick the right program for you. This is where lots of people surprisingly fail because they don’t really know what goal is best for them and it’s perfectly understandable. If you are super skinny, then obviously, you could benefit to pick a mass gaining program where you will gain muscle and bodyweight. If you are overweight, then again, obviously you would pick a fat loss program. But if you have a ‘skinny fat guy’ syndrome then you need to choose wisely. What’s a skinny fat guy you might ask? Basically it’s a person who is skinny but has a gut on them. The best measure is to get your bodyfat measured and if you are above 18-19% bodyfat, I would recommend losing fat first before trying to gain any more weight. If you are under this marker, then you can go ahead and start a muscle gain phase, but just know you would benefit more from it if you were around 10-15% bodyfat. Your local gym should be able to provide you with the bodyfat measurements.

Preparation Tip #3 Focus on proper technique Like I mentioned above, to be prepared for the long road in the weight room, it’s important to learn proper technique and exercise execution. There are countless resources that you can find online or in person at a gym to learn the exercise properly. Now I know, sometimes money is tight and the idea of spending money to learn exercises might not seem appealing, but remember, this is your body and your life and if you don’t perform the exercises correctly, it can lead to many injuries and a potential end to your workout days. 40 February 2013

Learn from online video demonstrations for the basic stuff and if ever you want to get more advanced and learn some more technical moves like Olympic type of lifts, then you can always go to your local gym and inquire about personal training to learn exercise demonstrations. You don’t have to sign up for a big contract at the gym and have them hold your hand for 3 months, unless you are really not confident in your ability, but instead, get them to show you the exercises and then get them to verify your form and technique, then have periodic intervals when you might return to get a refresher. Think of this as an investment instead of an expense. You want to add weight to the bar to get bigger and stronger right? Well then you have to focus on this basic stuff as well and I guarantee it will lead to the biggest benefit in the end.

Preparation Tip #4 Tracking progress properly Tracking progress is one of the keys to getting results. After all, how do you know if you’re making any progress if you never measure it? Get in the routine of including the following habits: > weighing yourself every 2nd week, at the same time of day, before eating and document it > take a progress photo every month > use workout sheets to track your lifts > weekly journals about thoughts regarding training, nutrition, recovery etc.

Preparation Tip #5 Know what you want to achieve In order to hit a target, you have to know where to aim right? Well, the same applies in building muscle and transforming your body. In the last tip we discussed how it’s important to track progress, but you need to first create a reference point or an end target or goal you wish to achieve. Set yourself a one month goal such as I want to gain 7.5lbs in the next 4 weeks or I want to increase mybench press by 10lbs in the next 4 weeks. Set yourself a 6 month goal that is more long term such as ‘I want to stick with my program for 6 months and gain 30lbs. Be specific in your goals and keep them somewhere you can see them everyday to remind you of them. By having a clear direction and end goal in mind, you will be much more likely to come close to hitting it. Knowing what you want to achieve is very powerful so do not neglect it.

Preparation Tip #6 Protein Powder, Multivitamin & Fish Oil A hot topic in bodybuilding is and always will be supplements. As a beginner or even as an advanced lifter, I would not include very many supplements to be honest as I feel they create the false hope of achieving unbelievable results. But that being said, here are the top three I would recommend for a beginner to include that I feel are essentials. Protein Powder: Even if you are new to fitness, you should still know that a good protein powder is essential to build muscle. You will require more protein than the average person not trying to gain muscle and because of this requirement it will be easier to consume the excess protein in a shake form from mixing powdered protein. Multivitamin: A multivitamin should be included regardless of whether you are on a fat burning phase or a muscle building phase. February 2013 41

