Community Groups New permaculture group for Maleny
Maleny and surrounding areas have an abundance of people interested in or practising permaculture. Unfortunately this is often done in isolation. Permaculture is just as much about community and building a symbiotic web of people as it is about things like gardening, farming, natural building and eco-friendly solutions for life. With a wide range of skills and understanding needed, permaculture can often be challenging so it helps to have a supportive group of like-minded people around you. A Maleny permaculture group has been formed to provide a supportive network in Maleny and surrounding areas. Recognising that people produce different forms of produce, an integral part of permaculture is the sharing and trading of surpluses. The new group will engage in a wide range of activities such as workshops, Permablitz-style working bees, trips and open garden home visits. The inaugural meeting for the group will be held at the Maleny RSL on July 2 starting at 7pm ($2 donation to cover the cost of the venue). All are welcome. A monthly meeting will then be held at the Maleny RSL on the first Tuesday of each month. Contact Phillip on 0416 193 395 for further information.
Milestone celebrated
The Lions Club of Maleny Blackall Range recently celebrated its 36th anniversary dinner meeting on the actual birthday of the club’s chartering in 1983. Tricia Jackson, wife of charter president Roger, cut the cake with current president Chris Sang.

Stories come to life
The latest exhibition at Bankfoot House - Storytelling - showcases special objects from the remarkable heritage collection and explores how we share intimate family memories. Each Sunday in July storytelling will come to life with a free afternoon tea, guided tour of the house and stories shared by descendants of the families who lived in the house, volunteers and Friends of Bankfoot House, and Sunshine Coast locals. Free storytelling sessions will be held from 1.30-2.30pm on July 7, 14, 21 and 28. To attend please book your place by calling 5420 8600. Guided tours are available from 10am. The curated exhibition will be on display in Bankfoot House and Mary Grigor Centre until August 25. Bankfoot House Heritage Precinct is located at 1998 Old Gympie Road on the way to the Glass House Mountains Lookout.
Rock star of the wood world in Montville The Blackall Range Woodcrafters Guild is looking forward to being a part of the Robert Sorby 2019 Tour in conjunction with Carbatec, and will host one of only five Queensland presentations. Renowned wood turner Chris Pouncy (pictured right) will deliver compelling demonstrations packed with information and entertaining advice. Chris, who is touring the country, will be in Montville on Tuesday, July 2 from 10am–1pm at the Blackall Range Woodcrafters Guild’s shed at 230 Balmoral Road. Entry is free and there will be a $200 lucky door prize donated by Robert Sorby. Woodies from other clubs are welcome to attend.
