The law of succession
T
he death of Queen Elizabeth II caused a shock in the United Kingdom and in many Commonwealth countries at which she was also the symbolic head. Admittedly, her disappearance did not surprise many people because we knew she had been suffering for a few months, but it must be said that the event it self aroused great emotion, especially in view of her incredible and unprecedented longevity on the British throne. Indeed, never before has a king or a 2

sultan reigned as long as 70 years as this sovereign, oh so loved and adulated in her country. It will thus take a long time for the British to realize the departure of their queen to whom they are very attached. A queen who embodied, moreover, an entire era and whose history will remember what she was, throughout her life, the guardian of British traditions but also a respected great lady, resolute and above all devoted to the crown. But what about the laws of nature that often catch up with us with its
rules of regeneration and succession?. Sooner or later, change will come and the crown will end up being passed on to new generations. The US Open 2022 organized this year in New York from August 29 to September 11. This great small ball competition has revealed the emergence of new young champions, in the person of the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz who won this Grand Slam when he was barely 19 years old and Iga Swiatek who dominated the ladies tournament.
This 23-year-old Polish woman who previously won the Roland-Garros Open is establishing herself as the new queen of courts, while Serena Williams, the former star of women’s tennis, hangs up and announces her retirement, after this competition. Small ball lovers will not soon forget the American player who won so many titles, going on to become the sole record holder for the number of single titles won in Grand Slam tournaments. The other cultural event, in this
case is the 48th edition of the American Film Festival which took place in Deauville France from September 2nd to September 11th. During this cinematic meeting, Charlotte Wells succeeded Diego Ongaro by winning the festival’s grand prize thanks to her feature film «Aftersun». This feat could not be more remarkable, especially when we know that this Scottish director established in New York does not exceed the age of 35.
This shows how useless it is, once again, to oppose this terrible law of nature which compels us to decline renewal and succession. However, we can only wish good luck to the new champions and other winners, while paying tribute to those among the celebrities who have left us or drawn their cultural or sporting bow. T
he United Kingdom is in mourning. Queen Elizabeth II has just died at the age of 96 in her Scottish residence of Balmoral. The sovereign bowed out on Thursday, September 8th, the royal family announced at 7:30 p.m., after a reign that lasted 70 years. She left, taking with her a whole section of the country’s history. Her longevity on the throne all in is incredible, since no king or sultan before has reigned as long as this so much loved and admired queen, in the words of British Prime Minister Liz Truss. At the end of her visit to Her Majesty, two days before her death. The disappearance of Elizabeth II, if it did not surprise anyone because we knew she had been suffering for a few months, however, aroused immense emotion in the United Kingdom and in many countries, in particular those of the Commonwealth of which she was the symbolic head.
Thousands of Britons rushed, as soon as the news was announced, in front of Buckingham Palace in London, to pay homage to her. It will now be difficult for them to imagine the world in the absence of their queen who has marked their minds for seven decades. The face of Elizabeth II wearing her favorite hat will undoubtedly haunt them for a long time. Some of her subjects have already declared having seen, during the days following her death, the silhouette of Her Majesty in the clouds. On the official side, a period of national mourning has been declared and which must last up 12

as «a great loss to the British people».
Flags were flown at half-mast on government buildings and those associated with the royal family. Churches, chapels and cathedrals across England rang their bells the day after the Queen’s death, the BBC immediately broadcasted «God Save the Queen».
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres was no exception. He, in turn, underlined the «grace, dignity and devotion» of Elizabeth II whose presence was, he wrote, «reassuring throughout the decades of far-reaching change».
Thus, the death of Elizabeth II moved citizens and officials of this great Western European country, but it also made leaders of this world react, who also hastened to pay tribute to the late queen. .
This shows how much the disappearance of the Queen has moved so much, raising strong reactions of sadness and pain throughout the world. In London, they were already thousands to come, from September 14th, to meditate on her coffin exposed in Westminster Hall at the seat of parliament, while awaiting her funeral scheduled for Monday September 19 to allow some five hundred heads of state and monarchs to attend the final farewell to the sovereign who marked an entire era.
Joe Biden, the American president was the first to react. He will say in his statement that «Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, was more than a sovereign. She embodied an era». Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Elizabeth was their queen too, and had «an obvious and deep affection for all Canadians.» French President Emmanuel Macron, the late sovereign was described in his message of condolences, as «a friend of France and a queen of hearts who forever marked her country and her century.» German Head of State Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chinese President Xi Jinping also offered their heartfelt condolences to the UK. In their messages, they both hailed the memory of the deceased, described by the former as «a symbol of reconciliation between her country and Germany because she contributed so much to healing the wounds of the Second World War» and by the second,
A life devoted to the crown Indeed, the longevity of Queen Elizabeth II on the throne of the United Kingdom will forever be inscribed in the annals of history. It would be hard to imagine that another monarch could one day reign as long as the late sovereign. She has indeed broken all records, going so far as to celebrate, last June, its platinum jubilee, marking 70 years at the head of the British monarchy. In addition, Elizabeth displayed, throughout her reign, wisdom, moral rectitude and unwavering faith in managing the inextricable affairs of royalty. She succeeded in modernizing the crown, leaving her heirs a monarchy more alive than ever.

