How we marry

ust like the states have d i ff e r e n t r i t e s o f passage, festivals, music, dances, religion, so does their marriage rite differ. Which is our main focus. Marriage is a globally recognized system of union meant for the opposite sex, but with the recent trend, same sex marriages are on the rise. It is consummated following series of monumental procedure as practiced and understood by the culture of the parties involved. Culture on the other hand is the way of life of certain people, it includes, family ethics and codes of conduct. Although culture is dynamic and open to change as the people progress and come in contact with different groups. As noted in the beginning, there are many ethnic groups and tribes in Cross river state and there all have different peculiar marriage rites.

First of all, a man will have to approach a lady he likes and propose marriage to her, if she agrees to his proposal the intended groom will now be accompanied by his friends and family to pay a visit to the supposed bride's family to declare their intentions alongside some gifts for the family, this gifts may include drinks, either alcohol or non - alcohol beverages, cola nuts etc. During this initial visit a date will then be set for a second visit, when a list of the items to be purchased for the proper rites will be handed over to the intended groom and his family. Due to the cultural diversity in the state, and differences in marriage customs, we will be narrowing it down to how the people of Obudu c o m m u n i t y m a r r y. Although it's a general and common knowledge that traditional marriage rites are usually conducted in the home of the bride, the people of Obudu take exception to that as the rites Traditional Procedures are carried out in the of Marriage rites in Cross groom's compound, which river state signifies hospitality. They

believe there is no point celebrating in her compound while you're welcoming her into yours. The proper traditional marriage rites in Obudu then proceeds in this manner. If the bride and groom are of the same cultural background and community, that is if there are both from neighboring villages all traditional requirements are fulfilled in the bride's family compound. The bride price is paid, which is called acceptance fee in the Obudu community...The fee is being paid to indicate the intended groom's family have accepted to marry the bride...After which a warm reception takes places, with food and drinks offered by the groom and family. After this is done, the bride is then accompanied to her husband's compound, this is usually done at midnight...from about 12am...To them it's an abomination to take a bride home during the day. The traditional marriage celebration proper takes place in the groom's

compound at noon. Now the big question maybe when “A” culture meets “B” culture who gives up one culture for the other? That is if an Obudu man is marrying a Calabar lady or from any other tribe.....A meeting is usually summoned to trash out the differences. The people of Obudu will argue that a marriage ceremony is a welcome party for the bride and an announcement to the groom's kindred that he has brought home a bride, while the Efik or [other tribes] are of the opinion that a marriage celebration is not just a celebration but a performance of certain rites to properly hand over the prospective bride to the indented groom, and until this rites are performed, she is not their wife yet. The people of Obudu will then agree to this and back off. A date is then fixed for the traditional marriage. And the night before the marriage ceremony is filled with exciting activities that gives birth to a successful traditional marriage proper.

recently identified that travelling light has become one of the greatest challenges majority of people face, I am not exempted from this category. I am one of those "travel light" snobs. I always believe it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. For me it's always been impossible to pack light, am obviously a terrible packer. I always love having options to choose from. Most people still struggle with the issue of travelling light, even celebrities are not left out. Jim Iyke onceposted on his Instagram page how he was a lost cause when it came to travelling light. In his own words....." Houston bound. Clearly someone has to explain the concept of travelling light to me. Smh. I'm a lost cause Lol". We all know Jim Iyke is a wide traveller. Obviously, you can still travel light and have everything you need. If you want to take more, it's a personal choice, solely dependent on what you need. My natural instinct is always to travel light, instead I end up packing heavier than I originally planned to. In my attempt to wean myself of this habit, I conducted a research on the importance of travelling light, the effort paid off as I found out a few tricks to packing light, I'll be sharing some in a bit. It goes without saying that the importance of packing light cannot be over emphasised. Light luggage do not attract too much attention, less baggage fees and reduced stress. Simple and hassle free movement and ultimately, one can keep track of one's possession. So, here are few tips for packing light........ § Always plan ahead: decide what you'll take a few days ahead, so you don't pack at the last minute. § Get a light weight suitcase. § Choose your travel wardrobe wisely with versatile pieces and footwear based on weather and envisaged activities. § Layout all of your planed clothes and accessories before you, pick only half of what you are sure you need. § When in doubt leave it out. § Stick to the essentials. If you find out you return home from CROSS RECIPEtrips with a bag full of unused clean clothes, then it's time to HOW TO PREPARE THE start packing less. § Stick with the basic toiletries and only in travel sizes and FAMOUS EKPANG - NKUKWO. quantities. § Fold wisely. The way you fold your clothes determine whether or not they would occupy space in the suit case. Ekpang- Nkukwo is a native mouth-watering, I hope this has helped you. Movie Review

