Community News Single touch payroll on the Chamber's agenda
The next Maleny Commerce breakfast on Tuesday, April 9 will be held in conjunction with the Montville Chamber of Commerce and is open to members and non-members. As the Australian Taxation Office will require employers with 19 or fewer employees to start reporting through single touch payroll (STP) from July 1, Maleny Commerce has asked member Bob Jarvis from Trilogy Tax in Maleny to talk during our April breakfast meeting about the implications for local businesses. The meeting will be at The Orangery Maleny starting at 7am for a buffet breakfast and networking. Cost to attend is $22 for chamber members and $27 for non-members. Fundraiser for RSL launched State Member for Caloundra Mark McArdle last week launched a fundraising initiative for the Beerwah and District RSL Sub Branch to construct a new home for members. In October 2017 Mr McArdle met with sub branch officials to discuss the difficulties they faced. Mr McArdle said that at the time it was clear the members had not lost their spirit or enthusiasm for the important work of supporting veterans and their families. “The Beerwah and District RSL has been being doing it tough of recent times but, undeterred by past events, the members have pushed forward. They have now secured a parcel of land on which to build a structure,” Mr McArdle said. “The sub branch is now seeking community support to raise the funds needed to build this new home,” he said. The sub branch will need to raise $30,000 to allow for construction of suitable premises and connection to electricity and water. Mr McArdle said the Beerwah and District RSL Sub Branch was formed just after World War II and had played a significant role in supporting
veterans in the community. “The current members acknowledge the important ground work done by the founding members which included Nev Anning, Cliff Barr, Bill Neil, Bill Swann, Alan Free, Tom Baker-Finch and Jack Barry. Of course, so many more men and women have contributed to the RSL’s proud history,” he said. “Full details of the fundraiser will be released shortly. I am simply asking organisations and people who have enjoyed the comradery of the RSL to acknowledge their wonderful contribution to our system of government and democratic lifestyle and give as much as they can for this very worthy cause. “We cannot allow this proud RSL sub branch to fade and, importantly, your contribution will renew and revitalise the spirit that has so long lived in Beerwah due to its connection with the RSL,” Mr McArdle said.