With her disappearance, an uncertain era is beginning for the monarchy, it will be difficult for her successor to have the charisma and aura of the late sovereign, to be able to exercise her royal responsibilities in a period that promises to be most difficult. However, the beloved young queen of British was not, during her early childhood, destined for the throne. She was only third in line. It was by a combination of circumstances that she acceded to the British throne following the renunciation of her uncle Edward VIII and the premature death of her father George VI in 1952. Since then, she became Queen of the United Kingdom at the age of 26, reigning over fifteen nations as well as the entire territory of the Commonwealth, an intergovernmental organization made up of 56 states, of which she was the honorary head. The young Elizabeth, however, managed to impose herself and win the hearts of her subjects, because she did not visibly wait for her enthronement to put herself at the service of the crown and her people. Indeed, from the outbreak of the 2nd World War, she rolled up her sleeves and participated, with her younger sister Margaret, in the war effort, knitting socks and making bandages for British soldiers. She did not hesitate, thereafter, to enlist in 1942 in the Grenadier Guards, an infantry regiment of the Royal Guard, before joining the Auxiliary Territorial Service, the female branch of the British army. She didn’t mind getting her hands dirty repairing and driving all sorts of vehicles. 14

US President Joe Biden, accompanied by First Lady Jill Biden, signs a book of condolences at Lancaster House in London, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II
On the death of her father, she was crowned on June 2, 1953 at Westminster Abbey in a ceremony broadcasted live, and for the first time, on radio and television, she declared, on this occasion, that she would serve the Kingdom and would never abdicate «unless she suffered a stroke or developed Alzheimer’s disease». She thus kept her bet because she knew throughout her reign, to stay above the political fray. «Always dedicated, always resolute, always respected, representing wisdom and continuity», David Cameron said of her on the occasion of her diamond jubilee organized in 2012. Thanks to her qualities, she was able to overcome hardships, storms and political scandals, in particular the assassination of her uncle Louis Mountbatten in 1979, the separation and divorce of three of her children in 1992, the death of her daughter-inlaw Diana Spencer in 1997, the simultaneous disappearances of
her sister and her mother in 2002 and especially the death of her husband in 2021 after more than 73 years of marriage. On the international level, it has certainly played a symbolic but no less important role. She was received with all the honors wherever she went. Although representing a constitutional monarchy, she was the interlocutor of illustrious personalities: Kennedy, Nixon, Charles de Gaulle, Jean-Paul II, Gerhard Schröder, Jacques Chirac, Nelson Mandela, Angela Merkel, Barack Obama... Today, Queen Elizabeth II is no longer there, but history will remember that she has always been the guardian of British traditions. Very religious and still feeling invested with a sense of royal duty, she passed away peacefully, leaving her successors a monarchy more stable and stronger than ever. F. M
CHARLES III
immediately proclaimed king
T
he post-Elizabeth II period promises to be quite complicated. Her eldest son, who was immediately proclaimed king of the United Kingdom, will find it difficult to face the challenges of royalty. He has neither the stature nor the popularity of the late sovereign. Moreover, and according to the polls, the British rather prefer Prince William and his wife Kate. It must be said that the story of his infidelity and his separation from Princess Diana, the beloved of the British people, is always remembered. The mission of the new king, who will now bear the name «Charles III», promises to be difficult, especially since the royal institution has recently been shaken by a series of scandals: accusations of sexual assault in the United States against his brother Andrew , allegations of racism against the royal family launched by his son Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, recently settled in California because it seems cold with the rest of the family. But against all odds, the now Charles III paradoxically finds his accession to the throne, on Saturday, September 10th a whole new popularity. The crowd that attended the ceremony was visibly won over and jovial, the cheers of many people who came to admire it that day seemed sincere indeed. The empathy aroused by the death of his mother and especially his successful speech as king delivered on September 9th have indeed changed things. He acceded the throne at the age of 73, Charles III was little known, but since his speech, the British have discovered a king with a warm voice and a very human intentions. The reactions are also unanimous in emphasizing the positive impact of his inaugural speech on public opinion. Charles III signed an excellent start to his reign by succeeding in his baptism of fire at the head of the United Kingdom. It will certainly be difficult for him to beg a queen whose image is now anchored in the hearts of the British, but he could be just as successful if he imprinted a new style on the management of the affairs of royalty. A style that will undoubtedly, according to observers, break with the neutrality of Queen Elizabeth II.
In any case, the themes developed during his first speech could not be better. His interest, for example, in environmental causes and social equality could give him sympathy and make him, in the future, as popular as his late mother. The opening state of Parliament attended by King Charles III.

