Hi Everyone
T
his week’s social pics were taken on Saturday night at the Sunshine Girls first major fundraising dinner. It was a fabulous night with plenty of fun, great meals and excellent prizes in the lucky ball competition! Anyone that knows me – will have probably heard me complaining about my history with raffles, my total prize pool for life has amounted to a Christmas cake, a pot plant, and a hand towel. So I have to say ... I was most impressed with the Sunshine Girls idea for lucky balls (like a lucky dip but you get a brightly coloured ball with a number on the side!)
PS We will be closed for Easter – so no paper next week

Every ball purchased gets a prize to the value of the $20.00 purchase price or better and what an amazing range of prizes they had. Thanks to a really generous bunch of local business people, the prizes were amazing and I had noticed Brownie eyeing off the blower vac, a generator and some other blokey prizes! However I was most happy when Brownie’s lucky number was called and he collected a little gift bag with Flair Jewellery logo on the side – he thought he might try and keep the lovely gold earrings as an anniversary gift – but that wasn’t gonna happen. With my history of raffle prizes I was as excited as a little kid on Christmas morning - thanks Sunshine Girls it was a job well done! Regards,

Beerwah Marketplace decision imminent At the Sunshine Coast Council Ordinary Meeting tomorrow, a decision will be finally made as to the future of the Beerwah Marketplace development. The latest application from Village Fair Investments to Council is seeking to make some changes to the original proposal. These changes are: • a reduction in overall gross floor area from 14,756m² to 11,241m² • modification to the look of the construction along Peachester Road and Simpson Street; and • the removal of rooftop car parking and overall reduction in car parking of 195 spaces.
The reduction in the floor space is on the current Wimberleys / Supa IGA side of the development. With the scrapping of the rooftop car parking, extra ground level parking was needed, and so the retail space was sacrificed for this purpose. Also, Council is going to be requiring Village Fair Investments to build a 2.5m wide walkway and cycle path from Peachester Road, up through the site (along the alignment of the existing Lodge Lane) joining onto Pine Camp Road. Contrary to rumours, it doesn’t mean that the existing shops will be closing immediately approval is given. A spokesperson for Property Manager with Village Fair Investments was clear that there is some way to go before the Simpson Street area will be redeveloped. “We are looking forward to providing a newly developed Supa IGA, a Country Target and around 20 new specialty stores,” she said.

It will be a bittersweet moment when Tony and Irene at the Hideaway check out their last guests and welcome the new owners Jennifer and Simon Farrell from Canberra. The couple, who have been operating the successful bed and breakfast and wedding function centre, The Hideaway on Steve Irwin Way Beerwah, for the past 11 years, have been forced to make the tough decision to sell their business as Irene continues her battle with terminal cancer. From the moment Tony and Irene brought the property they had visions of just how they could transform it into a luxury bed and breakfast and wedding function centre. Over the years they’ve done just that, starting off with a café on the site which gave way to the demand for their wedding functions, but now the time has come to call it quits. Five years ago, Irene was diagnosed with cancer, and despite being told she only had 18 months to two years to live, she and Tony have continued to run the popular venue which, on average, hosts 25 - 30 weddings a year. “It’s too much now, and I really want to spend some time with my family,” said Irene. She said while the business had provided her and Tony with a wonderful lifestyle over the years, the time had come to move on. “We’ve seen plenty of success, and managed to stay afloat during the economic downturn, and ideally would love to stay on and realise even more of our visions, but Irene’s health must come first,” Tony said.
Tony and Irene farewell the area Irene said some of their fondest memories over the years have been keeping in touch with some of the couples who have been married there, and come back every year to celebrate anniversaries, and share photos and stories of their children. “We’ve made some wonderful friends and received so much support from the local community over the years, and we’ll certainly miss both the lifestyle and the area,” Irene said. Tony said they have been fortunate to have excellent staff, who have helped carry the load at times when Irene’s health deteriorated. “We’ve had great staff and great relationships with other local businesses, such as Oskar and Sue from Pasta D’Vine, who has been catering for us for the past three years. While it will be sad to bid them all farewell, it will also be a relief to know we can concentrate solely on our future,” Tony said. Irene said they are pleased that the new owners will continue running the business as a wedding function centre / bed and breakfast. “No doubt they will add some ideas of their own, and we wish them every success and hope they enjoy the experience as much as we have.”

The magic roundabout As reported in Glasshouse Country News, the roundabout at the corner of Kilcoy-Beerwah Road, Roberts Road and Simpson Street, Beerwah had been in a disgraceful condition for many months. However, last Tuesday morning the roundabout was suddenly transformed from being an ugly duckling to now being an okay looking swan – although one that is still rather tired, forlorn and in desperate need of a makeover. Was it magic? Readers report seeing a band of brightly coloured ‘beings’ frantically at work in the early hours of that morning. Were they good fairies and garden gnomes collaborating to make our wishes come true? A quick check with the local Councillor, Rick Baberowski and the truth emerged. According to Cr Baberowski, it wasn’t the
By Greg Brown
Easter Bunny on a slasher; it was approximately 12 Council workers in their yellow and orange safety shirts, making short work of the messy roundabout. “Main Roads are still dragging their feet with formalising the maintenance arrangements. | So instead of waiting, we decided to do the clean-up of the area," he said.
It is hoped that Main Roads will pay for the landscaping to be reestablished to a better standard than it is currently, before being handed over to Council.
“I took the view that the community expectation for a tidy town entrance overrides the unallocated cost in the short-term. “But I will expect that a permanent fix be organised between Main Roads and Council before the area gets as bad as it was before,” said Cr Baberowski.
Along with the roundabout manicure, Council have also been fixing the wooden bench seats attached to the planter boxes along the Beerwah shop-fronts in Simpson Street, and replanted the planter boxes in Cribb Street, Landsborough with attractive, yet robust, clumping palms.

World's Greatest Shave
Last Saturday morning as the reflected heat was pouring off the bitumen in the car park at the Glass House Mountains Shopping Centre, all eyes were glued on those with the power (the ones with the clippers in their hands) as they lopped locks to raise funds for ‘World’s Greatest Shave’. The gorgeous Jayme Lee had her hairdresser auntie Di Burns come up from Bribie Island for the big event – and Sandra from Follow Me Hair Fashions joined her to make some dramatic changes to the brave locals. There was plenty of care taken with Jayme Lee’s off cuts, which will be donated to the Cancer Council for the making of a wig. Alan Koschel of the Glass House Mountains Newsagency agreed to support Jayme Lee if she could raise $5,000 – so he had to stick to his word and have the clippers transform his not so flowing locks. Glasshouse Mountains Tavern regular Peter Anderton was supported by the tavern go the shave and to take off his tough looking beard. Bob Malcolm went clean faced, losing his moustache after 41 years. Michael Topher from Matilda Fruit Barn responded to the encouragement by Graham Fraser of Eagle Boys to lose his locks. On Friday night there was plenty of support for ‘World’s Greatest Shave’ at Club Glass House and Leo Petrie sported a very stylish do as a result of some fabulous clipper work and a dash of colour.