T

his was a much anticipated 2016 superhero movie written by Chris Terrn and David Goyer and directed by Zack Snyder. It is Ben Affleck's first movie as Batman, while the handsome Henry Cavill played the role of Superman once again. In this movie, Batman saw Superman as a potential threat to humanity due to an earlier confrontation Superman had with General Zod from Man of Steel (2013 superman movie). Which resulted in a large scale destruction of lives and property.

his is an American superhero movie directed by Tim Miller about a man named Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) a former Special Forces operative who now worked as a mercenary. He fell in love with an escort (copycat) and proposes to her after a year only to be diagnosed with cancer. Wade was approached by a secret recruiter

offering him an experimental cure for his cancer, he initially turned down the offer, but later agreed to the procedure and without informing copycat packs his bag and leaves the house. He got cured of his cancer but the cure left him severely disfigured with burn like scars all over his body. His new look scared him from returning to copycat so he decided to hunt

grossing superhero movie of all times, beating movies like; Marvel's Ironman, the Incredible Hulk, Thor and Captain America. It definitely does beat Ironman, Thor and even Captain America if you ask me. I personally think the movie was overrated, it was more of tragedy than comic. Ben Affleck wasn't the right actor for the role, all the dreams seemed pointless but seeing batman kick Superman's ass was just so cool, Batman fought smart. I just hope DC does better with the Justice League.

down the man b e h i n d t h e experiment and get him to cure the scars. He becamea masked vigilante, taking on the name “Deadpool”. Deadpool tracked and after a series of destructive fights, andhe found out there was no cure, Wade killed him and reconciled with copycat. This is a very enjoyable movie, although it might not have made as

much money atthe box office as B a t m a n v s Superman did, it is definitely a more fun movie to watch. It is full of sarcasm and quite comic too, the cast were great a n d Ry a n j u s t reminded me of why I have always loved his character in comedies. I also think it's a movie for selected audience, I don't think everyone can relate with it.

Common Lies Men Tell Lying has become a common phenomenon in recent times, and no one can deny the fact that they lie sometimes, either to save themselves from awkward or embarrassing situations, make someone feel better or worse about themselves, or just to obtain favor. Frankly, lying has become one of the defining characteristics of human nature. Although it might be difficult for some people to relate to this, I believe that lying is a two sided coin and can be both good and bad, depending on the situation one finds oneself at any point in time. Now let's be clear, even though lying may have saved you from a really bad situation, and smoothened out a potential dispute, a lie is a lie. Lying can quickly make things significantly Ø I have developed a soft Ø spot for you Ø Ø With you, it's not just about sex Ø Ø I promise, I won't touch you if you come over Ø Ø She means nothing to me Ø Ø I love you Ø Tell me, it won't change Ø anything Ø Ø I promise I won't hurt you Ø Ø Nothing happened Ø Ø I only have eyes for you Ø I miss you too Ø I thought about you all day Ø Ø I want to take things slow Ø

