Week 9- Constructing Environments Journal entry This week during our tutorial we looked again at the case study buildings and the details that we focussed on last week. The task this time was to create a 3D detail drawing where the parts of the detail were extended back at an angle showing the materials in more detail.

Capping is used as a waterproofing solution that is utilised to cap the ends of vertical walls preventing the penetration of water.

Sarking is a type of insulation that is fire resistant. It keeps the interior warm in winter and cool in summer.

Fire rated sealant on backing rod. Negative joint.

100x50 aluminium mullion.

Aluminium glazing adaptor.

Week 9- Constructing Environments Journal entry Weep hole in block work and render. Allows water drainage and ventilation.

Acrylic trowel on render. Coloured render for aesthetic finish.

Block work wall. Concrete bricks create the structural skin of the structure.

Glass roof. In situ concrete floor slab provides the structural footings for the building.

Plasterboard wall lining.

To the left is the original detail from the architectural plans. I found it quite difficult to comprehend how each aspect of the detail links to the next and what each part would look like in the structural context. This made creating a 3D drawing of the detail challenging.