Funding boost for Beerwah Beerwah residents will soon benefit from a new $1.3 million shared path along the eastern side of Simpson Street, past Beerwah Railway Station.
YOUR LOCAL FOOT & ANKLE CLINIC
Member for Caloundra Mark McArdle said the funding was part of the State Government's commitment to delivering better cycling infrastructure and planning. This funding will help fill the gaps on south east Queensland’s principal cycle network,” Mr McArdle said. “Sunshine Coast Regional Council was awarded a $660,000 State Government grant, through the latest round of Cycle Network Local Government Grants, to deliver a 650-metre shared path from Kilcoy-Beerwah Road to Pine Camp Road.’’ The project is one of 11 to receive a 50 per cent grant through the latest round of Cycle Network Local Government Grants, which awarded a total of
$6 million to three south east Queensland councils for the delivery of 10km of cycling facilities. Division 1 Councillor Rick Baberowski said the funding announcement was a fantastic outcome for locals that acknowledges the great work council has been doing on strategically planning the pathway network around Beerwah. “Council’s community engagement for the Beerwah Place + program identified that a priority for locals was to improve the pathway network,” Cr Baberowski said. “Council has developed a strategic Master Plan for Beerwah as part of Place + and that’s made partnering with the State Government a possibility as we have the planning in place and community support for increasing the pathway network. “Council is committed to spending an amount in excess of $2.2 million on the implementation of the Place + Master Plan.”
Last year petitions were lodged in Parliament regarding the intesection at Peachester Road and Old Gympie Road at Beerwah. Mr McArdle said the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has advised that an additional Give Way sign on the northern approach to the intersection will be installed in the coming months. “TMR have contacted the Sunshine Coast Council to remove the 40km/h school zone speed sign that was incorrectly installed on Old Gympie Road,” Mr McArdle said. “TMR has nominated Peachester Road and Old Gympie Road to be considered for upgrade and
construction of traffic signals under the Safer Roads Sooner program. I expect to find out the outcome of the submission by mid-2013.” Mr McArdle said a risk assessment was also undertaken at the Beerwah State Primary School crossing to determine the eligibility for supervision under the school crossing supervisor scheme. “Safety concerns with the crossing location have been identified by the department and of particular concern was the issue of pedestrians crossing at the driveway to the teachers’ car park,” Mr McArdle said. “The department and Council will now work together to relocate the crossing.”

Grants help koalas
New GCNews contributor
The Newman Government recently announced funding of almost $190,000 for two Sunshine Coast organisations involved in koala rescue and rehabilitation. Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell MP said that Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors Worldwide Pty Ltd and Sunshine Coast Koala Wildlife Rescue had been awarded funding in this year’s Koala Rescue and Rehabilitation Grants. “Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors Worldwide Pty Ltd will receive funding of $182,020 to establish a eucalypt plantation and purchase rescue equipment. “The funding will be used to equip trained members of their rescue unit with the necessary koala rescue equipment and train rescuers in tree climbing. “This will be complemented by establishing a eucalypt plantation on 10 hectares, ensuring a long-term, reliable source of fodder for koalas being rehabilitated. The funding for the Wildlife Warriors will be spread over four years and as such Australia Zoo will not be eligible for any future rounds of funding under this program. “Sunshine Coast Koala Wildlife Rescue will receive funding of $7,500 to equip tree climber rescuers with equipment and other rescue gear and to equip new volunteers with rescue gear. “This funding will greatly enhance the groups’ ability to rescue koalas now and into the future,” Mr Powell said. After advising readers last week of the sad passing of Renee Badger, our long time Stars guide, we are pleased to advise that Edgar J Winter will now be taking on the role, providing the stars from this week. Edgar began his journey several years ago and the stars have played a major role in his life. For 22 years he has put his trust into these stars. He started studying astrology and witnessed many accounts of ‘energy’ feedback from these signs. In Edgar’s words, the stars have taken him on an incredible journey and Edgar has been helping guide and assist people through his revelling of their universal plans as a clairvoyant astrologer. He has been involved in many readings and has been inspiring clients to make positive steps forward in their lives. These days Edgar is referred as an astrologer and a ‘Relocation’ expert, he writes for a number of newspapers and also sends taped readings to clients all over the world. We are pleased to welcome Edgar to our pages and hope that you enjoy his stars.

Rotarians from the Pacific Islands visit Australia Zoo Local Rotarians, George MacKenzie and Trevor Taylor, from the Glasshouse Mountains Rotary Club, recently showed our famous Australia Zoo to all the Presidents Elect from Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands. These Rotarians from overseas are here to attend training to assist them to lead their Clubs in 2013/14 and also to attend the District Conference to be held at Twin Waters. District 9600 includes all the local Rotary Clubs, and also includes nine Clubs in PNG, two in the Solomons, and one in Nauru. The local Clubs here have an excellent relationship with the people and the Clubs in these sister countries, quite a lot of project teams go from here to work in the villages, schools, and medical clinics there. Trevor Taylor, Glass House Mountains; Janet McBride, Honiara, Solomon Islands; Bustin Joseph, Madang, PNG; Matthias Amolo, Gizo, Solomon Islands; Kerrie Kennedy, Gizo, Solomon Islands; Hubert Kikia, Boroko, PNG; George MacKenzie, Glass House Mountains; Alu Stephensen, Kokopo, PNG being introduced to a big, beautiful snake at Australia Zoo!
Anyone who has not travelled to these countries, which are so close to us, would not realise how much need there is. They have some schools without clean fresh drinking water for their children, libraries without books, classes without desks or chairs, and medical centres without drugs and bandages to help those who might need it. “The people there are keen to get involved, and are very capable people, they just lack money. We do not realise how lucky we are to live here in this country, and how close we are to such a different way of life,” said Trevor.

