Building a centre of sporting excellence

SHERBORNE FOUNDATION
Supporting Sherborne’s Sporting Future Sport is integral to Sherborne life, as recent leaver Will Caldwell (OS) says: “Sport is massive at Sherborne and sport is a massive part of many boys’ lives.”
Headmaster Dr Dominic Luckett, pictured below, agrees about the role of sport at the School:
Sport also makes a crucial contribution to the boys’ wellbeing. As Nick Greenstock (OS), pictured below says:
“Sport, first and foremost is about having good fun. It’s about making sure you are healthy, and activity is a key part of your well-being and I think competitive, organised sport is the best way for staying healthy.”
“Sherborne is a school where boys are individually talented, but it is also a school where boys bring out the best in teams, and clearly sport is a significant part of this.” “What we now need is a central sports facility considerably more responsive to current needs, not least because every boy gets involved with sport at some level and for a huge majority of the boys it’s a very important part of their lives here.”

new peaks, so the expansion of the sports centre can drive sporting access and achievement.” We have outlined in this brochure how you can contribute and honour your ‘Sherborne Legend’ and join ‘The22Club’. Rob Rydon (OS), President, Sherborne Pilgrims:
“This proposed development will more than double the footprint, including a second larger sports hall, new triple sized high performance and general fitness gyms, two new squash courts and full length indoor cricket nets. This will improve opportunities for all boys and allow elite teams to train year round, bringing significant performance enhancement for all. This will also allow us to expand public access to the sports facilities. Just as the opening of the music school, a project in part enabled thanks to the generosity of OS, helped raise music to
“Throughout Sherborne’s long history, sport has always formed an integral part of the School’s life, giving pupils valuable experience in the art of winning and losing and of participating in a team sport. The building of a centre of sporting excellence is a welcome sign of the School’s continuing commitment to maintain sport as an important part of the curriculum and is fully endorsed by the Sherborne Pilgrims, the sporting arm of the OS, for whose members School sport has been the springboard for their continued enjoyment of sport after leaving.”

Sherborne Legends Over the past forty years there have been members of staff involved in Sherborne Sport who have become known by boys as ‘legends’. This campaign offers you the chance to join a group of OS and parents by financially supporting the naming of a room in the Sports Centre after one of these legends. You can choose who you would like to honour. We have canvassed a number of OS and the most popular legends are pictured below:
