Safety first at Glasshouse School

Good sign for local school safety

Regular drivers on Coonowrin Road at Glass House Mountains will notice that new flashing school zone signs have recently been installed at the Glass House Mountains State School.

Last week the state government also annouced that they will install another four of these across the Sunshine Coast, including two in our area at Peachester State School on Kilcoy-Beerwah Road and Maleny State High School on Bunya Street.

The 40km per hour signs are part of the latest round of the Queensland Government’s $12 million flashing school zone program.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said flashing signs played an important role in alerting motorists that they were entering a school zone, reminding drivers to slow down and keep an eye out for children.

“The community has been very passionate in advocating for new flashing signs and it’s great to be able to secure it for these schools,” Mr Bailey said.

The signs will flash on school days and during school zone times so motorists will be aware when children are likely to be around.