Community News Debutantes of 1953
2013 Glasshouse Country Debutante Ball
2012 was another great year for the Glasshouse Country Debutante ball, with 27 debutantes and their partners participating in a most enjoyable and memorable event. The planning process has started again for a new year with the 2013 Deb Ball pencilled in for Saturday, September 7 at the Beerwah Community Hall. We are holding our Information Night on Wednesday, May 1, starting at 7.00pm. This will be followed by Registration Night on Wednesday, May 15 also starting at 7.00pm. Both events are held at the Annex of the Mary MacKillop Centre, Peachester Road, Beerwah. Our Facebook page continues to provide an efficient way of sharing information and providing ready access for the participating teenagers and their parents. This page is at present being updated with details for the 2013 ball. 2012 Debutante Emily McNulty and her partner Bailey Neumann
Back row – Glenys Myers, Jill Sargent, Isobel Preston, Phillipa Halstead, Joyce Jeffries, Edith Winterhoff Middle row – Lottie Winterhoff, Margaret Laboo, Joan Farmer, Peggy Halipt, Daphne Preston Front row – Dale Reeves and Doris Page At the beginning of the month we printed this gorgeous Debutante Ball photo and asked if anyone knew when it was taken and who the young ladies were in the photo. Not surprisingly we had many responses – and quickly discovered it was taken at the Glasshouse School of arts Deb Ball in 1953. It was interesting to note that quite a few of the Debutantes or their families still live locally.
Locally owned & operated
Quota International Maleny will again be hosting its annual debutante ball on Saturday, July 27 at the Maleny Showgrounds Pavilion. Quota is looking for young ladies who would like to make their debut. If you are interested in participating as a debutante, please contact Karen on 5494 3677. Cut-off date for registrations will be May 21. The first rehearsal will be held on Monday, June 3, from 6.30pom to 8.30pm. We need to have 12 or more debs this year for the event to go ahead, so get out there and talk to other girls who would like to be involved as well. We would hate to have to cancel debutante ball due to lack of participants.

It is estimated that approximately 85% of the population will experience low back pain at some stage of their lives. Despite its prevalence, it is by no means normal to experience any level of pain on a regular basis.

The normal state of the human body is vibrant, healthy, and pain-free. If you are not feeling this way, something is pushing your body away from normal. We are all well aware that diet and exercise are key factors in keeping our bodies feeling great.

What most people don’t know about is Spinal Subluxation, a term chiropractors use to describe dysfunctional vertebrae in the spine. This is a very common condition that pushes the body away from functioning normally and feeling great. Subluxations can be caused by old or new injuries, but most often are caused by repetitive stresses of everyday life. Low back and pelvic subluxations can also lead to further symptoms, such as hip and knee pain, or digestive troubles.

Glasshouse Country Senior Citizens Club Contributed by Ian McCarron Congratulations once again to our Senior Club members, Mr and Mrs George and Heather Smith for being awarded their Life Membership badges at our last monthly meeting. Heather held the provedore position for many years, spent countless hours out in the kitchen and has done a lot of cooking for the stall. George held the president, vice president and junior vice president positions. He was the music convenor, tour director, sang and told jokes and funny stories in the entertaining group. We can all remember the joke about you giving the cat the pill George. From us all, Dorothy Forster (far left) and Dot Harrison (far right) with Heather and George Smith who were awarded Life Membership congratulations and well done!
Ten minutes a day to literacy For some years our Beerwah Librarians have been presenting Baby Rhyme Time to support early Literacy in our community on Mondays at 10.30am. During these weekly sessions the presenters are modelling techniques and sharing with parents and carers valuable skills and experience which will become part of their daily interactions with their children.
Back row: Margaret Thompson (FOBL), Bob McLean (Rotary), Ross Horne (Rotary). Middle Row: Melissa and Oscar, Lauren and Emasyn. On the floor: Kim and Farrah, Sherri and Summer
This is a fun interactive program for babies from birth to 12 months and their carers. While the major focus is on Early Literacy Development, the benefits are enormous as the babies are learning through enjoyable activities as they play with language in a shared environment which encourages bonding with baby, calming baby and allowing baby to respond to the sights, sounds and activities around them. The Newcastle Region’s Library’s popular ‘Ten Minutes a Day’ campaign was launched in 2002. The program was designed to educate parents and carers about the importance of reading aloud to children at an early age. Since the launch of the campaign, thousands of schools, libraries and community organisations throughout Australia have passed on the ‘Ten Minutes a Day’ message. The Ten Minutes a Day concept and program was made possible by a donation from Newcastle Permanent Building Society’s Charitable Foundation. Sunshine Coast Libraries launched this program in 2013 without any major sponsorship. At Beerwah Library with the support of the Beerwah Friends of the Library and funding from the rotary club of Glasshouse Mountains the library staff have been able to purchase numerous resources like books (multiple copies for each mum and bub), egg shakers, scarves, parachute, puppets and balls. Parents have commented that the new resources are fantastic. Here are some of our regulars who have even braved the storms and floods of the last couple of months to regularly attend baby rhyme time.
Lions dedication recognised Lions Ron Boyle and John Cruikshank, who have each notched up 45 years of community service to Lions, recently received a Chevron award for their efforts. The awards were presented by the District Governor Kaye Smith, at their March dinner meeting. The Beerwah Lions Club was pleased to have District Governor Kaye at their recent meeting and in her address she spoke of the difference that Lions can make in a world filled with suffering and indifference. Lions take time to enquire at schools, libraries and youth groups to see if there is a need to partner with them, help young people with special needs to learn to read, and work to help to counteract bullying by funding courses to better equip teachers overcome the problem. This is what we do, we care and we serve, she said. The club was also pleased to welcome new member Michael Urquhart and his wife Michelle www.gcnews.com.au
to its ranks, with District Governor Kaye performing the induction service. The club's new president Rita Sanderson took the chair for the first time, receiving a round of applause at the end of the night for her excellent conduct of the meeting.
Glasshouse Muso’s club
Contributed by Dr Michael Whiticker The Musos Club was held at the Sports Club last Thursday and welcomed the work of two artists new to our flock. Ann Leung who like myself has taken part in one of the Loose Acoustic Winterbreak courses http://www.looseacoustic. com.au, came up from Brisbane and gave us four original songs which made an immediate impact. Ann has a well set up Maton guitar and she uses alternate tunings to great affect accompanying her gentle voice with independent bass and melodic lines which she weaves antiphonally around her vocal line. Later in her set she gave us a country song - accompanied in a more traditional style, which she wrote in response to a dare at the Brymaroo Rodeo. Ann is an artist worth keeping an ear out for as is Karen Law who performed for us accompanied by Tommy Leonard. Tommy is the sort of finger style guitarist and harmonising vocalist anyone would be happy to have in their act and working with the palette offered by Karen’s fine songs, Tommy was in blistering form. He later performed the most frenetic version of ‘Sultans of Swing’ I have ever heard and took our regular backing band - this week going under the moniker merk ‘n stein, along with him. Our ‘good ole boys’ later teamed up with Karen for few covers. We do hope she will make the Musos an on-going part of her performance schedule! Other performers on the night were either regulars or, like Glenn Major, performers who we see regularly and always encourage. Andrew Bilby is someone who seems to grow in stature each time we hear him and he gave us possibly his most impressive number yet, again accompanied by Adrien, Doug and Paul. Andrew suffers from an intellectual disability but is one of the sweetest young men you could imagine. He is certainly a credit to his devoted father Clive! I have never doubted the power of music to heal, to empower and to fill with joy. And Andrew is a wonderful example of that.

