Quality, Nutrition and Performance are the cornerstones on which GAIN Horse Feeds has been built, with over 30 years’ experience in producing a wide range of equine feeds to cater for all equine categories. We incorporate the latest scientific research into our production techniques and product formulations to ensure that with each bag of GAIN Horse Feeds, you, our customers, are getting the best possible feed for your horse. We are dedicated to developing new products and improving existing products within the range. We work closely with independent nutritionists and advisors to bring the latest in research and technology to our products. We pride ourselves in manufacturing consistent, palatable, innovative feeds of the highest nutritional content. As the welfare of the horse is paramount to success, we ensure a good blend of super-fibres and oils to keep the horse’s digestive system healthy.

We control our oats quality “from seed to feed”. Our cereal specialists monitor the crops from when they are sown right through to harvest. Our quality control team closely evaluate each ingredient and only those that meet our strict criteria are selected for processing. We include some of the most advanced trace mineral and vitamin premixes in both our cubes and coarse mixes. Our cubes are milled and pelleted to produce a digestible dust-free product that is renowned across all equestrian disciplines. Our coarse mixes are made from the finest toasted and steam-flaked cereals in addition to high quality protein sources in the form of toasted soya beans, flaked peas and sunflower meal.

A Unique Partnership -

& Alltech

is a global animal health and nutrition company that provides natural, nutritious solutions to the food and feed industries. Founded in 1980 by Irishman Dr. Pearse Lyons, Alltech is headquartered in Kentucky, USA and it’s European Bioscience Centre is located in Dunboyne, Co. Meath which is also home to Alltech’s European Headquarters. This research facility in Ireland places a strong emphasis on fundamental research encompassing biotechnology, microbiology and chemistry-based disciplines. GAIN Horse Feeds incorporate Alltech’s nutritionally advanced technologies in their performance horse feeds. The Alltech Equine Solutions include Yea-Sacc® live yeast, Bioplex® copper, zinc and manganeses and Sel-Plex® organic selenium. These products work in harmony with the horse to optimise digestive health and nutrient uptake as well as provide key minerals in a more bio-available form that are better absorbed and utilised by the animal.

Designed to closely match the natural trace elements in forages and grains, Bioplex® minerals nutritionally ‘fit’ animal metabolism to become more absorbable during digestion and more readily available to meet physiological demands in organs and tissues. Benefits of Bioplex® Mineral Nutrition • • • • •

Optimal hoof and hair condition. Balanced growth of bone and cartilage. Nutritional support during reproduction. Foal trace mineral status at birth. Health maintenance.

Sel-Plex® offers Selenium in its natural form to horses. Horses need Selenium to maintain disease defence and reproductive function, support exercise tolerance and for overall health.Selenium is added to equine feeds and supplements because their components typically provide inadequate levels. Sel-Plex® maintains high Selenium status to meet performance horse demands while preserving a healthy immune response. Traditionally horses were fed inorganic Selenium and are unable to use this form efficiently because: • Inorganic Selenium cannot be effectively stored, leaving the animal without adequate tissue reserves. • Mares cannot thus effectively pass along Selenium to developing foals for building better Selenium status and disease defenses.

Yea-Sacc® is a live yeast culture based on Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Benefits of Yea-Sacc® • • •

Improved fibre digestion. Reduced digestive dysfunction by stabilising caecal/ colon pH. Better absorption of nutrients including Phosphorus & Calcium.

Stud Range Key Requirements of Breeding Stock The GAIN Stud Range provides a specific feed for all stages of reproduction, lactation and growth. This range is designed to cater for foals, weanlings, yearlings, mares and stallions and is scientifically formulated to meet their critical nutrient requirements at various stages. Precise feeding of broodmares during gestation and lactation and then of youngstock during growth and development is vital in order to maintain their health and well-being.

The GAIN Stud Range has been formulated based on the most up-to-date scientific research to provide a feed range that is highly digestible and contains top quality ingredients. This ensures the optimum provision of energy, protein, vitamins and minerals to address the nutrient needs of the horse at the different stages of development. GAIN has worked with some of the world’s top breeders to produce a stud range that meets all their requirements from foal to

• •

• •

finish.

• •

High quality protein is necessary to ensure optimal skeletal growth and development in late gestation as well as ensuring youngstock have the building blocks for good bone and muscle development during their early life. Bio-available trace minerals maximise availability to the horse and are pivotal in ensuring normal bone growth and development. Digestible energy sources ensure that the horse’s requirements are easily met at stages of the life-cycle when there is a big demand on the body’s energy reserves such as in early lactation for the mare, during the breeding season for stallions and when foals are being weaned. High levels of Vitamin E are required to support maximum fertility and performance in addition to supporting immune function. A choice of more concentrated feeds is essential when low intakes are required such as for an overweight mare, active breeding stallions, overtopped youngstock or those showing signs of Developmental Orthopedic Disorder (DOD). Good levels of Biotin, Methionine and Zinc are necessary to nutritionally maintain healthy hoof growth. High fibre and oil levels are necessary to maintain a healthy digestive system and keep the horse’s coat in good condition.

Specialised Range Features of GAIN Specialised Feed Range GAIN Horse Feeds has introduced a Specialised Range of products to cater for horses with specific nutritional requirements and to give horse owners an alternative to conventional feeding systems. This range of products encompasses some of the most up to date equine nutrition and sports physiology research to ensure your horse gets the best results from feed even in challenging situations. GAIN’s Specialised Range of feeds ensures that maximum performance can be achieved without compromising your horse’s health and wellbeing. Only the highest quality ingredients are used to make these products with a particular focus on benefiting the immune and digestive systems while ensuring sound growth and optimal muscle development.

These products cater for horses with specific requirements that are not catered for in other product ranges. Specialised ingredients are used to enhance the nutrient specification of each product. •

Opti-Care combines a high oil, high fibre blend to reduce the starch content of the product thus reducing the glycemic response of the feed.

Fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) are included in Elite 10 to help stabilise hindgut fermentation.

Linseed in Elite 10 is a good source of Omega 3 oils.

Freedom uses a combination of super fibres and alfalfa chop to increase the digestible fibre level of the feed.

Elevated Vitamin E levels are used in all products to boost the antioxidant status.

Recommended Feeding Practices • Feed by weight and not by volume. • Split daily feed into smaller meals and feed at the same time each day. • Adjust quantities fed according to bodyweight, workload and temperment. • Make any changes to ration over 5 - 7 days to reduce the risk of digestive upset. • Provide clean, fresh water at all times. • Provide a salt lick free choice. • Do not exercise for at least one hour after feeding. • Feed good quality forage free from dust and mould. • Feed at least 1% bodyweight of forage (in dry matter) per day, i.e. 5kg hay (dry matter) for a 500kg horse or provide access to pasture. • Do not add further vitamin and mineral supplements unless under professional guidance. • Feed extra electrolytes as required. • Keep all feeding equipment and utensils clean. • Follow a good worming programme. • Check horses’ teeth regularly. • Consult a GAIN technical team member if you have any feed related queries or log on to

www.gainhorsefeeds.com for nutrition related articles.

Note: As each horse’s requirements are different, feeding instructions are only intended as a guide. The person entrusted with the feeding of the horse should exercise their own judgement at all times.