HEALTH

change

42 February 2013

The answer for including a multi-vitamin should be obvious but just to be clear, a multi-vitamin serves the purpose of providing your body with essential vitamins and nutrients that you might be lacking even if you are in taking a very healthy and clean diet. I like to think of a multivitamin as a form of insurance whereas you can be confident that you’re getting all your recommended daily intakes of nutrients and minerals. However, a multivitamin will not replace bad habits and a bad diet. Therefore I recommend including a multivitamin as well as following a healthy diet rich in vegetables. Fish Oil: Fish oils particularly omega 3’s, are highly beneficial in fighting inflammation in our joints as well as our muscles. Besides the benefit of decreased inflammation, fish oils have also been known to increase the sensitivity on our receptor sites on our muscles to increase insulin sensitivity which as we had already explained above will result in the body releasing less insulin and in turn means less fat storage and more muscle glycogen replenishing. In plain English, your body will be in a better muscle building and fat burning environment.

Preparation Tip #7 Dealing with the ups and downs This is often something fitness professionals don’t talk about but it is a factor that can affect people negatively if they don’t know how to handle the psychology of building muscle. There’s going to be times when you weigh yourself and its not what you expected and you will get disappointed or you might have cheated a bit too much on your diet and gained a bit too much or you might experience a workout where you don’t progress and you have a terrible training session. Now don’t get me wrong, it won’t always be bad. Often times it will be really good, but when you do experience some disappointment be sure to: > Stay positive and realize it’s not a dead end but rather a slight deviation in the ultimate path to your goal. > Get over it fast and then forget about it. Do not dwell on it. > Realize it happens to everyone at one point or another but the main thing is to continue working at your goals. That’s what the people with the best physiques do. They don’t let something stop them when they reach a road block, they go at it even harder and that’s what you should do.

Preparation Tip #8 Finding the common principles to build muscles Every program has its purpose so just find one that you can relate to and give it a go. Everyone will respond differently to different training modalities so you can listen to others opinions about program selection, but an even better option after that is to just try the program yourself to see how you respond to it, then document your results. Continuing doing this process will lead you to find which training programs you got your best results from. Always search for common principles between workouts and authors and replicate those common points as they are more than likely the most powerful and effective strategies. It’s not so much the workout as it is the principles of those workouts; progressive overload, rest and recovery and proper nutrition. That’s it for part 1 of ‘The Beginners Fast Track Guide To Building Muscle – Developing The Fitness Fundamentals’. Stay on the lookout for part 2 where I will share with you my top tips on how to develop the right habits to begin eating the bodybuilder’s type of diet. February 2013 43

Love so beautiful - Priya Patel

L

ove and beauty can be imagined as the two different sides of the same coin. Love, even though being the part of the same coin that beauty is, it is neither wise nor beautiful, but it is the desire of beauty. Like a moth is drawn to light, in the same way people are lured to beauty by love. Love is an emotion, and like all emotions, we are compelled to an action by it. As anger might drive us to violence, against that which is hated, love does lead us to adore that which is beauty. Where there is beauty there is love. For example when we see a landscape that is beautiful, the very first sentence we say is – “it’s beautiful, I love this place.” Even someone’s love for a specific food is a good example. These things represent an aspect of beauty, they are beautiful and therefore incite love in the mind of those who behold them. In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare shows that young men often confuse beauty for love. This happens due to the fact that love and beauty are closely connected. As George Boas says – “the ultimate object of love is the beautiful.” Confusing beauty for love is not good, and can even be deadly, as Romeo seems to have a habit for falling in “love” with beautiful women, and he dies in the end, out of “love”. 44 February 2013

So love and beauty should not be confused. As head and tail are two different sides of the same coin, so is love and beauty. As a coin is incomplete if any side of it is missing so is the life if love and beauty or even anyone of them is missing. Today’s youth sees love in different ways, for someone ones outer look is beautiful to fall in love with, for other someone’s nature is beautiful to love. Someone just love because the presence of their loved ones around them makes their life beautiful. Everyone will agree with the love of parents around them makes their life beautiful, that the beauty of love I’m talking about. When you are around the person you love the most and you feel like you are on the top of the world, that’s the beauty of love I’m talking about. Love is such a feeling that makes people feel alive, and at the same time it is a feeling that can make even worst things in life beautiful. Love someone and you will know the beauty of love, or I must say you will feel the beauty of love around you. So as you cannot separate the two sides of one coin, in the same way love and beauty exist, unseperable. The only question that can never be answered is - “Why one fall in love with beauty?”