Big tick for local Pacific Students
Contributed By Tara Cooper High achievers and former Pacific Lutheran College students Bryden Page and Keegan Becker are the ideal 17-year-old role models. The local students from Elimbah and Glass House have continued to achieve well as they have commenced their tertiary study. Bryden received an OP 1 last year and Bryden Page Keegan Becker recently commenced a four year Engineering Degree (with an extended major in mechatronics) at the University of Queensland. Keegan received an OP 6 and was awarded the Faculty of Engineering and Surveying Deans Scholarship, worth $5,000, from the University of Southern Queensland, where he currently studies via correspondence. Keegan’s scholarship was based on his extra-curricular activities at school. These included being College Vice-Captain and Queensland representative and winner at last year’s national futsal titles, held at the Australian Institute of Sport. Keegan also represented the Sunshine Coast at the state titles for touch football and played for Brisbane in the Rebel Sport Junior Premier league. He’s only three weeks into his Engineering and Surveying degree, but this young go-getter has already gained employment as an assistant surveyor at a mine site in Chinchilla. Three students (seven per cent) from Pacific Lutheran College received OP 1’s last year, 11 students (25 per cent) gained between OP 2 and OP 5 and 35 students (81 per cent) gained between OP 6 and OP 15.

Landsborough State School Camp Written by: Eli Budd and Zac McGrade Landsborough State School Captains On Wednesday, March 6, the Landsborough State School students in Years 5, 6, and 7 excitedly boarded a bus going to Maranartha Camp at Yandina. As they arrived at Maranartha, everyone energetically exited the bus ready for three days of action-packed adventure. Some of the camp activities included amazing mid-ropes, exciting abseiling, thrilling archery, possum pull and much more. The students had loads of fun going across extremely high rope courses, climbing down abseiling towers and flying through the air. On the final night at Maranartha they held a talent quest. The acts consisted of singing, dancing and skits. Overall the teachers and students had an amazing time at camp. The experience was challenging, rewarding, educational and most importantly fun!
School sleepovers and boiling billies
The second last week of term one is full of activity at Glasshouse Country Christian College. Year 7 has gone to Canberra, Year’s 9 and 11 are roughing it at survival camps, the Year 12’s are immersed in cultural pursuits and the Year 8’s are just having some zany fun back home. GCCC’s Year 8 students enjoyed a week of sleepovers, campfires and boiling billies, visits to Brisbane Southbank venues, mountain climbing, bush walking and fun games that were educational and challenging. Girls and boys were split up for their adventures and took it in turns to complete the excursions and activities. Making education fun can be challenging, but the combined brain power of Year 8 Coordinator Anita Newell and Middle School teachers resulted in some fun and messy teamwork games. Tossing lollies blind folded, keeping a tissue from touching the ground and making newspaper outfits for the Beerwah Fashion scene had all the students working in teams to produce the best outcome. The students learned problem solving skills, teamwork and how to think outside the box.

Doing Business Worried about your child’s posture?
Next time your child is watching TV, sitting at their computer, eating dinner or carrying their school bag, take a minute to observe their posture. It’s highly likely they’ll either be slouching or leaning to one side – or both! It’s well known that over-use of technology and lack of exercise can lead to obesity, but its effect on posture tends to be overlooked. Bad posture whilst sitting or standing can cause headaches, back pain or lack of concentration, and can often lead to longterm health issues. Beerwah Active Physio is launching an exciting new six week Pilates-based program aimed at young people from eight to 14 years who have bad posture from spending too much time on computers, playing games or texting on mobile phones, or carrying heavy school bags. Our newest team member, Emma Bruns is a qualified Accredited Exercise Physiologist who brings with her a wealth of knowledge in all areas of exercise for both rehabilitation and fitness. Emma is keen to help young people correct their posture as this benefits them both physically and mentally. “Studies have shown that children who ‘walk tall’ are more confident, calmer and relaxed, and more able to cope with school and stress,” Emma says. Our six week program focuses on young people having fun while using Pilates-based exercises to strengthen and stretch the key muscle groups for good posture. The program starts on Monday, April 22 and costs $100.00 for the six weeks (claimable under your health fund). Class times are 4.00pm (eight - 11years) and 4.30pm (12 – 14 years. So, if you’re sick of telling your kids to ‘sit up straight!’ give us a call on 5494 0060 and book them in!

The recent opening of another Hungry Jack’s store means that there are now two at the Wild Horse Mountain Shell petrol stations – one north-bound and one south-bound. Combined, they have created over 75 new jobs for the local community. Hungry Jack’s National Marketing Manager, Paul Tredinnick, said that he is encouraged by the commitment of each of their new crew members. “Our local management team were so impressed, they’ve already promoted two of our new staff members to Assistant Managers,” he said. “The new team looks forward to becoming part of the local community. The Glasshouse North store is open Monday to Thursday 6.00am until 10.00pm, 24 hours Friday and Saturday, and until 10.00pm on Sunday. Hungry Jack’s Glasshouse South is open 24 hours, seven days a week. On Thursday this week Goona Nair Rust will be closing the door on her fashion business Chic Effects for the last time. While Goona knows the time is right to close down the business, she is going to miss all of her loyal customers. After being part of the shopping precinct in Simpson Street in Beerwah now for six years she said many of her customers have become friends. All of us at GCNews have enjoyed working with Goona and wish her well in the future. Tim and Paula Watson, previous owners of the Landsborough IGA, have taken a shine to the baking business and are now the proud owners of the iconic Buck’s Bakery. Tim says that they love being part of the community. “We had the last 12.5 years in the IGA and now it’s going full steam ahead with Ashley and Cassandra Grigor at the helm. We intend to revamp the layout and the exterior and include a lovely big deck for our customers to enjoy,” he said. These changes will take time, but with all going according to plan, they hope to see the entire renovation finished by Christmas. “We also hope to keep trading and cause as little inconvenience to our customers as possible. Thank you to all that have welcomed us back and we’d love to catch up with those we haven’t seen for a while.” www.gcnews.com.au