messy and bad for anyone at all. It's best to heed the bible's position “you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free”. It is rather sad but true that men of our generation have taken lying to another level, they lie spontaneously and are ever on the defensive. They lie to make their spouses feel good about themselves, find a way out of a relationship which is no longer beneficial to them or as a shield from a very bad scene or just to keep their relationships going. For them, these are the so-called harmless white lies they employ to rectify a problem or do damage control or to just have their way. I am quite sure that ladies often wonder why men are such unrepentant liars, the answer I have no reason to lie to you I've never been like this with another girl You're the first girl I am saying this to You're the best sex I've ever had I don't know why she keeps calling me I'm sorry I've not had sex in months I was driving when you called I'm going out to watch champions league finals with my boys I'm a changed person My boss wants me to work this

isn't far fetched here it is; the number one reason why men repeatedly lie to women is to help them maintain their delusional fantasies of the 'ideal man'This makes it hard for women to stay angry at them for too long and to be frank, a whole lot of women would rather believe the lies than deal with the truth. After all said, I have made a list of what I consider the most common and frequently lies men tell.

weekend Ø I'm not trying to get in your pants, I just want your company Ø I've been busy, that's why you've not heard from me Ø I'm trying to break up with her so you and I can be together Ø I prefer you on your natural hair Ø You look better without make up Ø I don't have feelings for her, she's just my best friend Ø Sex wasn't the only thing on my mind when I met you Ø Having sex on our first date won't make me think any less of you

It goes on and on… Ladies be conscious of these lie and do not allow yourself to be manipulated and blown away by them.

Beauty and Style Spring/Summer Fabulousity Don't let the slay in you wither just because of the rise in temperature. Yes! Sometimes the hot weather leaves one feeling like a sweaty disaster, which is just not cool. Then again, this shouldn't be an excuse to let down your style standard, there is a need to keep it fresh and stylish with these summer must haves.

*

Sunglasses are your best friends this summer – Sun shades are not just fashionable, they are a necessity to protect your eyes from the sun's harmful rays. Look chic and stylish with a pair of shades and be sure to have fun experimenting with colours and shapes. * Rock loose fitting pants – loose fitting pants are a must have this season, you could pair with a tank top/vest. * Choose light weight clothing – the best fabrics to rock in the summer heat are cotton or linen materials, 100% wool is a great option too. Heavy fabrics tend to cling to your skin and trap sweat but lighter clothes are more suited for the hot weather. * Good bye to Black and other dark colours, say hello to White – Basic physics discloses that dark colours absorb more light therefore making one feel hotter. * Hats are a classic and stylish option – you could take on the hats to protect your head and face from the heat of the sun. * Ladies don't be afraid to flaunt your midriff with crop tops – crop tops are trending this season and you could pair them with a maxi skirt or high waisted pants. * Invest in few good dresses – get a maxi dress, there are very comfortable and works for practically every body type and it leaves you looking amazing. Believe it or not a loose flowing maxi dress will keep you cooler than a pair of shorts and skin tights. * There's something so delicate, fabulous, romantic and utterly beautiful about sheer garments. – Don't be afraid to try on sheer blouses and maxi skirts this summer. * Show a little skin – do try overalls, overalls are no longer just for kids. There are a great way to update your shorts collection, style them with anything from a button down to a crop top. * Get a scarf – you can use a scarf to keep your hair off your neck, if you are not wearing a short hair. Though I will recommend short hairstyles and braids for this season. * Wear as little jewellery as possible, earrings are fine because there don't actually touch really more of your skin, but necklaces, bracelets, and rings can often be more troubles than there are worth. * Keep your makeup from melting – I will rather suggest, you wear less makeup or no makeup at all this season. Lots of it could contribute to terrific sunburns. * Water is life – drink lots and lots of water this period. Research has proven that the sun dehydrates the body through excessive perspiration, which could result to weakness of the body, tiredness and gloominess. Stay hydrated with lots of fluid.

Mr. Ugbe is a gentleman and an entrepreneur who strongly believes in the power of passion and perseverance.