LOVE & SEX

Gotcha is filled with confessions from boys, girls, men and women who have been the victim of embarrassing circumstances. In retrospect these moments look so hilarious, that they deserve to be shared.

GOTCHA..

This love issue we decided to ask our readers for some their romantic moments gone embarrassingly wrong.

CELLULAR FAUX PAS I like sexting with my girlfriend. Usually she is very shy about it and has one word responses to whatever I type out to her. This used to annoy me to no end. It made me feel she didn’t trust me enough with hot texts. Eventually it turned into a fight and we both agreed to meet half-way. Two days after the fight, I decided to give my theory a shot. I sent her a very boring ‘What r u wearin?’ text. Imagine my excitement when the reply was an instant ‘black, lacey thong n a pink demi’. I was so happy with the answer that I decide to up my game. We had an hour of awesome to and fro and I can successfully say it was one mind blowing session.

KISS AND BITE Last Valentines my best friend and I went on a double date. Neither of us really knew the boys. We had met them a couple of months earlier at the intercollege fest and they seemed cool enough to date. We decided to go to a newly opened club in town. They also had a Valentine’s party going. So that added icing to the cake. Somewhere along the party, I excused myself to use the washroom. When I came back, my best friend was lip locked with my date! I was so shocked that all I could think of was how to get even with them. I decided to make out with her date just to freak her out! I started kissing her date and made loud moaning and groaning noises to indicate I was having so much fun kissing him. Once I even glanced out of the corner of my eye to catch my friend staring at us. That encouraged me and I threw myself into the act.

The damper was when the last sms read. “Wait till your girlfriend reads these.” I double-checked and realized that I had been texting my girlfriend’s best friend all along! I have saved my girlfriend’s number as ‘HawtR’ and her best friend as ‘HawtR’s F’

I got so carried away that I bit hard on the poor boy’s lip. He screamed and slapped me across my face. I should have been annoyed with him. But when I looked back there was blood trickling down his lower lip. Eventually both of us apologized to each other. But we never met up after that night again.

FLASHY START Pratik has always been the hottest guy in college. I mean, I don’t know of a single girl who does not have a crush on him. Even I had a crush on him. He is cool, funny and absolutely handsome. I am not very pretty. At least I never thought so. So, I was convinced he would never even look at me. A couple of weeks ago we met at the birthday party of a common friend. It was a great party and all of us were having a lot of fun. We had even managed to snuggle some beer to the party. Everybody was a little buzzed. It was getting late and I had to head back home. My friend suggested that Pratik should drop me home as he lived pretty close to my place. I was mortified. I was sure he had not even noticed that I was there. For some reason, he agreed. We got on his bike and those seventeen minutes were the best minutes of my life! He was even nice enough to volunteer to drop me to the entrance of my building. He parked the bike and was getting off it, when his trousers got caught in some hook on the side of his bike and he almost tripped. I moved closer to him, to prevent him from hitting the ground. He was grabbing at anything that would steady him, which at that moment turned out to be my knit top. He pulled at it as he stemmed his fall, flashing my left boob in the process. I was so embarrassed. I quickly rearranged my top and beat a retreat even as he was trying to apologize. He has been texting and calling me ever since. I confess, I quite like it. Anita, 22

You have figured out by now that we will keep your identity a complete secret.