Mickaël Serfati A multi-talented karate champion

ickaël Serfati is a French champion who has not ceased, for several years to make headlines and to be talked about in the world of martial arts. His notoriety today is such that he is known and recognized internationally. Born in Paris on February 28, 1989, this young athlete grew up in Bondy in the 93 like a certain Mbappé who is today a great star of French football. Like the latter, Mickaël very quickly also became a great karate champion. But it must be said from the outset that nothing was fortuitous for him in this dazzling success because, from his childhood, he was promoted to achieve great performances in this combat sport. Indeed, his destiny as a great champion was naturally traced since little Mickaël comes from a high-level sporting family, which amply helped and supported him in his career as an athlete. His parents Daniel and Sylvie were also champions in this discipline. The father, a big name in French karate, even managed to win the title of European champion and the mother herself is a karateka and champion of France. The same is true of his brother Davy and his sister Sandy who are just as high level karatekas. His uncles Jacques and Serge Serfati are no strangers to this discipline either since they were also former members of the French team. This means that Mickaël was born on a tatami so to speak, a kimono and gloves in his hand. Moreover, the dad has always been his trainer and manager throughout his sporting career. From the age of 15, Mickaël succeeded in winning his first title of champion of France during the
18

French Juniors championships in Gravelines. This first consecration encouraged and stimulated him to win other titles of champion of France, individual, team and university. He won his first national Senior medal in 2010 in the French cup before he became, at the age of 21, European vice-champion in the 78 kg category at the European Karate Championships organized in Izmir, Turkey. He then followed up with another, more precious title, by winning the world university team championship. In 2011, he once again climbed the podium by winning 3rd place in less than 84 kg at the 2011 Paris Open, a competition considered by specialists to be the most difficult in this combat sport. He did it again, during the same year, with another title of vice-champion of Europe by teams at the European Karate Championships. During the years that followed, he multiplied his performances by winning several other titles, including the French Pro Championship in 2012 at Halle Carpentier in less than 84 kg in a category of a very high level. He achieved, that day an exceptional
performance since he did not collect any point on all his fights of the day. In November of the same year, he won the French cup in the same category, totaling a historic double.
In 2014, he left to conquer the USA. He stayed there for 3 months and won the title of the New York International Open. He eliminated, on this occasion, a tough Senegalese international as well as the reigning heavyweight champion but also Pan American champion. On his return, he regained his title of Champion of France in individual and team. Yet another double for this young Mickaël who definitely continues to surprise! 2015 return to the American

school. Mickaël for example, despite his passion for karate, did not neglect his school and university studies. He now holds a STAPS license, a management license from EMLV (Leonard de Vinci School of Management) in which he had high-level sports facilities worthy of the great American schools. He then obtained a master’s degree in e-business marketing.
These numerous titles have brought him to the fore, becoming fourth in the world rankings of the World Karate Federation (WKF) in less than 84 kg and signing, moreover, a partnership with Venum, making him a unique karateka in the world under contract with this sponsor.
This year, he is still remembered by this school as one of their greatest successes, especially since he was named «Godfather of Olympic Week» in January 2022 and even hosted a conference on the occasion.
But what commands admiration in Mickaël and the Serfati is not so much the titles won by the family, but it is above all, their ability to organize themselves and to reconcile sport and
All these physical and intellectual abilities obviously allowed him to follow in his father’s footsteps to become a trainer and karate coach. He also teaches in the mythical room of Maccabi Paris directed by Franck Attia but also and regularly in New York and Houston. His presence

