Variety of Traditional Houses as Design Reference

One of the design ap- proaches used is Attention Restoration Theory. Based on Kaplan’s Atten- tion Restoration Theory, to provide a restorative effect, the natural envi ronment must have an extent (the scope that immerses the user in the pleasures of nature), being away (providing an escape from habitualac- tivities), soft fascination (environmental aspects that capture attention) , and compatibility (openness and appreciation for the natural environment). These aspects are then implemented in the form of a beach resort design thatfocused on the natural beauty of the coast and landscape of the is- lands in Wae Rana Beach

Accessibility to the design emphasizes user extent and spatial experience. Interconnecting ramps are used to enable a universal design for all guests. An area of 3.8 hectares is built with facilities grouped according to its function and privacy. The circulation path also incorporates naturalel elements such as rocks, ponds and vegetations.Additionally, sloping land also gives advantage on the view visibility for each building.

Conceptual Development

The back ofthe building functions as rented co-working and meeting rooms as well as office area. These rooms need to be noise-free,supporting the acivity that held in it.Therefore, denser building enclosure isused to phsycologically prevent people whom have no inquiries to enter the area.

The building has 2 levels, which consist of rented room on both floors. The higher the floor, the quieter the rooms are. Co-working rooms are located on the lower floor, facing the central void decorated with plants and outdoor seatings. While the upper floor consists of meeting rooms that require more privacy in order to gain more productivity. These rooms also face the void with open corridor as the circulation path.

Transitioning from main building to co-working and office area, a human scale open public space decorated in wooden slats results in shadow forming into the concrete surface. The wooden material combines naturally with the water, creating a fresh, walkable riverside. Revitalization of the riverside also creates natural view accessible from the building as well as land boundary with outside of the designated area.