48 February 2013

Q. My boyfriend has forever wanted to make out with me. This has often led me to believe that he has always loved me for my figure and nothing else. We have often fought because I have accused of him of pretending to love me just so that he can make out with me. I have always worried that if I give in and we do make out, he will leave me. But he has been amazingly patient. And now I think I am ready. This valentine’s day I thought the best gift to give him would be my approval to make out. But I don’t know how to do it without sounding slutty or desperate. Please help. A. Every boyfriend dreams of the kind of gift you have in mind. It is not as difficult as you think it is. Boys or men tend to take a hint even when it is not there! You should have no trouble at all letting your boyfriend know what is on your mind. Maybe you could initiate a kiss or something? Don’t worry about coming across as slutty or desperate. Just because you want to make out with someone you love does not make you sleazy. Your boyfriend is going to be the last person to think so. So rest all those worries and follow your instincts. Wish you a terrific Valentine’s day, evening and night!

Q. This is a very awkward situation. I have a boyfriend. We have a long distance relationship. We barely meet once a month. I started working last October. It helped me deal with the distance a little better. I also fell in love with my immediate boss. My boss is married. But, my boss and I like each other. I know he can’t leave his wife for me and I am not sure I love him enough to leave my boyfriend. My boyfriend is an awesome guy. It’s just that he never has time for me. Also, my boss and I share great chemistry. I have been trying to end my relationship with my boss and be honest with my boyfriend ever since Jan. I wanted the New Year to be a new beginning for me. But I haven’t been able to do it. It is a very difficult choice. This Valentine’s Day I was upset at not being able to spend time with my boyfriend. I really wanted to give us a new chance by doing something very romantic. But he does not have leave. To make me feel better, my boss planned a weekend getaway for the two of us. Now I hear from a friend that my boyfriend wants to surprise me by coming to town. I don’t have the heart to turn my boss down. But I want to be with my boyfriend too. How do I deal with this? A. Phew! That’s a long question to ask. The solution is pretty simple. Ditch both of them! You anyway seem to ace at the ‘cheating’ game! And if you go out with a third person, you won’t feel bad about picking your boyfriend over your boss of vice-a-versa. Don’t you have a cute colleague or something? On a serious note, ditch the boss and if necessary the job. Your boss is married. Your boss is a jerk who disrespects his wife and his relationship. You don’t have to be the one who is helping him do it. Secondly, admit it that you do not love your boyfriend. If he is as awesome as you believe he is, he does not deserve what you are doing to him. So either come clean or leave him. It might just work out for the both of you. It is so sad to give someone advice on calling of a relationship this close to Valentine’s Day. But as they say in the west – you gotta do what you gotta do!

Q. I love my girlfriend. A lot. I am possessive. But I do not let her know of it. I don’t want her to feel I am making choices for her or defining who she can make a part of her life and who she can’t. But I think she has misinterpreted my silence as – I don’t give a damn. There is this other male friend of hers. They are uncomfortably close to each other. Quite often, when she is with me, she will still be busy texting him something or the other. It does not help that they work together. If I ask her what they are talking about, she shrugs it off as ‘worktalk’. I have even confronted her on whether she loves him and wants to be with him. She denies it and swears she loves me. Every time we fight over him, she bursts into tears and tells me how I don’t understand that a girl’s friends are as important to her as her boyfriend and how it is important to keep the two apart. We don’t go out together. In fact, she ensures that her friend and I do not meet. That makes me insecure. I don’t want to lose my girlfriend to some other man. But I can’t help feeling I am. Please advise on what I can do. A. Ouch! That is a miserable situation to be in. And extremely painful as well. Give your girlfriend some space. Men often tend to try and be around more often when they feel that a relationship is slipping away. This annoys the women to no end. They want some space to think without the man in question around. Your absence might take her closer to her friend. But if all it takes for her to forget you, is the lack of your presence, your relationship has not much of a future anyway. On the contrary, this could work for you. Your absence might make her appreciate your presence all that much more! The solution is to give her the space to make her mind up for herself, instead of forcing her into a decision. Forget about her friend. Pretend he does not exist. Don’t discuss him with her. She wants a friend who is not her boyfriend? Let her have him! He most probably is just her latest fascination and she is soon going to grow out of it. Be patient. February 2013 49