in the USA to train American karatekas is due, according to specialists, to his know-how and especially to his French method which seems to be very appreciated in this country. He is also often called upon in France to introduce several celebrities known to the general public to karate (actors, directors, singers, comedians, etc.). Alongside his coaching activities, Mickaël gives seminars on his discipline in many countries such as France, the USA, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Israel and 20

borations and participating as a model for shootings of young brands. He also parades for several brands, notably for Pierre Talamon and Zacometi and even during Paris Fashion Week which was held in 2016.
In 2015, he was spotted by fashion professionals who offered him to be a model. It must be said that Mickaël, with his captivating physique, is also a handsome man with a pleasant and ultra-resistant appearance. He thus began his artistic career by doing photographic colla-
Still 2015, he tried a great experience in cinema by joining the stunt team of the film “Raid dingue” by Dany Boon. Three years later, he was again asked to play in another film with Anna by Luc Besson, still under the aegis of Alain Figlarz.
He also made numerous appearances on television, notably on the French channel C8. He participated in it every evening live, for two months, in a program called «A take or leave» hosted by the dynamic Cyril Hanouna. All these activities did not take him away from the tatami and sports tournaments. He also recently participated in the Maccabiah games organized in Israel last July, knowing that he is the reigning champion of this competition since he had won its last edition in 2017. Today, he joined the famous club Sarcelles Karate. He intends, he tells us, to «work hard to achieve another great season». Mickaël Serfati, in view of all this fabulous career when he is barely 33 years old, is today a perfect model for all young people in the world wishing to succeed in the actions they undertake. Provided, of course, that they show like him, self-sacrifice, modesty and this ability to reconcile studies and high-level sport but also and above all to work hard and never give up. F. The eternal romantic city

Venice, the famous Italian city leaves no one indifferent. It has always made travelers dream and react, but also poets, artists and writers. Nietzsche confused it with the word “music”. Chateaubriand described it as “a magnificent woman who is dying”, while Jean d’Ormesson saw it rather as a city “which always comes back to life and which continues indefinitely to sing its ”eternal opera in the Adriatic .

A trip in this type of transport is more than necessary to immerse yourself in this romantic atmosphere but also to discover, more closely, the cultural and artistic heritage of this attractive city.
Founded in 568, this city of dreams is located in the northeast of Italy in a lagoon of the Adriatic Sea. It is a coastal city but which extends, quite exceptionally, over a set of 118 small islands separated by a network of canals and connected by splendid bridges.
The tourist will undoubtedly appreciate its Grand Canal, its many churches, its Saint Mark’s Square, its Doge’s Palace and its famous Bridge of Sighs where visitors as a couple meet to seal their love. This rich cultural heritage and its architecture have earned it a UNESCO World Heritage listing.

Venice is today a high place of world tourism. It is even threatened by the influx of millions of tourists who come each year to discover this magical city where glamour and history mingle. This interest is due to the fact that the Italian city is in itself a real wonder with a multitude of tourist sites as interesting as each other. We will visit, for example, Ca’ d’Oro, one of the most beautiful Gothic palaces which also houses a magnificent art gallery. One could also go to the island San Giorgio Maggiore which is in front of the Doge’s Palace. We will appreciate the church and its bell tower, as well as the Cini foundation which also houses a center of art and culture.

You should not miss your stay in Venice either to go to San Marco, one of the most famous squares in the world. Located in the heart of the city, this square is the nerve center where thousands of tourists converge to visit its basilica in particular, but also many other architectural marvels. Another no less attractive site that must be visited at all costs. This is the famous Lido of Venice, a coastal strip stretching over a dozen kilometers between the lagoon and the 2

The city is also renowned for its cultural activities, in particular its contemporary art events organized by the Venice Biennale, but also for its international film festival called «La Mostra de Venise» and which is, in this year 2022, at its 79th edition.
But Venice will remain, above all, the city that best symbolizes love and dream of ecstasy. Because it knows how to offer couples romantic moments and places: a gondola ride in its Grand Canal, a sunset on its Lido, a stopover on one of its stone bridges or a stroll in its narrow and dark. F. M

