Glen Echo Pottery is a fully equipped studio that specializes in high temperature reduction firing with a year-round schedule of daytime and evening classes. Ceramic classes afford a unique opportunity to explore the exciting medium of clay. The process includes forming works by hand or on the potter’s wheel, selecting and applying glazes, and experimenting with firing techniques. Instruction is geared to the level of the individual student and is provided in an environment that is relaxed and informal, yet creatively serious. Our teaching philosophy and friendly atmosphere enable students to express themselves freely at their own pace and become active members of the pottery community. For students who wish to take a wheel class but have never thrown on a potter’s wheel, we offer guided instruction for beginners in our Monday evening and Saturday morning classes. For more information on our full range of classes and how to enroll, please visit the Glen Echo Park website (glenechopark.org) and click on “Classes and Camps”. We also invite you to visit the Glen Echo Pottery Gallery Yurt on the main entry path from the parking lot. The Gallery is open Saturdays and Sundays 11-4pm, April through December and by appointment. For more information about the gallery, exhibits and other special events, visit our website at www.glenechopottery.com or email us at info.glenechopottery@gmail.com.

Open Studio Hours (for enrolled adult students only; we regret we cannot offer open studio to our teen students)

For all adult classes, we offer a generous amount of open informal studio time in the pottery yurts on weekends and between classes. Sign-up for open studio hours is strictly managed through a Glen Echo Pottery on-line system. New students will receive an orientation to the sign-up system during their first week of class.

Additional Fees

For adult classes, tuition does not include clay or tools that may be purchased from the instructor at the first class. Clay Fees: For adult classes, tuition does not include clay that may be purchased from the instructor. For teen classes, clay is included in the tuition. Firing Fees: For adult classes, a firing fee is charged based on the weight of the pieces. For teen classes, the firing fee is included in the tuition cost.