It’s the small things She flicked an angry glance at her wrist watch again and gritted her teeth. She ought to have left those fifteen minutes earlier. It was the only way to avoid the mad peak hour rush. But then the client had called. She had actually paused in front of the lift and debated taking the call while on the move. Curse her senses for vetoing that decision. For the past half hour she had barely moved more than a hundred meters. It would be hours and hours before she actually got home. She punched the horn angrily and took some satisfaction in its atrocious blare. She turned to look out of her window and that’s where she spotted them. He must be in his late twenties and she must be just a couple of years younger to him. He was in the driver’s seat and she was sitting next to him laughing at something he said. She was not pretty per se. But the warmth of her laughter shone through a merry sparkle in her eyes, making her an object of instant envy. He noticed it too. His laugh sobered into a smile and all the love he had for her filled up his expressions. He reached out and tucked a stray strand behind her ear. She rubbed her cheek against his palm. The traffic did not bother them. They seemed oblivious to the stares they were receiving from other car drivers. In that moment, in their car, it was just the two of them madly and deeply in love with each other. She hastily diverted her eyes back to the road. She felt guilty about spying on their private moment. She stared unseeingly at the bumper of the car in front of hers. It used to be like that between them. All those years ago. This was them. He would pick her up from work. They did not have two cars back then. All they owned was one little blue Estilo. It was all they had wanted. She would travel to work with a colleague and look forward to the end of the day when he would drive up in their blue car. She always imagined herself to be a princess waiting to be swept off her feet by her prince charming who would come by driving his blue chariot. They would talk all the way till they reached home. If they ever got in traffic, she would thank the stars. It meant more time with him. Soon long conversations turned into petty fights. Finances, expectations and aspirations replaced romantic conversations. The car drive became more of a daily meeting to chalk out plans for a secure future. This future had money, security, facilities but no mention of love. From two people who could not live without mentioning love they had evolved into people who thought of everything but love. Not that they loved each other any less. They just stopped feeling the need to let each other know how much they were loved. The traffic moved a little and she eased her car forward. The thought saddened her a little. She would not mind being told she was loved. She would not mind receiving a compliment every now and then. She would not mind the occasional flowers. She would absolutely love a phone call which had no reason. When was the last time he called ‘just because’? When was the last time they talked just because he liked the sound of her voice?

that count..!!

- Hitesha Deshpande

When was the last time she called him to say ‘I love you’? She frowned. It was not just him. She had gotten lost too. Try as she might, she could not remember the last time she did something for just him. Not for them. Not for the house. But for him. That’s it! She took in a deep breath and squared her shoulders. Today was going to be different. Despite the traffic, she slowed down before a video store. She brought ‘The Avengers’ and before she could change her mind, got if gift wrapped. Despite her delay, he was not home when she reached. Perfect! She took a quick shower and wore the peacock green top he had gifted her three years ago. He said he loved that color on her. She hurried to the kitchen and popped some microwave. After setting some beer next to the popcorn on the center table, she tore off the wrapping and pushed the DVD into the player. She tied the satin ribbon on the remote control instead. She was just about done when the doorbell rang. He looked tired but he still managed to smile for her. If he noticed her top, he did not mention it. Pangs of disappointment started gripping her heart. She shook her head. This was not about her, she reminded herself, this was for him. He took his own sweet time to freshen up. As was habitual he stepped into the living room and got comfortable in his corner of the sofa. He leaned his head back and muttered, “You still fit into that top!” So he had noticed. She smiled slightly. His words were far from a compliment. In fact, they were downright rude. But he had noticed. And for a moment that’s all that mattered. He sat up straighter, worked the kinks off his shoulder and looked at her, “ and you still look heart stoppingly gorgeous!” She laughed and hugged him. That’s when he noticed the beer and the popcorn. He frowned at her, “something special?” He asked. She fished out the remote control with the satin bow and handed it to him. “Nothing really,” she said. “Just.. Happy Valentine’s Day, I guess!” He widened his eyes fractionally and grabbed the remote. When the TV screen started running the movie, he threw his head back and laughed. “You really want to watch Avengers with me?” He challenged. “If that is what you want to do,” she shrugged. The door bell rang announcing a visitor. She winced. They had managed to get a romantic moment after years. Trust someone to spoil it for them. She angrily got to her feet and headed to the door. At the door was a bunch of gorgeous red roses with a handwritten note, “Dear wife, Happy Valentine’s Day, I guess!”