D
ied 60 years ago, one of the most famous icons of American cinema, Marilyn Monroe. This American actress who bowed out one day on August 4, 1962 was, indeed, a Hollywood star, even a legend who has not ceased until today, to inspire artists around the world. The beautiful and sensual Marilyn was so seductive at the time that her memory remained forever vivid in the minds of her fans and all lovers of American cinema. Besides, her tragic death at the time shocked the whole world, so much did she mark the 7th art with her talent. Yet this blonde with luscious measurements only had a short life. She was only 36 years old when she was found dead, at her home in California, in mysterious conditions. The commemoration this year of her 60th birthday was once again a godsend to remember this actress who embodied on her own, the myth of absolute femininity. Some of her fans have also found themselves on Hollywood Boulevard to remember the missing idol and pay her tribute. The event was also an opportunity for the media to look back at her rich and eclectic journey, because the young Marilyn was an actress, model and singer all at the same time. Certainly at the beginning of her career, she was initially destined to modeling, but very quickly she was able to impose herself in the world of cinema to become from 1950, a real Hollywood star. We remember all her great successes of the time, namely «Men Prefer Blondes» (1953), «Seven Years of Reflection» (1955) or «Some Like It Hot» (1959) for which she received the Golden Globe for Best Actress in 1960. But despite this dazzling notoriety, Marilyn Monroe did not seem happy or satisfied with her professional career, even less with her private life strewn with failures and uncertainties. The cliché of the «beautiful artistic product» that stuck to her skin and which she

wanted at all costs to get rid of, her failed marriages to baseball star Joe Di Maggio and writer Arthur Miller have greatly affected and plunged her in tournament. Which did not fail to stir up suspicion and speculation as to the real cause of her tragic death. Was it a suicide? a barbiturate overdose? or political assassination?. The mystery still remains. But Marilyn was herself a mystery because many gray areas hovered over her childhood, her life as an artist, her personality... She never for example met her biological father. Worse still, the identity of the person who gave life to one of the great stars of American cinema has always been unknown. Many things still remain to be elucidated in the life of the actress. The information and rumors circulating about her personality were sometimes unfounded. Thus, for example, her incarnation as a sex symbol in no way meant that the actress was, contrary to a well-established representation, an uneducated idiot or a woman obsessed with herself. According to Greg Schreiner, president of «The Marilyn Remembered Fan Club», Marilyn was none of that. On the contrary, she was incredibly quick-witted and intelligent. «When she read books, he testifies, she read philosophers and very in-depth books. She was not reading a cheap novel. She was always in the process of learning». This shows how much the late blonde continues, 60 years after her death, to still fascinate as much by her talent as an artist as by her life enamelled with a few mysteries. F. M

eauville American Film Festival, in its 48th edition, took place this year from September 2nd to September 11th. This event, which is one of the most prestigious film meetings in the world, saw the participation of many directors and actors from the world of cinema. A total of 60 films were selected during this edition, the presidency of the jury being entrusted to the filmmaker but nevertheless French director Arnaud Desplechin. The screening and presentation of the films was spread over three different sites in the city: the Center International de Deauville, the Cinéma du Casino Barrière and the Cinéma le Morny. The public had come, as usual, in large numbers to attend the event, thus showing their loyalty to this American film festival organized in France. The curiosity would undoubtedly be attracted by the 13 films selected for the competition during this umpteenth edition. According to specialists, most of the films selected deal in particular with the horrors of childhood and adolescence, such as this feature film «Aftersun» by Charlotte Wells. This film carried by two actors Paul Mescal and the young and touching Frankie Corio won moreover the grand prize of the festival. This film production tells a

beautiful but deeply intimate story that dates back to the late 1990s, during a vacation shared by 11-year-old Sophie and her 30-year-old father, Calum, in a club on the Turkish coast. But beyond the story, the jury was, it seems, touched in particular by «the power and the sureness of the staging, by its poetry and by its sensory dimension. Each plan, each image, every second struck our hearts in an infinitely personal and profoundly universal way,» said Léa Drucker, one of the competition’s jury members. Finally, it should be noted that Charlotte Wells achieved a double at this festival by also winning the other prize awarded by the Critics Committee. And in reaction to these two distinctions, the American director said after the awards ceremonies: «Deauville has a long history of highlighting and supporting the best of American independent cinema, so I am very proud to be able to say that I’m part of». A wind of youth is blowing through courts
With the arrival of the youngest world number 1 in the history of men’s tennis, the supposed retirement of Serena Williams and the emergence of new names in both ladies and gents; the US Open 20022 sees a new page in the history of the little yellow ball.

Among the gentlemen: Alcaraz on the top of the World of Tennis at only 19 years old
T
he sports world will long remember the New York night of September 11-12 which saw Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz win his first Grand Slam. By defeating Norwegian Casper Ruud in four sets 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7/1), 6-3 in the final of the US Open 2022, the 19-year-old Spaniard becomes the youngest world number 1 since the creation of the ATP ranking. Even if the meeting was not the hoped-for fireworks for the closing of this tournament, it nevertheless offered a great show for the approximately 24,000 spectators who came to watch this final. The two men tied for three sets before Carlos Alcaraz made the difference, notably by winning a decisive tie-break in the third set to finally bend his Norwegian opponent in four sets. «It’s something I dreamed of as a child, I worked very, very hard to achieve it, it’s hard to find the words, I feel a lot of emotions,» said Carlos Alcaraz who let his joy burst before lifting his cup. Casper Ruud did not hide his disappointment after this defeat and promises to come back stronger: «Carlos and I knew we were playing for this number 1 spot, it’s a special feeling. Of course I am disappointed. I will continue to fight to try to get this first place. »
At the end of this Grand Slam, the ATP ranking was completely turned upside down, leading to a new world hierarchy. Thus the young Spanish prodigy seizes the highest step dethroning the Russian Daniil Medvedev who is relegated to 4th position. The unfortunate finalist of this tournament Casper Ruud, aged 23, seizes the 2nd step of the podium while the Spaniard Raphael Nadal and despite his elimination in the round of 16 by the American Frances Tiafoe, retains his 3rd square. It should be noted that the absence of the «Big Three», Roger Federer, Raphael Nadal and Novac Djokovic from the last four of the New York tournament does not diminish the merit of the young Alcaraz who has experienced a meteoric rise. An exponential progression which allowed him to dethrone the Australian Lleyton Hewitt, who rose to the rank of number 1 in 2001 at only 20 years old. A trophy that propels the native to the roof of the tennis world at exactly 19 years, 4 months and 6 days. One thing is certain, with names like Jannik Sinner, Ruud Casper, Carlos Alcaraz or even Frances Tiafoe, the world of tennis has nothing to worry about... the next generation is definitely there.

he was the queen of Roland-Garros, she has just seized the throne of women’s tennis on a planetary scale. By winning in New York at the US Open 2022, the Polish Iga Swiatek has just confirmed her supremacy on the courts, she who has won 37 victories and six titles in a row in the first half of this year alone.
the title, the young woman won a check for $2.6 million. However, the tournament organizers had another reward for Iga, hiding a slice of Tiramisu, one of her favorite pastries, inside the trophy.
During her final against the Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the Pole showed a lot of control, especially of her nerves during the big meetings.
For her part, the Tunisian lost her second Grand Slam final in two months, after the one lost on grass at Wimbledon against Elena Rybakina.
The 21-year-old gave her Tunisian opponent no chance in the first set by winning 6-2.
But Ons Jabeur will always be able to console herself with this title of world number 2 at the end of the American tournament.
However, she will have to work in the second in front of the return of Jabeur who pushed the Polish player to a tie-break. Unfortunately, the North African made a few unforced errors that allowed Swiatek to win 7-6 in this second round and thus win her second Grand Slam title this year, the third of her career. The world number one who collapsed on the ground under the effect of the emotion after a match which lasted 1:51 expressed her joy to win the New York tournament for the first time I am super proud of myself because it was not an easy game. Even though I dominated the start of the game, I knew it would be tight and I knew Ons would take advantage of every mistake I made.» In addition to 54

