Adele Roberts of BBC Radio One says of Jazz, ‘She’s fantastic, so talented. We think she’s going to be a huge star.’ This year has already been extremely successful for Jazz both in this country and in the United States; we are confident you will be hearing much more from her in the months and years to come. Catch her while you can at Milton Abbey and book your tickets quickly! 7.30pm, The King’s Room Tickets £7 adults, £5 children

‘THE ROLE OF THE ARTS IN THE CYCLE OF CRIME, PRISON AND RE-OFFENDING’ BY ANGELA FINDLAY Years of working as an artist within the Criminal Justice System in England and Germany have given Angela unique insights into what she sees as the destructive and costly cycle of crime, prisons and re-offending in a story older than theatre itself. In this thought-provoking talk she will outline why our prisons aren’t working and talk about the minds, lives and challenges of offenders. With extraordinary slides of art projects and prisoners’ art, she will demonstrate how, within the process of creating art of any discipline, there are vital opportunities for offenders to confront their crimes and develop the key life skills so essential in leading a positive and productive life. Angela’s talk promises to be moving, informative and very original. 7.15pm, New Barn Theatre – Free admission

SPLENDID PRODUCTIONS PRESENT THE ORESTEIA Splendid Productions present an epic, murderous tale of family, history, vengeance and honour in a story nearly as old as theatre. Condensing Aeschylus’s classic trilogy into an hour, Splendid’s regal cast of three retell the story of King Agamemnon, his queen Clytemnestra, and their children, Iphigenia, Electra and Orestes. A legendary family born to power, but destined to rip itself apart in a bloody cycle of tragedy. In the aftermath of the Trojan War, victorious Agamemnon returns home to find that after ten years of war, the greatest danger lives in his own house. Unforgivable acts demand unforgivable retribution in a world that never forgets and cannot forgive. Splendid’s new creative adaptation explores the place where rage meets justice in an artful, political, physical, musical, entertainingly furious – and furiously entertaining - piece of theatrical magic. 7.15pm, New Barn Theatre – Tickets £8

“HUMAN RIGHTS MONITORING IN THE HOLY LAND” BY MILES GELDARD Miles Geldard, a former Milton Abbey parent, will talk about his experiences as a human rights monitor in Hebron earlier this year. Hebron is one of the most intense areas of the West Bank and tension increased during Miles’ time there when it was announced that the US Embassy would be moving to Jerusalem. Miles will give a short overview of the history of the West Bank, describe the realities of life for ordinary Palestinians as well as talk about some outstanding Israeli peace activists that he came across. Miles was a global investment manager in Europe and Asia for most of his career and now focuses much of his time on conservation and humanitarian activities in Kenya where he is a trustee of “Save The Elephants” and an adviser to “Hand in Hand International”. 7.15pm, New Barn Theatre – Free admission

‘FIND ME’ BY OLWEN WYMARK Olwen Wymark’s play ‘Find Me’ is a disturbing play about mental illness and difference. The play is based on the true story of a girl, called Verity in the play, who was institutionalised for behaviour that her family believed they could not control. First produced in the 1970s, in many ways the play is a historical drama and shows how far we have come in having a better understanding of how to react to and help those with mental and emotional disorders. The play will be directed by Milton Abbey’s Director of Drama, Liz Bemment, and the cast will be made up of fifth and sixth form students. This will be a highly stylised production, highlighting the students’ performance skills throughout as they play many of the different characters. 7.15pm, New Barn Theatre – Free admission

ANNOUSHKA DUCAS MBE ENTREPRENEUR IN RESIDENCE Annoushka Ducas MBE, the co-founder of Links of London and more recently the jewellery brand Annoushka, is Milton Abbey’s Entrepreneur in Residence for 2018/19. Annoushka co-founded Links of London in 1990 with her husband John Ayton. The premise was simple and in many ways ahead of its time: that if women liked jewellery, they might actually want to buy it for themselves, rather than wait to receive it as a gift. The chain expanded rapidly and was sold in 2006. Annoushka then founded her boutique firm Annoushka, selling fine jewellery, mainly for women, featuring 18-carat gold and semi-precious and precious stones. There are two stores in London, one in Hong Kong and a very healthy online business as well. Annoushka will be talking about her experiences of being an entrepreneur and will be looking to instil a real sense of confidence and self-belief into Milton Abbey’s many budding entrepreneurs. 7.15pm, New Barn Theatre – Free admission
