Financial seminar for women at risk The Zonta Club of Blackall Range will partner with the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre to present a financial literacy seminar on March 6 for women of 50 and over who are ‘at risk’. The program is funded by the Queensland Government through the Queensland Women’s Week community grants scheme, with the theme ‘Invest in women, invest in the future’. The initiative “celebrates the achievements of Queensland’s women and girls” and its goal is part of a program to achieve gender equality. The Maleny course is aimed at women who feel their lack of knowledge about money matters and difficulty in managing their finances may put them at risk of hardship in the future. President of the Zonta Club of Blackall Range and facilitator of the seminar, Julie Bevan, said the goal of Queensland Women’s Week accorded exactly with the mission of Zonta International, which has been pursuing the aim of achieving gender equality for 100 years. “Zonta, too, recognises the importance of financial literacy and capability and that it improves the economic security of women and benefits the entire community,” Julie said. “There is increasing need for women to manage their own finances to avoid risk from every aspect of their lives, from unnecessary credit charges through to the risk of homelessness. “It has been observed that the greatest danger of homelessness is among women aged 50 plus,