Re: Bat hysteria
I was most interested to read the article on the Bat Hysteria. I live in Landsborough and we have bats in the surrounding trees, close to home, they are disgusting, smelly, noisy creatures that in my opinion DO need to be culled in suburban areas. We have children living all around the area and I have noticed lately that the bats are sitting lower in the trees. They are noisy during the day as well as in the evening. If the wind is in the wrong direction they smell foul and we cannot have our windows open. We have enough trees and open spaces in less suburban areas and I would plead with the minister for the environment to look at relocating the bats from our area. It may be said that they are safe in suburban areas and that maybe so, but it’s all the other effects that we have to endure from them. Maybe the conservationists would care to relocate the bats to a tree near their home! Please. S Squire Landsborough
Thank you
Emily Madden and her family would like to sincerely thank the Glass House Craft Group for their generous donation of two beautiful raffle prizes. Special thanks to Alison McNeilly for donating a lovely quilt and also to Gail Hansen for her contribution towards the quilt and also for her donation of a beautifully embroidered cushion. Thank you also to Australia Zoo for donating a signed photo and a family pass for four people! If you would like to purchase raffle tickets, they will be available outside Glass House IGA on Saturday, March 30, or you can call Jenny on 5494 0010 or 0407 118 361 or Jill on 0418 946 252 or 5493 0663.
When will Steve Irwin Way be improved?
I write in support of the recent articles by Dale West and others about the condition of Steve Irwin Way. Returning home to Glass House along Steve Irwin Way, in poor vision conditions late at night recently, I was near the Zoo, when a vehicle driving North caused a sheet of water to totally cover my car, leaving me blind for a period until the wipers caught up and cleared the screen. Fortunately I was only travelling at about 60km because of the conditions. I’m sure the spot where this occurred was one where the verge is higher than the tarmac. Two years ago I raised this matter with our State Member and his response was “put us in power and I will get some money.” We are still waiting! It would help if we could be given info as to when we can expect to see an improvement in this 19th century track. With this road being used as a main thoroughfare, it’s no wonder that accidents are occurring. Night Owl, Glass House Mountains
Good pride
It’s gratifying to see so many of our fellow locals expressing their despair about the state of Beerwah's landscape and its neglect. There is pride out there! All the more reason for our Sink Beerwah Station Group to further seek support from this same community and ask for help from anyone with experience in road building, large engineering projects etc. Please come to our assistance and help establish the possibility of putting our Beerwah Station underground. We need to know if it can be done. Any support or comments are welcome at sinkbeerwahstation@gmail.com The Sink Beerwah Station Group
Beerwah no long a quiet country town
Again last night a motor bike was stolen from our home on Pinecamp Road at Beerwah. It had a blue petrol tank and red shockies at the back. It was not a complete bike as it was a project for the boys to do. It is an older style bike. (The petrol tank was not connected to the bike; it was just sitting on top.) I’m coming to think that Beerwah is becoming a really bad place to live as it grows in size. We moved here for the quiet and country atmosphere. I’m thinking that I have no choice but to set up cameras outside my house to watch my property which is definitely not something I really want to do as I don’t live in Brisbane. As a community we should be coming together to stop this stealing. Unhappy local Beerwah
Our hinterland disconnection
We can’t believe our current hinterland transport service from Hinterland Connects bus service in Maleny is about to be disconnected due to low patronage and a cost of $100,000.00. My wife and I use this service on a regular basis. Surely in today’s economic figures that amount is merely ‘Job – pocket change’. What has happened to all the transport levy money we have all had to pay? Colin Batch Beerwah

Cyclone Oswald did not discriminate against the residents of Queensland. Whilst many people suffered devastation more than we did, we still had our fair share of rain and cyclonic winds. Losing power for over 55 hours (some residents up to six days) as well as no telephone, no internet, some areas no water, unbearable heat, trees upturned and twisted, and some houses struck by trees. There was also the cost of loss of food, cost of needing a generator, and the cost of disposing of debris. Despite this there was no assistance for 70 year olds, or others. Our claim to the Federal Government was ‘unsuccessful’ because we were in a different area? We have now challenged the Centrelink decision through the Social Security Appeals Tribunal (and next if necessary through the Administrative Appeals Tribunal) this is in spite of Peter Slipper providing as much information to the Attorney General to have certain areas of Fisher declared a disaster area. The Attorney General’s department advised they rely on the State Government when determining classification of an area. Hence Andrew Powell advises that Tim Nicholls had given all the relevant information to the Federal Government. Meanwhile the Federal Government has given over $40 million dollars (that we know of) in aid in the last two months to overseas countries. Money given in aid to affected Australians would stay in Australia and be recouped by the Government in a short time by GST and Taxes. Why should we have to plead for assistance? Keith and Lorraine Mann Glass House Mountains
Glass House vs. Glasshouse
Back in days of telegrams when the cost was per word the then Postmaster Mr Stan Greaves encouraged people to join Glass House together to make one word. K. Parkes Beerwah
How low can you go? By Lea Parkes This was the question the store manager and volunteers at Lifeline at Beerwah were asking when they realised that someone had been into the store and while they were there had stolen the charity tin for donations. While it would seem that nothing would really shock store manager Trudy Hudson she was really disappointed that this has happened – and wanted to suggest to others who have charity tins on their counter that they should be chaining them up to avoid facing the same unwanted behaviour. I have heard of other local shops having experienced the same type of activity, and quite often the shop owners are generously allowing local community members who need to raise funds for life saving medical treatment and the like, when thieves have struck. So I reckon Trudy is right, if you have a donation tin on your counter – make sure it can’t be grabbed. www.gcnews.com.au

Recreation Vehicles There are more and more people on road trips these days and the Sunshine Coast hinterland offers exactly what people are looking for - small towns full of character and charm, surrounded by natural scenery. There is more that we could be doing to make our towns more attractive to travellers and that’s why Cr Jenny McKay and I met with representatives from the Australian Caravan Club. We had productive discussions about the types of facilities Recreation Vehicle (RV) travellers need like waste disposal, drinking water and parking space. And we’ll be taking the information from those discussions back to council so we can start to strategically introduce more RV friendly facilities into the hinterland.
Technology Expo There’s an exciting Technology Expo coming to the Beerwah Library proudly presented by U3A Sunshine Coast Inc. This practical new event will present a showcase of many new and emerging technologies in the world of photography, slide show production, mobile devices, smart TV and much, much more. Division 5 Councillor Sunshine Coast Council M: 0409 450 726 From now until June council has a certain priority to focus on – the budget. Now that we know for certain that de-amalgamation is going ahead the cost implications will be factored in along with an organisational review. I think it’s pretty fair to say that belt tightening will be a key feature of the 2013/14 budget. Flying foxes are on council’s agenda and we have a proposed management plan for populations on council managed land. Of course the main focus is to deal with flying foxes in keeping with relevant legislation in order to protect the three species living in the area. The plan aims to address and manage the concerns of locals experiencing lifestyle impacts associated with living in close proximity to large or problematic flying fox camps on council managed land. I’ll be speaking at the Fear Free Family Fun day that’s coming up on Sunday, April 21. I want to congratulate Palmwoods Woombye Lions Club for drawing attention to the serious issue of domestic violence and family abuse – awareness is the first step on the path to prevention. I’m getting in early for this one so you can keep it in the back of your mind – the great Garage Sale Trail is in October. It’s not only a good opportunity to make a few dollars, it’s a good chance to meet your neighbours and turn it into a community event by planning a whole street garage sale. The options are out there and it’s time to get those ideas rolling. The Australian Government has opened the Volunteer Grants 2013 program. Not-for-profit organisations can apply for volunteer assistance grants of between $1,000 and $5,000. Applications close on April 24, go to www.fahcsia.gov.au for more information. The next Mooloolah breakfast meeting is on Thursday, March 28 at 7.00am at Thunderbirds Café in Mooloolah – see you there. www.gcnews.com.au

After being so overgrown for so long, it's a relief to finally feel the pride of Beerwah go up a notch as its roundabout regains some much needed maintenance. Council has undertaken the clean-up so that Beerwah looks as it should when people arrive into town. I want to be clear that the Department of Main Roads (DTMR) own the roundabout and are responsible for its maintenance. Council has stepped in because DTMR are not maintaining it to community expectations and it appears that they have no intention of doing so in the near future. I am continuing to work with council officers to ensure that this is not a 'one-off' clean up and I will report more on that and a 'precinct approach' in the next couple of weeks.

