SUMMER 2018
Speech Day
CCF Biennial Inspection Day
The Milton Abbey Combined Cadet Force (CCF) had their Biennial Inspection on Wednesday 2nd May. The inspecting Officers were Captain Chris Cook RN and Colonel Carson, a former Milton Abbey pupil representing Brigade HQ. The Contingent Officers, Senior Cadets and the Deputy Head met the VIPs for lunch in the Prince’s Room. In the afternoon the guests were taken around the School grounds to several stances, to showcase the full range of training the cadets have been conducting. The cadets earned congratulations for their turnout and their help throughout the day and the School gave thanks to all the Officers who ensured the day went so well. Milton Abbey CCF can be proud of a job well done.
Milton Abbey School was bathed in glorious sunshine for its annual end of year Speech Day in June. Parents, pupils, staff, guests and Governors all came together to share and celebrate the successes of the past year and wish our Middle Sixth leavers the very best for the future. The day started on the Abbey Lawn with the prize giving ceremony. Our Chair of Governors, Ian Bromilow, welcomed our guests and paid a fitting tribute to our outgoing Headmaster, Magnus Bashaarat, and his wife Camilla. We were honoured to welcome John Young, MC DL JP and current High Sheriff for Dorset, as our key note speaker this year. John was a Governor of Milton Abbey for over 18 years and gave an uplifting speech praising the pupils, staff and parents and describing Milton Abbey as ‘the leading independent, small, co-educational boarding and day school in the country’. Over 70 prizes were awarded to pupils who have worked hard and demonstrated excellence over the past academic year. As well as the soughtafter academic and subject prizes,
there were awards given for improvement and endeavour and for excellence in sport and drama. The Hodgkinson Trophy for the House that has achieved the most Milton Abbey Awards over the course of the year and the Congo Cup, awarded to the House which achieves the most points at Congregational Singing Practice, both went to Tregonwell. The winner of this year’s House Sport Cup was Athelstan. The celebratory atmosphere of the prize-giving spilled out onto the lawn for the picnics which were followed by the Leavers’ Service in the Abbey and last, but certainly not least, the Leavers’ Ball. Congratulations to all of our prize winners and we wish all of our 2018 leavers happiness and success in whatever their chosen paths may be.