C

an you tell us a bit about Patrick Ugbe? I was born about fifty years ago, grew up and had my education between Obudu and Calabar, I did my National Youth Service in Lagos and started my broadcasting career with NTA2 Channel 5 Lagos. Sometime in the early 90's, I returned to Cross River State to assist in the creation of a state owned Television station. Once again I left Cross River State in 1997 to Minage Television which was one of the first private broadcasting outfits to operate in Nigeria. I worked with Minage from 1997 to 1999 when some of my colleagues and I teamed up to set up our own private production outfit – the DBS Media. I again returned home in 2007 when I received my first appointment to serve as the Chief Press Secretary / Special Assistant on Media to Senator Liyel Imoke, who was the governor at that time. Having served in that capacity for some years, I received another appointment, this time as the Commissioner for Information and during the second tenure of Senator Liyel Imoke, I was appointed Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development. I ventured deeper into politics by offering to serve my people but that didn't materialize and I went back at the end of that tenure to into private business and that effort is what has now become Hit FM. You have served in the public service as a press secretary to the Governor during the Liyel Imoke administration, and a Commissioner for Information and Commissioner for Sports and Youth development respectively, would you say your experiences then, had a major role to

play in your decision to establish of a radio station? Well, I'll say that my experience as a broadcaster encouraged me to set up this enterprise. I have always dreamt of owning a broadcast outfit, which was why my colleagues from Minage and I setup a b r o a d c a s t production outfit as I earlier pointed out. That outfit was established with the sole aim of providing content to existing broadcast stations, deep inside of me, I still had that dream to own a broadcast outfit and that is what has happened here. As a successful media entrepreneur, how would you define success and what would you say are the three top skills an aspiring entrepreneur needs in order to be successful in business? Success is general, when you succeed as an entrepreneur it means that your business has been accepted by people and it is beneficial to all the stake holders. The stake holders being your shareholders, your staff, the organization itself and the people that the business is serving. If you can achieve this, then your business has succeeded. One of the most important skills an entrepreneur needs is passion. If you want to do something you are passionate about, you are likely to succeed at it, but if you're not passionate about it, you're just walking through, you will fall by the way side. A man who is passionate will be steadfast. It doesn't mean that when you start, you will immediately succeed, a passionate person is the one who despite initial failure still believes, picks themselves up and forges on until they achieve success. Now apart from passion, a person also needs ideas. What has been some of your failures/setbacks, how did you pull through and what lessons did you learn from them? What I do is, I don't look back at my failures, I rather look forward at the positive things and look at the future, because I believe that, the future is bright, whatever setbacks (I

don't call them failures, I call them setbacks). Setbacks are there to make you stronger and keep you focused on your goal in life. Ermm a few time we've tried something's, in my formal place "DBS Media" where we didn't really achieve the result we wanted to achieve, those were setbacks, but it didn't deter us, we forged on Until we achieved success, so basically for me, I'll say that. Why Calabar? (What informed the location of HIT FM here in Calabar?) I come from Cross River State, there isn't any private radio station in Cross River State. What is it in Cross River that's not allowing private enterprises in the broadcast industry? I don't think there's anything that's not allowing them fester here! For me, I'm serving my people, you may serve people in the public sector, even in the private sector, and you can still serve your people. So far, I am still serving my people. Do you envisage any other radio station in the state as a threat or competitor for HIT FM? Definitely! Every radio station is a threat, we are in business. It is not just in the radio station. Every business has competitors, and there are a threat because you're not a monopoly. You're sharing the market with them. So what you have to do is to constantly innovate and strategize to outperform your competitors, and that's what for us at Hit FM are doing. We know that there are competitors, we acknowledge them, we know that there are also trying to outperform us. But we are constantly innovating, so we can outperform them and stay as a lead in this market. How would you respond to competitors if they be any in the future? I know that other private radio stations will come, the sky is so large that you see birds fly and their wings never touch, it's a business, I am not afraid of competition, l like competition because it brings out the best in me, without competition you'll be complaisant, you'll just be offering anything. Because you're a monopoly, but competition will make you. Like I keep using the word "innovative". What is the reception of the State's residents on HIT FM's operations and programmes? It's been amazing! Hit FM has done a lot of things in Cross River State since its inception. People that