7 secrets
Trying to resist the aroma of pizza cooking at 7 secrets was all too much to bear, so I gave in and ordered a pizza to enjoy for lunch. I chose a medium Napoletana Pizza, with tomato, cheese, anchovies, olives and oregano, and I added a splash of chilli and feta cheese. I was very pleased to be able to order my pizza on a Gluten Free base, for an extra $4.00. The pizza was divine. It was good quality, handmade, traditional Italian pizza, made with love and passion by Kaylene - absolutely delicious! The coffee is also great quality and you can enjoy it seated with a handmade cake or slice,

Tourism Talks
with Jayne Wilson
Senior Tourism Consultant Glass House Mountains Visitor Information Centre
Volunteers
Volunteers are one of the most valuable assets of any community organisation and the Glass House Mountains Visitor Information Centre is such an organisation that believes in this firmly. These dedicated volunteers are the front line of our service and welcome all visitors and locals with their bright beaming smiles. In 2013 we are honouring many volunteers across the entire Sunshine Coast Region who volunteer their time in one of nine Visitor Information Centres. The Glass House Mountains Visitor Centre is no exception and has six members from our team celebrating 10 yes 10 years of continued volunteering! These
amazing six have spent their past 10 years between the ‘old van’ that service visitors from the Matthew Flinders Park to our newest facility at Rotary Settlers Park. These wonderfully dedicated volunteers have such a passion for what they do and I personally would like to thank them from the bottom of my heart for the magnificent job they continue to do.
Community Recovery
Since the start of the year, communities in the South East Qld have seen some significant weather events. On the February 7 and 8 the Glass House Mountains Visitor Centre hosted a team from the Department of Communities, Disabilities and Child Safety. During these two days, we saw a total of 158 individuals or families from Mooloolah to the local Glasshouse Country area that had been immediately affected by weather events. This team is no longer operating from the Visitor Centre but if you have any enquiries you can contact them on 1800 173 349.
Easter and the School Holidays
Helen Whitfield, Ivon Northage and Lyn Griffiths being congratulated by Cr Rick Baberowski for their 10 years of service.
The Glass House Visitor Centre will be closed on Good Friday, March 29, but open every day over the school holidays. Drop in and speak to the friendly team about ‘things to do’ to keep everyone busy. The centre is open 9.00am to 5.00pm daily, our contact number is 5438 7220. We would like to wish everyone a very Hoppy Easter.
The Glass House Mountains Visitor Information centre is located at Settler's Rotary Park, Reed Street, Glass House Mountains and is open 9.00am – 5.00pm seven days a week.
Favourite Sunshine Coast Places with Cr Rick Baberowski
Rocky Creek Grinding Stones Landsborough
There’s a treasure trove of both natural and cultural heritage that sits just out of town at Rocky Creek on Old Gympie Road (just after the bridge). The 'Grinding Stone' site is a significant physical example of the Sunshine Coast’s cultural heritage. Down on the Landsborough sandstone rocks you can see several elliptical grinding grooves where Aboriginal people used to grind their axes in stark contrast to the linear scars of the Cobb & Co wheel tracks. These and many other aspects to this site help us to imagine and understand how life used to be and particularly the relationship between nature and the Indigenous communities. If you pause and just slowly look around you start to see how even today it’s still possible to see how the natural environment provided useful tools for human use such as, the leaves from sand paper figs that were used for filing, saplings that were used for making spears and resin/gum from trees that provided the material to help construct axes. It’s still a surprisingly idyllic setting despite being
so close to the road and therefore within 25 metres of the modern world. A second and very enticing feature of the spot is the water hole that can be found slightly behind the grinding grooves. It’s a beautiful place for dipping your toes in and keeps relatively cool even on the hottest days. I encourage you to enjoy and appreciate this beautiful and serene setting that has such a tangible connection to history and while there please encourage those with you to be careful and respectful of both the heritage site and the natural flora by keeping to the track area.

Happenings Out and About Fabulous fundraiser for firey cause The Sunshine Girls organised a fabulous fundraising dinner at the Glasshouse Mountains Sports Club last Saturday night – with all funds raised going to the Glass House Mountains and Beerwah Rural Fire Brigades. The ladies on the night definitely brought a touch of glamour to the evening (while the fellas did scrub up very well) so we thought we would focus our shots on the bling, glitz and glamour of the ladies on the night.

Swell Easter holiday break in Caloundra
Enjoy watching surfing then head to Caloundra on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast this Easter for the historic Pa and Ma Bendall Memorial Surfing Contest from March 29 to 31 at Moffat Beach. The event is in its 39th year and is the second longest running surfing contest in Australia behind the Bells Beach Pro in Victoria. Sunshine Coast Destination Ltd Tourism Development Manager Anthony Johnston said the Pa and Ma Bendall Memorial Surfing Contest was a part of surfing folklore. Charles Ben (Pa) Bendall was regarded as the grandad of surfing in Queensland. He and his wife Marjorie (Ma) settled in Caloundra in the 1950s.
A decade of Local Art
The Blackall Range Visual Artists are celebrating 10 years as a group this March with a four day Art Exhibition and Sale over the Easter weekend, and the publishing of a commemorative book of their shared achievements. Coming from across the Hinterland, these local artists got together as a mutual help group to encourage each other in their art, share specialist tutors, exhibit their work and enjoy the stimulation and friendship of fellow artists. Each week they meet to paint at the Mapleton Bowls Club and they have developed a wide range of styles and techniques in the various media of oils, acrylics, pastel and water-colour. Their exhibitions have become a popular community event particularly anticipated by art buyers looking for original paintings at reasonable prices as they exhibit at St Mary’s Church Hall on the Green in Montville with the commissions and donations benefitting the historic hall’s maintenance. This Easter Exhibition is the first major exhibition for 2013 and will be open from Good Friday, March 29 to Monday, April 1 from 10.00am to 4.00pm daily with free admission.