Rate your romance quotient How romantic are you? Do you put the Badhsah of Bollywood to shame or does your love story deserve to be an inspiration for the next M&B novel? If your answers are: Mostly a:

!

The Mythological Couple 7. Choose one of the following which comes closest to describing your relationship: a. A journey where you discover something new along the way all the time b. A rose, which despite some thorns, is the most beautiful flower c. A roller coaster ride, which keeps you on your toes all the while 8. Life without your partner would be a. Worse than death b. Boring, unhappening and predictable c. Unthinkable 9. What would you do if your partner gifts you something you do not like: a. It’s not the gift, but the thought that counts b. You would be honest because that’s what being in a relationship is all about. c. You would lie, because it would make your partner happy. That’s all that matters 10. Something that always makes everything alright is: a. A hug or kiss from your partner b. Just being in the same room as your partner c. Your partner’s smile

Think Paris and Helen. Think Orpheus and Eurydice. Think mythological romances which make every heart sniff with pride and of course love. You are that kind of a couple. You are a couple drenched in the essence of romance. Your love for each other rules your lives and governs almost all your decisions. You love each other with a passion which, let’s face it, can sometimes scare the living daylights out of someone! But you don’t care! All you care for is the love you have and share and for a really long time that’s all you will ever want. Mostly b: The Grounded Couple Yes you love each other. No, you won’t cheat on each other. But that does not mean you are going to break into a song and dance at the drop of a tear. You don’t disregard emotions but you do not center everything you do around them either. And lucky for you, you have a partner who thinks just like you. You are balanced and some might mistake that for being unemotional. But as long as neither of you are complaining; who cares? Mostly c: The Love-dovey duo Awwwww. That’s what everybody says when they bump into you! The way you love each other is adorable. You make space for your partner every time and nothing you do for each other will ever be enough. You appreciate being in love. You realize life is too short and love offers just way too much to experience. This is also why you believe in making the most of every single moment! February 2013 53

LUXURY

BMW 320d Luxury Plus

T

he Luxury high end diesel variant 320d Luxury Plus comes with panache exteriors, the luxury drips right from the wheel structure which are a massive 17’’ aluminum wheels with multispoke styling, the air intakes with line specific design in chrome and exclusive designed kidney bars in chrome with 11 slats and chrome line exteriors with end pipe finisher also in chrome, all speak about the massive grandeur. The fuel economy of the car is 18.88 kmpl with extremely low CO2 emission 140.03 gms per kilometer.

Exterior design The new BMW 3 Series Sedan systematically continues the design tradition and features of the BMW brand. The sportingly elegant exterior creates the effect of coming from one single mould and conveys aesthetics and dynamics at first sight. Even in its sixth generation, the most frequently sold BMW vehicle in the world sets standards.

February 2013 67

Interior design The interior of the new BMW 3 Series Sedan impresses with its high-quality selection of materials. It encloses the driver with classical driver guidance, creating a cockpit feeling. Skilful space design gives optimum access to all the important control functions on the instrument display.

Functionality Design and functionality need not be opposites. The best example of this is the interior of the new BMW 3 Series Sedan: Innovative functions and ergonomically positioned details leave room for what is most important: sheer driving pleasure.

BMW TwinPower Turbo engines For the new BMW 3 Series Sedan, ten high-torque, low-consumption engines are available, which all work with modern BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. They are the powerful heart in the BMW 3 Series Sedan – and the definition of maximum driving dynamics.

