Supporting Sherborne’s Sporting Future Sport is integral to Sherborne life, as recent leaver Will Caldwell (OS) says: “Sport is massive at Sherborne and sport is a massive part of many boys’ lives.”
Dr Dominic Luckett, pictured below, agrees about the role of sport at the School:
Sport also makes a crucial contribution to the boys’ wellbeing. As Nick Greenstock (OS) says:
“Sport, first and foremost is about having good fun. It’s about making sure you are healthy, and activity is a key part of your well-being and I think competitive, organised sport is the best way for staying healthy.”
“Sherborne is a school where boys are individually talented, but it is also a school where boys bring out the best in teams, and clearly sport is a significant part of this.” “What we now need is a central sports facility considerably more responsive to current needs, not least because every boy gets involved with sport at some level and for a huge majority of the boys it’s a very important part of their lives here.”

As John Pocock (OS), pictured below, Chairman of the Foundation notes:
raising the standard of music so that it is now truly world class. We now have the same ambitions for the calibre of sport and the development of our facilities will be a crucial part of that process.” We have outlined in this brochure how you can contribute and honour your ‘Sherborne legend’ and join ‘The22Club’.
“The idea of the Sports Centre is that we will be able to have Sherborne teams training all year round, rather than just in a particular season. It can have a massive benefit.” In 1976 the School invested in a Sports Centre that many OS will remember. This has proven to be a great help to Sherborne Sport, but we now need something bigger and more flexible to help the boys benefit through all the year groups and levels of sports achievement. As the Headmaster noted in his address at Commemoration: “The new Music School at Sherborne has been instrumental in
Ed Lyons, President, Sherborne Pilgrims: “Throughout Sherborne’s long history, sport has always formed an integral part of the School’s life, giving pupils valuable experience in the art of winning and losing and of participating in a team sport. The building of a centre of sporting excellence is a welcome sign of the School’s continuing commitment to maintain sport as an important part of the curriculum and is fully endorsed by the Sherborne Pilgrims, the sporting arm of the OS, for whose members School sport has been the springboard for their continued enjoyment of sport after leaving.”

Sherborne Legends Over the past forty years there have been members of staff involved in Sherborne Sport who have become known by boys as ‘legends’. This campaign offers you the chance to join a group of OS and parents by financially supporting the naming of a room in the Sports Centre after one of these legends. You can choose who you would like to honour. We have canvassed a number of OS and the most popular legends are pictured below:
