Australian Film Festival at Maleny
Plenty of Australian film action
The 24th Australian Film Festival is on this weekend at the Maleny Community Centre from Friday, March 8 to Sunday, March 10.
Hosted by the Maleny Film Society, the festival features a diverse selection of fine offerings including five feature films, award-winning shorts, panel discussions, workshops, free sessions and more.
Festival organiser Andrew Wallace said one of the great aspects of the festival was that it allowed a number of films to be seen and discussed in a short space of time as well as providing an authentic feel for what was going on in the Australian film industry right now. The festival program kicks off on Friday with the official launch party followed by a screening of ‘Jirga’, which was Australia’s submission for the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Picture.
Also screening will be the hilarious short film ‘Your call is important to us’ starring Andy Lee. Saturday’s program features the inspiring documentary ‘Backtrack Boys’ followed by a meet and greet with representatives from the movie.
There will be a free afternoon panel discussion and short film session featuring favourites from the 2018 Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival, which is held in Gympie each October.
On Saturday night special guest speaker and emerging Australian film talent Alena Lodkina will introduce her feature ’Strange Colours’.
On Sunday there will be an early 10am screening of ‘One Less God’ followed by a free film appreciation workshop and the final session of the program will ‘Ladies in Black’ at 2pm.