never owned radio sets have

28 Glance Magazine

Interview bought radio sets, it has created business opportunities for people who deal on electronics. People who thought they never had a voice before, now have a voice. They have an opportunity to air their views, air their opinions on issues of national interest, issues that affect them, and that way you're touching the people. Above all, it's your providing an avenue of entertainment for the people. You're providing them with entertainment, and I think we've done that successfully. What makes HIT FM different from every other radio station in the state? Well, I would have rather asked you that question, because you're the listener. You listen to all, so you're the ones that should tell us what stands us out from the others. But I think in a number of things from the brand itself. We've built a brand called HIT FM. A brand that resonates in the minds of the people, we have a brand that is strong enough to captivate and catch the attention of people and pull them away from where ever they were before to come and listen to Hit fm. Through our programming, our programming is unique! It takes care of everybody and it gives the listener an opportunity to also contribute, we are also reaching out to them through our events, events that we do that touch the people individually, so that in a nutshell stands us out from the others. What's your philosophy of life? Live and let Live. Would you describe HIT FM as your most fulfilling project so far? Yes, I would! For the way it has affected lives and someone who has always wanted to affect people positively and the way Hit FM has affected people positively, yes I'll say am fulfilled. Is HIT FM involved in any charitable venture? Any future plans for such? Yea! We've done quite a lot and there are some other projects we are planning. It depends on how you look at charitable ventures! Ermmm, Hit FM is privately owned, it's for 29 Glance Magazine

profit, but there are times that we have helped people, we've run things for people without people paying. And then some of the events we've done, like the mind rubbing section for instance which we had recently was one of such events that catered to that category as well and a number of other events. Do you see HIT FM expanding towards establishing a TV Station? We are taking one step at a time, so we can't talk about that, at this moment... but let us ensure that we finish establishing Hit FM, take it to the next level before considering branching out. The youths of our generation are only interested in the get rich quick schemes and are not prepared to work hard for success, what areas do you feel needs to be revisited, so as to give them a better sense of direction! I think what the youth needs most is the change of values, the values they have now are wrong set of values. As u said, they want to come out from school, get into politics, make it, and drive a flashy car right from day one. It doesn't happen that way, there is a developmental period for everyone. We see the likes of Dangote, Mark Zurkerberg, Bill Gates and so on! They didn't just happen, it was a deliberate plan. They invested and they ensured t h a t t h e y n u r t u re d t h e i r investment for them to become what they are today. You can't come out of school and the next day believe that you'll be like Dangote, it is impossible. It is the wrong set of values that could lead to that! That's one. So they need to have role models, role models that they'll look up to. Genuine role models, not the role models that may have made it through dubious means. The ones who have gone through the process of becoming what they are. They need to have such role models and they need to think more as entrepreneurs. You start small, you grow your business and become big that is a way for me to go for the youths. Politics or entrepreneurship! Which is more fulfilling?

hit fm

Cross River State hottest radio station.

Entrepreneurship is more fulfilling than politics. Will you say you have accomplished all that you dreamed of becoming or are you still a work in progress?. You can't accomplish, you can only accomplish when you die, and as long as I am alive. I don't think God has finished with me, I haven't accomplished what I hope to accomplish. There is still a lot for me to accomplish and I pray that God grants me that grace to accomplish. You seem to be a very busy man, how do you relax? Whenever I am free, I try and do the best I can to relax, I stay with my family. I love my family, I spend time with my family. How do you combine your life as a father, a husband and an entrepreneur? It's a case of managing your time effectively, devoting time to the family and allotting time to your work. You know when work needs you, you give your time to work, you know when your family needs you, and you give your time to your family. It's just effective time management. How long have you been married? I've been married for 14 years a n d I t h i n k I m e t h e r, erhmmmm... prior to when we actually married, some years before then as a friend before we started dating and got married. What, in your opinion are the secrets of a lasting relationship? Trust, Love and Understanding. Finally, for those who look up to you, what word of guidance would you give them to encourage them in the pursuit of their dreams! Nothing good comes easy, you persevere. If you have a dream, don't throw it away. If you believe in your dream, you must stay focused to work on that and ensure that you see to the success of your dreams. Thank you for your time!