« I truly appreciate it. Especially since I had nothing to eat, «said the young Polish girl.
Aged 28, the Tunisian tenniswoman was however the second best player of the season, at least the most regular. Already in full swing last year, she passed another milestone this season by first winning the biggest title of her career at the Master1000 in Madrid before playing in the final of that of Rome. She already has more than 40 victories on the circuit to her credit, statistics that allow her to hope to one day be at the top of the world hierarchy of women’s tennis.
Serena williams: the queen of women’s tennis hangs up
T
he announcement of her retirement had been one of the most publicized events this summer, after a career spanning more than 25 years Serena Williams decided to hang up her racquet. The US Open seemed the perfect place for her to say goodbye, even if the 41-year-old player next September only announced it lip service, as if she herself refused to see the tenniswoman at the incredible track record, put an end to her career. It is therefore a determined Serena Williams who arrives in New York with the desire to go as far as possible in this tournament. And at major events, the big means, the American known for her extravagant outfits. For this US Open, Serena wanted to hit hard in the eyes of her of her fans who came to see her probably for the last time on a court. Indeed the public was dazzled to discover this set inspired by the outfits worn by figure skaters. Serena Williams donned more than 400 hand-set diamonds on her bodice, hair band and sneakers. In New York, the icon of women’s tennis gave everything to delay her farewell to the world of small ball by chaining two victories first against Montenegrin Danka Kovinic (6-3, 6-3) then against number 2 world, the Estonian Anett Kontaveit (7-6, 2-6, 6-2).
But Serena does not intend to stop there, she whose fortune is estimated at 260 million dollars and who founded her company «Serena Ventures» which covers several sectors such as consumer services, technology or e-commerce.
But the dreaded moment unfortunately arrived in the 3rd round. Despite a heroic match, Serena had to abdicate this evening of September 3rd against Australian Ajla Tomljanovic (7-5, 6-7; 6-1). In front of an audience just as moved as her, the queen of women’s tennis spoke with great difficulty in containing her tears «These are tears of joy, I imagine. I want to thank everyone who has been by my side all these years, starting with my parents,» she said before greeting her sister Venus «without whom she would never have become Serena,» she said. A defeat that probably marks the end of the career of one that everyone considers the best tennis player of all time.
The American, however, makes it a point of honor to give a chance to new profiles in entrepreneurship. According to the Serena Ventures website, 53% of the company’s portfolio includes companies founded by women and 47% by black people, «because that’s who we are,» says the future retiree. As a shrewd businesswoman, Serena is also interested in the world of television. In 2021, she signed a contract with Amazon Studios to produce several series of documentaries which will be broadcast on the Prime Video on-demand service.

One thing is certain, on or off the courts Serena Williams will undoubtedly continue to be talked about. F. M

In addition to her earnings on the courts, she has been able to multiply her earnings by signing a dozen partnerships with sponsors of all kinds. ompetition between major producers of electronic components has been raging for several years. The major manufacturers in this industry are constantly in a frantic race to increase their production capacities and develop their research into this technology. Large investments amounting to tens of billions of dollars are announced each year to deal with the shortage of chips and other semiconductors which particularly penalize the automotive industry. We all remember the staggering sum of 100 billion that TSMC announced last year to increase its investments. This Taiwanese giant which will invest this huge budget in three years does not, seem to want to let go, after the American Intel decided to compete directly by planning an investment of 20 billion dollars in the United States. TSMC wants to remain the largest «founder» in the world, especially since the Group currently covers more than half, or 55%, of the world’s needs in electronic components, in particular those intended for the automobile. It should be remembered that the semiconductor market is as buoyant as it is lucrative. Last year, it generated a turnover of around 480 billion with an increase of 7.7% compared to 2020. The stakes are high, especially since the demand is increasingly strong for this kind of technology. It seems that the Covid-19 pandemic that hit the world recently has accelerated digitalization in all sectors. Hence the growth and explosion of the chip market, especially after the transition to 5G and its gradual generalization in the years to come. Faced with these challenges, TSMC does not skimp on the means. It regularly increases its investments to increase its production capacities but also to develop its technology. This year, moreover, it has rolled out its roadmap for 3 nanometers, planning to switch to 2 nm by 2025. This shows how the Taiwanese giant is more capable than ever of perfecting its etching to achieve better technology that can provide benefits such as performance and power to its products. G. S

The Amsterdam chestnut tree
I
Reviving the Tree of Hope
n 1993, the town hall of Amsterdam allocated a substantial sum to save a 150-year-old tree. There was even talk at the time of an amount that would be around 6.5 million francs spent to revive this tree 30 meters high, of the chestnut species, and which was in the courtyard of the one of the houses of the Dutch city. This initiative, as comical as it was irrational, was however, far from fortuitous since this chestnut tree was linked to a story of great symbolism.
Indeed, the tree was the one that was cited by the famous Jewish teenager of German origin Anne Frank in her memoir of her fugitive life during the 2nd World War. The immortalized chestnut tree has since embodied hope and the girl has become, after her martyrdom, one of the symbols of the Holocaust. It should be noted that little Anne had left Germany before this dramatic period, precisely in 1933, to take refuge in Holland. She took up residence, she and her family, in a house in Amsterdam which served as a hiding place for them to flee Nazi persecution. Unfortunately, she was denounced and deported on September 3, 1944, to Auschwitz-Birkenau, before being transferred to the sinister Bergen-Belsen camp where she succumbed to typhus in February or March 1945. The little girl with the angelic smile and frail-bodied was only 15 years old. But during her refuge in the Dutch 60