Bonding weekend for mums and teenage daughters Finding time to have some fun and share doesn’t always happen in our day-to-day lives and the team from IFYS have developed a great opportunity for mums (or guardians) and their daughters aged between 12 – 17 years to spend a great weekend to reconnect. This camp has been created for mothers and daughters who are looking to sort out the problems between them and to make changes towards improving their relationship. Cathy Condon of Beerwah and District Youth Community Centre said in a lot of lives mother and daughters go through tough times which can put strain on the relationship between the two. “The fun filled interactive weekend combines talking and workshop activities and will help enhance relationships,” Cathy said. The program on the camp will help you to reveal how you can become more confident in yourself and create a new life with new stronger relationship between you and others. All meals, dormitory accommodation and activities are offered for free however donations towards the costs would be appreciated. As IFYS want to help the mothers and daughters in need of assistance they will choose attendees based on their responses on a simple application form. The weekend kicks off on 7.00pm on Friday, April 19 and continues until 3.00pm on Sunday, April 21 and will be held at QCCC Mapleton (70 Obi Creek Road Mapleton). To find out more or to get an application form please phone Cathy Condon on 5494 0505 or 0407 761 749. www.gcnews.com.au

Great Trees for Glasshouse Country Leopard Tree
Following on from the last ‘legacy tree’ suggestion, is the fabulous Leopard tree. This wonderful tall and spreading tree will brighten up any large space. The mottled bark is stunning, and the yellow sprays of flowers make a wonderful display. Once established, it is very hardy and drought tolerant, and being deciduous, it lets the sun through in winter. This will definitely be a tree that future generations will be glad someone planted for them to enjoy.
NATIVE & EXOTIC PLANTS FINGER LIMES - IN NOW
V is for Verbena
In recent years, thanks to a nudge from my young daughter who loves flowers, I have rediscovered annuals and bedding plants. As well as Petunias and Dianthus, Verbena has become a member of our ‘garden club’. While we are only growing the Garden Verbena, a range of hybrid varieties, there are about 250 species in the genus with annuals, herbaceous perennial and semi woody plants making up the forms. They originate from Europe and North and South America. The Garden Verbena is the most commonly cultivated and stems from the North American species. Small flowers of Verbena plants are borne in clusters and can be found in the full spectrum of blues and purples plus white and pinks and reds. The vivid blooms can be found on the plants in spring, summer or autumn. Most Verbena attracts butterflies. Garden Verbena is low growing, scrambling plants, ideally suited to rockeries and container planting. Try one from the ‘Superbena’ range. I have had one rearing its head in my garden for three years. When it is in full flower you can barely see the leaves. Ensure that these plants are grown in full sun with good air flow. The more sun the plant gets, the more prolific and intense its flowering will be. Damp, shady locations will lead to leggy growth and downy mildew which will weaken and eventually kill the plant. They like well drained soil with a few shovels of compost dug in. Apply a dose of organic fertiliser at planting to promote plant growth. Don't follow up with high nitrogen fertilisers. You will end up with a lot more foliage and fewer flowers. Young plants need to be watered well but as they get older they can last longer without water to the point of being moderately drought tolerant. Propagate commonly from seed though some hybrids and cultivars would need to be propagated by cutting or division. Once the plant has had its first flowering burst in spring, trim it back. This will keep a compact shape and ensure better blooms later in the season. Some varieties have jumped the fence and become weeds. Purple Top (Verbena boraniensis is one of these). It is found growing along roadsides and in areas where the vegetation has been disturbed. It should also be noted that Lemon Verbena, the herb used in cooking and perfumes, while related, is not a true Verbena. However many species of Verbena contain aromatic oils which are extracted for the cosmetic industry. I may be a bit biased as a result of my recent experience with this plant, but I would not hesitate to recommend it as a source of hardy colour in the garden.

BEERWAH (opp. Beerwah Hotel) Second store opening in Gympie
In the rush and blur of modern life, we have a tendency to reduce things to abbreviations and simplify their meanings - the better that we may save time. We are all in a hurry after all! Thus, language becomes txt speak, poll numbers come to mean more than policy in elections, and the grand spectacle of the five day cricket test match is reduced by more overs with each new version of the game. But we digress. First home buyers may be tempted to follow suit and classify home loan products simply www.gcnews.com.au
by the interest rate they come with. This is where a glitch should appear in the system. Home loans are in fact quite complex things and simply paying attention to one aspect of them can mean that potential borrowers could be missing the forest for the trees, so to speak. There can be no denying the importance of your interest rate the decision to opt for a variable or fixed rate and the amount of interest charged over the term of your loan is of central importance in home finance considerations.
That is the case for a first home loan as much as it is for an investment home loan. Yet that is not the whole story. It is just as important to think about how much your monthly repayments will be and the term of your loan, for instance. Also it can pay to consider whether a home loan will be flexible enough to be adjusted to changes in your own personal circumstances in the future. If you get a raise on your salary a few years down the track, you may wish to up your repayments so that
MON - FRI 9.00AM - 5PM SAT 9AM - 1PM
you can pay off your loan sooner. Yet this may not be possible with some loan products, so it is critical to plan for such future needs by finding a flexible mortgage solution. Teresa Harrison Phone 5422 9458 or 0410 648 098

Don’t be a fool, change your smoke alarm battery Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) and Duracell are urging residents to change their smoke alarms on April Fool’s Day, as part of the annual ‘Don’t be a Fool’ campaign. In 2012, the QFRS attended 57 residential fires where smoke alarms failed to operate and alert residents of the impending danger, this equates to more than one fire every week. QFRS Inspector David Sutch said a number of factors contributed to this trend including batteries being removed, alarms being disconnected and incorrectly installed. “Last year, 11 lives were tragically lost in Queensland as a result of house fires and a further 51 the year before,” Mr Sutch said.

“These figures are concerning and imply that residents are not taking the risks of a faulty smoke alarm seriously.” Inspector Sutch said the statistics re-enforced the importance of working smoke alarms in Queensland households and encouraged residents to use the annual ‘Don’t be a Fool’ campaign as an opportunity to protect themselves and their family. “April 1 is an easy date to remember and we encourage all Queenslanders to take preventative actions by changing their smoke alarm batteries for their own safety and the safety of their loved ones,” he said. “It takes less than five minutes to change a smoke alarm battery which is time well spent when it could result in a potential life being saved.” QFRS recommends the use of photoelectric
Firefighter Mark Wildenberg with a smoke alarm smoke alarms and warns that not changing smoke alarm batteries and failing to maintain smoke alarms can be just as deadly as not having one at all.

Blood, Sweat & Cheers Your guide to sport in Glasshouse Country
Contributed by Jenny Kelly
Every couple of months, the girls invite the boys to have a game with them and Thursday was one of them. This has become a very popular day, with Joan Harvey organising a lovely morning tea of home baked goodies before a Shotgun start at 9.00am. We had 96 players come to compete in a 2 Ball Ambrose for trophies donated by Cath Cherry and Oriel Lyon, Cashmere Cuts and Cedar House Homewares. The winners of the day were Angela and Andrew Roessler, followed by runners up Col Penney and Brenda Jones. Second runners up were Geoff Williamson
Mooloolah Soccer Club results and Barb Whitfield. NTP's went to Barb and Geoff on 2, Glen Watkins and Lorraine Dillon on 5, Gary and Anne Stockwell on 16 and Karen Kemp and Dugald Clark took out the 18th. These days are great fun and we look forward to the next one to be held in May. Our Weekend Pennant team played against Mt Coolum at Peregian Springs and came away with two wins, 2 squares and a loss. After a break for Easter, the team will head to Gympie for their next match. We at Beerwah Ladies Golf hope that you all stay safe over the Easter break and we look forward to seeing you on the course to walk off those yummy chocolate eggs.