Ready for a

ring

Traits men look out for when searching for a wife.

B

elieve it or not women aren't the only ones that nurse a list of traits they look out for in their ideal partner. Men also have a mental list what the traits they would want their wife to poses and until they see this traits, trust me they are not going on one knee. Are you ready for that ring? Here are few of those traits men look out for when choosing a wife. * Secure and confident - Men want women who are with them willingly and not out of desperation. Women crave attention and adoration the same way men do, but men need their partners to have separate identity. They appreciate it if their women have their own friends and trust them to have theirs too. * Honest communicators – This is a top traits men tend to look out for, they appreciate women who answers questions honestly, and they love women who are open and volunteer information. They want a woman who can see the truth, stand and speak for themselves. * Emotionally stable and mature – Men want woman who are emotionally stable but does not emotions all together. It's important to know how to manage your emotions responsibly. Men are practical beings compared to women who base their decisions on emotions. * Manipulation free – Men have little or zero tolerance for games. They don't have time to read their partners mind or try to interpret signals. Women have a thing for hiding their true emotions, pretending not to be interested. News flash men don't have time to chase over a woman who has given the not- intrusted signal. * True Commitment – Fidelity and loyalty is an absolute must for men. In fact, men want a woman, who doesn't have a roaming eye. They want women who can be totally committed to the relationship. Though there is a misconception that all a man wants is sex, the truth is, men also want to be loved. They won't just go running after the pretty face and hot body, they can be faithful and committed too. But then, you need to be at an alert of subtle cues and know if he is a catch or if you should throw him back with the fishes. * Nurturer’s – This is one of the many reasons most men get attached to their mothers, they love to be nurtured and appreciated as well.

Thoughts that are keeping you single

T

here is a natural desire in very human being to express love, so not wanting to remain single is only natural. Now, the irony is, in as much as we want to be loved and be loved we fear it. Most single men and woman don't enjoy dating because they are scared of getting hurt. You must have faced rejection, desperation, loneliness, painful insecurities and embarrassment in the past and the thought of living those nightmares all over again keeps you single. The one question in the hearts of many single men/women out there is “How do I stop being single”? But the truth is, if you want to get out of singlehood and find a meaningful relationship or even get married, then you have to shift your mentality from fear based to results based. Instead of focusing on what you're afraid of happening to what you will want to happen. This also means getting rid of excuses and focusing on solutions. It's time to stop letting these common negative thoughts dominate your mind. I won't find love; relax! You don't need to find love, it will find you. The key is to be open to the idea that it exist. You have to be optimistic that with the right attitude accompanied with the right action, you will attract love. It's time to get out and socialize more.

RELATIONSHIPS I'm not lovable; they are lots of people out there who feel fundamentally unlovable. In as much as this is a legitimate feeling, it's still something you need to get over. Recognize that, it's only a feeling and not an actual fact. And don't doubt other feelings about you. Open your heart to receive love from other people. (Stretch yourself out of your comfort zone). I'll be cheated on; success leaves clues and so do liars, you will only be cheated on when you refuse to listen to your guts, when you start to get suspicious. To avoid a cheater you need to first avoid a liar. Be start enough to deal with the situation when you see red flags and be strong enough to walk away from every abusive and unhealthy relationships. I've tried everything; trust me, you've not tried everything when it comes to dating, you might have don't all the things that didn't work, but you haven't done the things that do work. Getting positive and productive results in dating are spontaneous right actions. Follow your instincts, (go to that party, let your down and dance in the rain, go out for launch, talk to that stranger). I'm not successful enough; you can find a partner that will accept you exactly where you are in life, but first you have to accept yourself. If you place value more on material worth and not integrity or personality then you may suffer from feeling inferior when it comes to your level of success. The person I like, may not like me; we are often misguided by assumptions. But asides religion and race everything else is negotiable. What that person you like is looking for are great times, playful moments, and sexual attractions. As long as you meet this basic criteria then you are compatible with more people than you think. Note that, negative results are missed opportunities to meet the right people. You have already come in contact with several potential dates, they are either behind you, in the next aisle or right across the street. The only reason you haven't met them is because you operate from the mind-set that they don't exist. A great relationship might just start with a simple “Hello, follow your guts and let go of the negative excuses disguised as a belief. Choose positive thoughts that serves you and your mission to attract and sustain love and stop those negativity that ruins your chances of finding love.

