Nigat 11 Azerbaijan I liked the trip when we went to Longleat, where animals are kept. We saw tigers, lions, penguins and so on. I saw acrobatics, it was unbelievable!

Marcela 14 Brazil It was an incredible experience of improving my English and having fun at the same time. The thing I liked most about the summer course was that every day we had a new and fun activity! Like tea party, disco, Harry Potter party or Zumba. And the best thing was that everybody was friendly, the staff, the teachers and the students.

Ludwig 13 Germany My favourite subject was ICT, we built robots on our own!! It was great!

Mone 16 Japan I went fishing and I caught 3 big fish, they all weighed 9 pounds. They were so heavy and hard to reel in.

It seemed only yesterday that we were welcoming the first arrivals to Sherborne Summer when, all too soon, the last of the departing students jetted out. During the eight weeks between, a whirlwind of activity kept everyone fully occupied and busy.

Those who had been before knew what to expect, of course, and it was great to see the whoops of delight as they met up with international friends from last year, while students coming for their first time soon settled into the routines and navigated the vast array of sports and activities available to fill their days and evenings away from the intensive schedule of lessons that is our Sherborne Summer.

Polina 13 Russia I’ll let you in on a secret, I couldn’t ride horses before, but now I’m really good. I can trot on a horse!

This summer, even more than previously, students emphasised in their departure surveys that they learn a lot and have fun at the same time.

Their teachers are kind and explain things well. The lessons are interesting and well taught, and there is lots of variety with all the different subjects, even though they are really practising and improving their English all the time.

Of course, not only in lessons is fun to be had. In the two big fashion shows, students of all ages walked down the catwalk modelling sportswear, casualwear, formalwear and incredible inventive outfits crafted from big black bin-bags. The Talent Nights showcased performances of magicians, group dances, solo singers, ‘stretchydancing’, some virtual professional piano playing, birdsong, a great version of the ‘Single Ladies’ dance by the senior boys, and, to enthusiastic cheers and whistles, the amazing all-staff dancing rendition to ‘Uptown Funk’!

The final talent show of the season closed with the traditional house tutor performances, deservedly won this year

by Westcott with their excellent Sherborne Airways cabin crew dancinground-the-world routines, though they were run a fairly close second by King’s fully fledged, hilariously acted version of Cinderella .

The hotly contested “Knockout” competitions in July and August have teams overcoming challenges from physical and tactical ball and zorbing contests to mental trials and even a few games that involved getting rather wet.

Such occasions are well-taken opportunities for students to bond with each other in their teams, communicating together and showing their competitive - and clever - sides!

And while the senior boys’ top team recorded a narrow victory of just two points over the senior girls’ A team in July, the girls got their revenge and swept the board in August’s contest.

Well done to everyone involved, including the teachers’ team who put in an excellent effort and came in third and second places overall!

It’s not just students who return to Sherborne Summer. Many of our staff come back year after year, giving us a wealth of experience that enables us to understand the particular needs of our students and give them the best care and stimulation. It is the commitment and enthusiasm of all our staff that make for such memorable experiences.

Of course, most of all, the biggest congratulations go to the students themselves, and we thank them for being so good and for making our summer so great.

It is lovely to hear students say, “We’re like one big family” and as the fun-filled days and action packed weekends rolled through the summer, you could really see why.

Fatma 15 Qatar It was really fascinating getting to meet Chinese, Japanese, and Russian people for the first time. All the people here are really nice.

Julius 16 Germany I did this course to prepare myself for next year when I am going to spend a year in an English college and I think it really helped me by improving my English skills and showing me the English school system which is completely different to ours.

But I had fun too!

Blanca 11 Spain I enjoyed the forensic science class very much. This subject is all about crime, and I think it is fun learning more about this.

Kostadin 16 Bulgaria I learned a lot of new stuff but it didn’t really feel like a school, more like an entertainment centre... so much more interactive, interesting, creative and fun.

Giulio 14 Italy I liked Forensic science a lot. It was like doing some things that are done to solve a crime. In fact we have taken our fingerprints and discovered the pH level of some liquids. I really enjoyed that.

Mirai 15 Japan The summer course in Sherborne was really awesome! I was kind of nervous before I came here but I enjoyed it a lot. There were lots of exciting things and it is hard to decide which was best but the best things I enjoyed were the lessons I received here. My classmates were nice and things we learned were all interesting.

At first I was surprised how the classes went because everyone spoke a lot and said their opinions out loud. In Japan we just sit down quietly and take notes from the blackboard. But as I received lessons I got used to it and became able to speak a lot in classes.

Anastasia 13 Russia Although it was my first time alone in a foreign country, I didn’t feel homesick because the atmosphere here is amazing!

Violeta 15 Paraguay Before coming here, never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that lessons could be fun or that walking to school in the morning would be such a delight.

Fatma 15 Qatar Getting my timetable for the first time, I was so amazed and excited at the range of different subjects we have: drama, cultural studies, history, forensic science and others.

What I want to say is that I didn’t only learn English but a lot about the world we live in too. My stay in Sherborne was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.

Vera 10 Russia I really like swimming and we had a swimming competition.

Our house won first place and I swam backstroke.

Waka 14 Japan I was nervous about food before going to England because there is a big difference between Japanese food and British food. But meals in Sherborne are really delicious and now I’m going to miss British food.

Marie Luise 13 Germany I think my favourite sports were horse riding, rock climbing, sea kayaking and of course archery.

Vera 15 Portugal I went alone so at the beginning of the two weeks I was a bit nervous. Then I started meeting people and joining in conversations and now I don’t want to leave! I’ve become friends with people from cultures I had never thought about!

Caterina 14 Italy I think that the best thing that happened was meeting other people of different nationalities and improving my English by talking with them.

Aleksandra Matchina 15 Russia It was my third time here and I enjoyed it as much as all the previous ones.. Every single moment was perfect. Every day we were doing something new, something interesting.

I really enjoyed walking through those old cute streets. I could feel the pure English spirit there!

Mario 15 Paraguay Last weekend, I played the piano in the talent show and I made a mistake. At that moment, I thought that people would start laughing but instead they gave me a big round of applause and screamed my name. So then I realised that if I hadn’t made that mistake I wouldn’t have known about the great friends I have here.

Louis 14 France My best memory is the first disco. I danced and I think I will remember this moment all my life.
