The Zonta Club of Blackall Range offers two $1500 scholarships for female tertiary students each year. One is for STEM students and the other for students of the humanities. The closing date for applications for the 2019 scholarships is April 30. The scholarships are limited to women who are living, have lived or were educated in the Blackall Range area and have completed one year of study. Check the form for full details on eligibility. President of Zonta Blackall Range Julie Bevan said this year was a significant one for the awarding of such scholarships as Zonta was celebrating its centenary. “A group of New York businesswomen established the first Zonta club in Buffalo in 1919 and it is now a worldwide organisation of business executives and professionals who work together to advance the status of women through service and advocacy,” Julie said. Requests for application forms and completed forms, typed and signed, should be sent to the coordinator of the scholarship committee at scholarship@ zontablackallrange.org.au. Scholarship program coordinator Judith Ross-Smith said these were not the only scholarships women could apply for through Zonta Blackall Range. “Zonta International (ZI) gives several awards to women that are particularly prestigious and financially worthwhile. They all begin with a winner at club level, so if women are interested they should apply for information to the above email address. “Forms are also available for the JM Klausman awards for women in tertiary programs in business and law, Amelia Earhart fellowships for postgraduate students in the fields of aeronautical engineering or related sciences, and women in technology awards for students studying in any area of technological science. “Please let us know if you are interested by contacting us. More information can be obtained by accessing ZI’s website www.zonta.org,” Judith said. Last year Natasha Healy, also of Nambour, won the award for students in the humanities and Jessica Bolin, also of Nambour won the first Zonta scholarship for students in the areas of science, technology, engineering and maths