BMW TwinPower Turbo diesel engines The new BMW 3 Series Sedan only makes use of economical four- and six-cylinder diesel engines with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology.

BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engines The lively 2.0-litre engine in the BMW 3 Series Sedan is the strongest power unit in a new generation of particularly efficient four-cylinder spark ignition engines, which are technologically derived from the award-winning six-cylinder petrol engine.

Chassis Supreme driving comfort while maintaining maximum handling, agility and accuracy. These requirements may seem to be almost mutually exclusive. And yet the chassis of the new BMW 3 Series Sedan solves the contradiction with ease.

BMW xDrive The BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system enhances traction, directional stability and safety. And particularly so when adverse conditions call for more power to be applied to the road.

Aerodynamics The design of the new BMW 3 Series Sedan is systematically geared towards the BMW EfficientDynamics philosophy. The aerodynamically optimised front apron and the underbody, in particular, impress with their innovative new features aimed at reducing drag and fuel consumption.

8-speed automatic transmission The most dynamic and comfortable way to save: the 8-speed automatic transmission not only ensures incredibly soft changes and reduces background noise at high speeds, it also significantly reduces fuel consumption. The transmission can be combined with all power units, including entry-level engines.

Intelligent lightweight construction BMW saves on weight, while you save on fuel consumption. Intelligent lightweight construction reduces fuel consumption and improves driving characteristics. A shining example of how to unite efficient and dynamic driving. Even in the new BMW 3 Series.

Contactless opening of the tailgate You’re standing behind your new BMW 3 Series with your hands full of shopping and want to load the boot. So now you need to search your pockets to find the car key. Or do you? No, not any more. With innovative Comfort Access as special equipment you can open the tailgate without making contact. One well-placed movement of the foot is all that’s needed.

iDrive Many functions, just a few buttons: with the iDrive system you have full control over all functions of the new BMW 3 Series Sedan, from navigation system to integrated operating manual. Simple and intuitive. The iDrive system is integrated as standard in every new BMW 3 Series Sedan model.

Park Assistant The Park Assistant from BMW Connected Drive provides you with support when searching for parking spaces. And helps you to manoeuvre safely and conveniently into parking spaces parallel to the direction of travel.

Real Time Traffic Information In addition to the data that already exist today, the innovative service from BMW ConnectedDrive also uses municipal traffic data and anonymised movement profiles from mobile phones in the cellular network in order to calculate continuously updated traffic data in real time. As a result, you will always be able to react in time to adverse developments on your route.

Rear View Camera and Surround View A clear view in unclear situations with innovations from BMW ConnectedDrive: up to five cameras give the BMW 3 Series Sedan a new view of any situation.

Lane Departure and Lane Change warning Driving with instinct: the new BMW 3 Series Sedan provides discreet support and active assistance to avoid dangerous situations. Radars and cameras monitor conditions and warn the driver of lane changes and vehicles coming too close. February 2013 71

Verdict: The diesel engine on the BMW 3 Series is really frugal as it returns a good fuel economy. Generally, luxury car buyers aren’t worried about fuel economy, but this is just an add-on advantage. The power on the diesel is good, but that on the petrol is mindboggling. The turbocharged petrol is a real gem. The interiors of the 3-Series have seen a sea of changes; functionality remains similar but almost every bit has been revised or replaced. The 3-Series now gets satellite navigation also. Both the engines fulfill their job and both are for different purposes. If you travel a lot, then the diesel makes sense. If you are bonkers about performance, there is no better option than the petrol engine. The handling of the 3-Series is fantastic and it is one of the best handling vehicles in its segment. However the ride is a bit harsh and also the steering is heavy for city driving. The safety features list on the 3 Series is long, just like that on any other luxury car. The BMW 3 Series comes loaded with various features like cruise control, start-stop system in traffic and heads-up display.