city, the little teenager kept a notebook to write her diary where she noted, every day, everything she saw, felt and hoped for. «Every morning,» she wrote, «I go to the attic where the outside air refreshes my stale lungs.» She looked at the blue sky, the seagulls and especially this chestnut tree which she described as a «bare tree whose branches glisten with droplets». This chestnut tree was obviously there to entertain the budding writer who was bored at the bottom of her hideout. But she found that the
tree was dying day by day because of fuel oil that «would have been accidentally spilled in the ground while filling up a neighbor’s tank...» Thus, little Anne, while feeling sorry for the state of the chestnut tree, was going to highlight, in her diary, the nature that she considered as a source of comfort and happiness. «For all those who are afraid,» she remarked, «who are lonely or unhappy, the best remedy is surely to go out, to go somewhere where you will be

Words of Anne Frank Anne Frank at Memorial Park, Boise, Idaho, USA completely alone, alone with the sky, nature and God. Because only then, and only then, do we feel that everything is as it should be and that God wants to see people happy in simple but beautiful nature. »
Today the tree is gone. It has not withstood the vicissitudes of time, despite the laudable attempts to save it, starting with that of the municipality of Amsterdam, passing through numerous actions of the Anne Frank Foundation which opposed its felling despite all the risks it could entail for the neighborhood. It is because the chestnut tree had been dying for a long time, eaten away by diseases and all kinds of parasites. It ended up giving in in 2010 without, however, causing any casualties, bowing out with dignity since it’s fall was as slow as it was cautious.
62
November 2022
The disappearance of the chestnut tree aroused great emotion at the time in Holland and around the world. Hundreds of articles and messages have been devoted to this event in the media and on social networks. For many, the fall of the Amsterdam tree was a memorial tragedy because it was the symbol of life, courage, hope, starting over. And as if to safeguard her memory and thereby perpetuate the memory of Anne Frank, we then decided to find the rare cuttings of the symbol chestnut tree to replant them elsewhere. However, we managed to find very few. They have been used to bring the chestnut tree back to life, particularly in three countries: Israel, the United States and France. Even the UN also got involved by planting a tree on June
12, 2019, the cutting of which was offered by the Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect. The choice of this date to pay tribute to this martyred girl is hardly fortuitous because if she had survived the Holocaust, the young teenager would have been exactly 90 years old. Finally, this global tribute to little Anne, through the action of the UN, is deserved because her story and her sacrifice have inspired generations and eminent politicians. The great Nelson Mandela, who had read and reread Anne Frank’s book during his detention, said on his release from prison: «I drew strength, hope and forgiveness from it.» F. M

The Sadhus:
The desire to paint Sadhous came to me from my childhood memories, When I was little, I grew up in a village where two or three days per week, Sadhous came to ask for alms...Some times they sang religious songs. I saw my grandmother give them some money or food. To me , they are emblematic Bangladeshi characters where I grew up. During my trip to India last year I was asked about their philosophy, their reflection in life. Yellow colors and orange from their suits have me also wonder, in per suit of personal questions, I decided to make some research in order to learn more.
70
November 2022
The yellow color represents knowledge and learning so wisdom and intellect through ages. It symbolizes the happiness, peace, meditation, competence and mental development. Yellow is full of creative energies, intellectual and spiritual. There are also birds who are represented, they are symbols of the Sadhus’s freedom.
Lalon’s song reflect well the philosophy of the Sadhous since in this one, he talks about humanism which would stand above all the rest. Lalon believed that determined people lived among others and the achievement of oneself would find them. Many of his songs refer to the human mind, he thought that the witty man has no religion, caste, sex or belief. Lalon considers the human soul like a mysterious entity, unknown and untouchable. In the Achin Pakhi song “ inside the cage”, he compares the inner being mind to a bird that can easily come and go in the cage-like body but still in captivity.