Landsborough Tennis Club Contributed by Jill Kirchheiner
Friday Night Tennis – Matches have been underway for a few weeks now and it has been a battle with the weather to get the games in. If you would like to play any / or all of these matches through the holidays, organise your match and then contact either Dawn or Katya for your score sheets, balls, and entry to the courts. Dawn can be contacted on 5494 1085 or Katya on 5494 9464. The scores will be adjusted when the score sheets are received. Unfortunately an update of scores will not be in until after Easter, so try and get some of those matches played through the holidays if you can. Club News – The club held their AGM recently and the incoming committee were elected, with the president being Greg Daniel, vice president is Lou Gonano, secretary is Kerry Roach, treasurer is Dawn Wendt, and maintenance officer is Lou Gonano. The position of publicity officer is still open, and if you would like to fill this position please contact the club. The club patron is Iris Tilbury. The Wednesday ladies are well and truly into their competition with mixed results, with a very close one against Witta last Wednesday when they lost by one game. The team of Anne, Diane, Jenie and Melanie gave it their best shot and look forward to their next match. Ladies social tennis is on Tuesday mornings from 8.00am to approximately 12.00noon. Wednesday night mixed social tennis starts at 7.00pm to approximately 9.00pm and they are looking for some more players for the Wednesday night social tennis. They would welcome any new players, beginners or experienced, for either of the above. If you would like more information about the club or being a member of the club, or you would like to know more about any of the tennis competitions, the Ladies Tuesday tennis, Wednesday night tennis or are interested in receiving coaching, these details can be obtained by contacting Dawn on 5494 1085. Court hire during the daytime can be done through the Landsborough IGA and for night hire please contact Dawn.
Hinterland BMX Come and Try Day Contributed by Vicki Beutel
Hinterland BMX had our annual National BMX Come and Try Day on February 24. It was a great day with about 50 new riders coming along to learn new skills. These enabled them to negotiate a BMX track safely, to maneuver their bikes on different parts of the track and to have a go on the start hill (with help from our coaches and the wonderful mums and dads). Our track was certainly a busy one and the riders were having a ball. The day finished with a free sausage sizzle with our own club members doing a demonstration of BMX skills on the track. We have had a great response from the day with lots of riders signing up. It is not too late to sign up, we have a four month $40.00 membership that entitles the rider to come along to our coached training sessions every Monday and also to come along and test their skills on selected Friday night racing. We will have a break over Easter and the school holidays and resume back on April 15. Our Annual Open Race Day for all licensed riders is on April 20, with racing commencing at 2.00pm with over 200+ riders competing in ages from five years to 65 years. Everyone is welcome to come and see BMX first hand and discover why BMX is one of the fastest growing sports. After a tiring day, a commuter settled down in her seat and closed her eyes. As the train rolled out of the station, the guy sitting next to her pulled out his mobile phone and started talking in a loud voice: "Hi sweetheart. It's Eric. I'm on the train. Yes, I know it's the six thirty and not the four thirty, but I had a long meeting. No, honey, not with that blonde from the accounts office. With the boss. No sweetheart, you're the only one in
my life. Yes, I'm sure, cross my heart." Ten minutes later, he was still talking loudly, when the young woman sitting next to him had had enough and leaned over and said into the phone, "Eric, turn that phone off and come back to bed." Eric doesn't use his cell phone in public any longer. Hugh Jones, Landsborough

Week beginning 27/03/13
with Edgar J. Winter - www.astroclairvoyant.com ARIES March 21 – April 20 This full Moon week requires a realistic look at your relationships. That full Moon staring at you from above is in the sign of Libra and that, of course is opposite your star sign. Question is ‘what are you willing to pay for staying with a partner?’ Is the passionate energy just to be free? TAURUS April 21 – May 21 Unexpected work developments require a fast response. The Libran full Moon is giving you a chance to try new methods. Although there are chances to review some of the decisions made during March, there is a need to watch your thinking which may be inflated / unrealistic. GEMINI May 22 – June 21 The fire and air signs in the heavens above under this full Moon week makes you aware of the needs of others. Your words have wisdom, delivering an important message. Free spirited encounters come from social activities. Money issues with a friend brings control struggles. CANCER June 22 – July 23 This full Moon week brings the energy of Aries and Libra to your professional career. Change comes at breakneck pace since Mercury direct heads towards new grounds. Keep a positive attitude as this full Moon in Libra reminds you to seek conciliation and compromise with family.
LEO July 23 – August 22 With the people-pleasing full Moon in Libra your fire sign, together with Uranus in its fire sign of Aries, it can furnish you with good ideas. However with a full Moon, there are usually some stressful negotiations. After March 28 you may break free of all social expectations, so enjoy. VIRGO August 23 – September 22 This fair minded Libran full Moon energy this week lights up your money zone. You will have the right balance financially that upholds your values. It’s a toss between a need for stability and safe conventions, or one for new stimulations, liberating experiences and fresh starts. LIBRA September 23 – October 22 The full Moon in Libra is in your sector of personality, so someone else may try to grab the lead in relationships if you are too passive. Before this weekend, the Sun / Venus get together with the revitalising planet Uranus and it is your turn again to try again a new physical approach. SCORPIO October 23 – November 22 The signs in the heavens above say that if you have overstepped the mark or can’t handle the load, then you have to balance zeal with reason if you feel pressed to extreme means to get what you want. The Libran full Moon asks you to find a balance between work and private life.
SAGITTARIUS November 23 – December 22 The Libran full Moon this week lights up your friendship sector, so you will want not only romance, but to spend some time at musical comedies. Thrilling Uranus collides with seductive Venus so there are unconventional tastes drawing you towards experimental pleasures. CAPRICORN December 23 – January 19 You are getting a confidence booster from the planets this week. However a Mars challenge to Pluto brings aggressive struggles and control issues from home, perhaps by rebellious kin folk. After the full Moon on March 28 you navigate through their emotional outbursts. AQUARIUS January 20 – February 19 This full Moon puts a light under your urge to travel. There are sudden inspirational changes that do however challenge your finances. Delightful events turn up rather unexpectedly under this full Moon in Libra offering new pleasures and fleeting, but fabulous, excitement. PISCES February 20 – March 20 There is a supportive Mars / Jupiter aspect that helps you launch a financial project with enthusiasm! This harmonious Libran full Moon week is sparked by unpredictable aspects but Jupiter saves the day. A triple conjunction of Venus / Sun / Uranus sets off ‘striking it rich’ possibilities!