HOT TOPIC -Celebrities and their fake lifestyles.

I

don't subscribe to living life beyond one's means. There is no excuse to portray a false lifestyle. Anyways, this seems to be a major trend in the entertainment industry, celebrities constantly painting a supposedly perfect life in the eyes of the media, displaying their alleged wealth on Instagram and other social media platforms. So, a couple of celebrities do a lot of showing off to keep their names on the lips of their fans, something which is meant to happen naturally, when one is actually an achiever. I mean, there should be some level of privacy, limiting what the general public knows about them. Many of these celebrities find themselves neck deep in major debt crisis because of the craze to keep up with a particular flashy lifestyle they have built for themselves. They also go as far as making the public believe they have a perfect home behind the glitz and glam of fame. It's okay to be unhappy. Being a celebrity doesn't shield anyone from life's crisis. It's okay not to have money sometimes, just as it is okay not to have it all together all the time. It's okay to live in a rented apartment if you can't afford a luxurious home. It's okay to just be normal. It isn't wise to claim what

you don't own. Believe it or not, a million dollar designer wrist watch or an expensive car or a luxurious home is not a parameter to measure wealth. A rich person doesn't need to demonstrate their net worth to the world, the world perceives it. Our celebrities just end up stretching the glory of fame a bit too far. Granted that some celebrities actually have all they claim to have acquired, they may have legitimate sources of income. Don't get me wrong, the way this people earn their money is really not the concern here, what I am actually getting at is that for a whole lot of them, they live a life of deception, portraying and image of themselves in the social media that is far from the reality. If they were able to conduct a poll to determine the number of people interested in their show of affluence, they'd be grossly disappointed. On a serious note, enough with the flamboyance and psychedelic life styles, get a grip!. Public View on celebrities and their fake lives. Do you think Celebrities lead fake lives? Sophie Eyo (Student, Turkey) – They do, it's part of the job. Perception is more important that reality in entertainment. Ifeanyi Omuekwe (Engineer, Lagos) – Of

course they do, but who cares really? Their lives our entertainment. Mark I.I (Entrepreneur, Port Harcourt) – Well, celebrities are connected to the school of life, pertaining show biz. This literally means that they are actually supposed to show the world their lives, painting their lives colourful with worldly acquisitions, making them appear richer in the eyes of their fans. But the twist is you are who you are, not what you make others believe. What you decide to show off is a personal decision. AY (Entrepreneur, Lagos) – Yes, I think celebrities live fake life's to keep their A-game on, they have to act rich whether they have it or not. They do this to remain relevant and in trend. This so called fake life's bring prospects in a way though, the fact that they are trending makes them eligible for endorsements and jobs.

media to show it off for you. And then the next upcoming celebrities follow suit and the circle continues. The fake life's they appear to be living are mostly for publicity or triggered by the pressure from the society. Nomzoobi@yahoo.com

Sharon Max (Communication Specialist, Abuja) – They do, because they have to keep up with the trend and stay relevant.

Deborah Oyediran (Blogger/writer. Lagos) – Most do, it's very rare to Nonso Obi (Fashion find one who is true and Designer, Port Harcourt) real with their lifestyle. – It's irrational to Agreed!. The society generalize that. But, isn't that what being a celebrity expect more from them, but is all about?
